No full textThe craftsmen of Portugal encapsulate a vivid portrait of the urban dynamics of the Middle Ages and ancien régime embodying both urban sensibilities and contemporary social practices. The workers in the manufacturing industries of leather, metal, textiles, and pottery occupied a large part of medieval Coimbra, developed business networks, and fostered important social and economic dynamics. Craftsmen will be examined as holders of capital and both movable and immovable property, as well as usufructuaries of ecclesiastical property in Coimbra, both in the peri-urban ring and in the hinterland. The following questions will be posed: What property did they hold? Where was it located? How did they purchase or inherit it? How did they exploit it? How did they make it profitable? To whom did they transfer it? In answering these questions, the craftsmen of Coimbra and its role in the relationship between city and countryside will be described. Rather than draw definite conclusions, the goal is to achieve a broad base of knowledge that allows a comparison between Coimbra and other cities, where craftsmen played an equally important role.Los artesanos de Portugal encarnan un vívido retrato de la dinámica urbana de la Edad Media y el Antiguo Régimen, tanto en lo que respecta a la sensibilidad urbana como a las prácticas sociales contemporáneas. Los trabajadores de las industrias manufactureras del cuero, del metal, de los textiles y de la cerámica ocuparon gran parte de Coímbra medieval, desarrollaron redes laborales y fomentaron importantes dinámicas sociales y económicas. En este artículo, se examinará a los artesanos como poseedores de capital y de bienes muebles e inmuebles, así como usufructuarios de bienes eclesiásticos en Coímbra, tanto en el anillo periurbano como en el territorio del concejo. Se plantearán las siguientes cuestiones ¿Qué bienes poseían? ¿Dónde estaban situados? ¿Cómo los adquirieron o heredaron? ¿Cómo los explotaban? ¿Cómo los rentabilizaron? ¿A quién se los transferían? Al responder a estas preguntas, se describirá la artesanía de Coímbra y su papel en la relación entre la ciudad y el campo. Más que extraer conclusiones definitivas, el objetivo es lograr una amplia base de conocimientos que permita, en trabajos futuros, comparar Coímbra con otras ciudades en las que los artesanos desempeñaron un papel igualmente importante

No full textThis article focuses on an early fifteenth century trial involving a group of men from the Provençal village of Cucuron, accused of several acts of rebellion and of having torn down the gallows of a local nobleman. Rare documentation of this trial, rich with thirty-four testimonies, offers the opportunity to view how the community nimbly reacted to and organized against perceived injustices while knowledgeably implementing the legal tools available to protect its rights and privileges.Este artículo se centra en un juicio celebrado a principios del siglo XV contra un grupo de hombres del pueblo provenzal de Cucuron, acusados de varios actos de rebelión y de haber derribado la horca de un noble local. Este juicio, rico en treinta y cuatro testimonios, ofrece la oportunidad de sumergirse en este pueblo y de comprender la conciencia de las personas sobre su entorno y jurisdicción. También permite ver cómo reaccionó la comunidad ante lo que percibía como injusto y cómo se organizó para garantizar el respeto de sus derechos y privilegios

Full text linkThis paper focuses on the historical expansion of advertisements in Spanish cities from 1880 to 1936. During this period, outdoor advertising experienced significant growth both quantitatively and qualitatively. The analysis is based on primary sources located and preserved in various local archives, with the aim of explaining how Spanish cities transformed into commercial and advertising spaces. The research findings suggest the significant impact of this form of communication at the time, which contributed to the transformation of the urban environment.Este artículo estudia, con perspectiva histórica, la expansión de los anuncios comerciales en las ciudades españolas entre 1880 y 1936, periodo en el que la publicidad exterior adquirió un desarrollo extraordinario, tanto en términos cuantitativos como cualitativos. El trabajo se basa en el análisis de fuentes documentales primarias conservadas en distintos archivos municipales y su objetivo es contribuir a explicar el proceso de construcción de las ciudades como espacios comerciales y como espacios publicitarios en España. Las conclusiones de la investigación apuntan a la relevancia que adquirió esta forma de comunicación, lo que contribuyó a modificar el paisaje urbano
Prolegómenos para un estudio del universalismo en la Antigüedad: estados universales, religiones universales
Full text linkThe work offers some lines of study on the phenomenon of universalisms in Antiquity, taking as a basis what happened in the Roman Empire with the confrontation between state universalism, advocated by the imperial authorities, and religious universalism, spread by Christianity. From these coordinates, we will propose a methodology and lines of analysis of this phenomenon that can be applied to other states and religions of the ancient world, offering revealing analogies. On the other hand, our conclusion, with respect to the relationship between Rome and Christianity, will be that the universal pretensions of this religion developed in close dependence on the support of the state and the imperial authorities, and that its destiny and future development remained inextricably linked to the evolution and fortune of its «confessional» (and «non-confessional») states. Finally, it should be noted that the study includes reflections on this same subject on other states of antiquity and on their parallels with later historical periods.El trabajo ofrece unas líneas de estudio sobre el fenómeno de los universalismos en la Antigüedad, tomando como base lo que acontece en el Imperio romano con la confrontación entre el universalismo de estado, que propugnan las autoridades imperiales, y el universalismo religioso, difundido por el cristianismo. Desde estas coordenadas, se planteará una metodología y líneas de análisis de este fenómeno que pueden ser aplicadas a otros estados y religiones del mundo antiguo, ofreciendo reveladoras analogías. Por otro lado, nuestra conclusión, con respecto a la relación entre Roma y el cristianismo, será que las pretensiones universales de esta religión se desarrollaron en estrecha dependencia con el respaldo del estado y las autoridades imperiales, y que su destino y devenir futuro siguió quedando indisolublemente ligado a la evolución y fortuna de sus estados «confesionales» (y de los «no confesionales»). Finalmente, cabe destacar que en el estudio se incluyen reflexiones de este mismo tema sobre otros estados de la Antigüedad y sobre sus paralelismos con las etapas históricas posteriores
