    Integrating Okapi BM25 and Jaccard Algorithms in Thesis Search Engine

    The integration of technology into society has brought transformative changes, enhancing efficiency and accessibility across diverse domains. In the academic realm, the role of documents, particularly in versatile soft copy formats, is pivotal. This article introduces a groundbreaking Thesis Search Engine developed in response to challenges faced by the existing thesis document repository at the College of Computer Studies. Focused on Information Technology theses, the innovative tool leverages advanced algorithms like Okapi BM25 and Jaccard to systematically organize and manage documents. The study\u27s objectives include designing search engine modules, integrating these algorithms to uncover trends and similarities in content and providing insights into the evolution of research themes. Rigorous evaluations assess data relevancy, irrelevancy, and computational efficiency. Findings reveal the efficient use of Okapi BM25 for document ranking, showcasing a user-friendly design. While Jaccard exhibits versatility, its inclination to return all similar documents raises considerations. Computational efficiency tests favor Okapi BM25, establishing its effectiveness in delivering prompt and relevant search results. The study\u27s insights contribute to optimizing the search engine and offer valuable considerations for future developments in Information Technology research, emphasizing the importance of aligning algorithms with research goals and user expectations

    NLP-Based Decision Support System for PUV Management: Enhancing Services Through Passenger Feedback Analysis

    This paper presents the development and evaluation of an NLP-Based Decision Support System for Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) Management, focusing on enhancing services through passenger feedback analysis. The study addresses the need for improved public transportation quality in the Philippines, where PUVs play a vital role in daily commuting. The proposed system aims to digitize the passenger feedback process and utilize Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques to provide decision support for PUV operators. Methodologically, the study follows a phased approach based on the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). Developed primarily using PHP as the programming language, with Vanilla JS, Bootstrap, and jQuery for backend development and frontend technologies including HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript (ES6) for creating an interactive user interface, the system caters to the needs of its different users. The evaluation process incorporates the ISO 25010 standard for evaluating systems, and with the participation of 43 respondents from the province of Iloilo, the evaluation results revealed an overall mean score of 4.34, indicating an "Excellent" level of system functionality, reliability, portability, usability, performance efficiency, security, compatibility, and maintainability. This implies that PUV operators and management can use the developed system

    Development of Online Counseling Appointment System for Guidance Office of the Office of Student Affairs and Services at Cavite State University-Main

    Every guidance counselor finds remote appointments an important tool for managing appointments since it allows them to establish a list of available time slots, see student information, and make appointments without ever leaving their office. This online counseling appointment application provides students with media-related mental health activities and stress-coping skills that are relevant to the university’s counseling services. Specifically, it has the following features: (a) provides information to the students related to some guidance on how to cope with stress; (b) generates reports to be used by a guidance counselor in providing insight they need to effectively counsel so many students; and (c) helps the guidance counselor extend their counseling service to the student. The descriptive research approach was used with JavaScript as the scripting programming language and MySQL as the database. The prototyping software approach was also used, allowing the researcher to come up with additional ideas rapidly, improve on them quickly, and show users the feature and overall design concept before implementation. The evaluation findings show that the system was "excellent" in both evaluations using modified ISO 9126 software product quality standards, showing that the developed application met all of the required requirements of the software quality test from respondents. The mean and standard deviation were used to tabulate, analyze, and statistically treat the results. Overall, the results and feedback indicate a good impact on the needs of guidance counselors

    Faculty evaluation is critical for improving teaching and student learning. Traditional methods, often reliant on student surveys, lack detail, and miss perspectives. This paper explores a Web-based Faculty Evaluation System (WFES) that leverages collaborative feedback to enhance teaching quality. The proposed WFES goes beyond traditional methods by incorporating multiple sources. It facilitates online student feedback through targeted surveys, self-reflection tools, and potentially integrated peer observation. This enriches the evaluation process with diverse viewpoints. A key benefit is efficient data collection. Online surveys and self-reflection tools reduce administrative burdens and streamline evaluation. Data analysis can identify areas for improvement, inform professional development, and target feedback for faculty. The collaborative nature fosters a culture of continuous improvement. By incorporating student, potentially peer, and self-reflection feedback, the system provides valuable insights for faculty, leading to more informed teaching practices and ultimately benefiting student learning. This research evaluates the implemented WFES using the ISO/IEC 25010 model. A web-based survey gathered feedback from a diverse group. The evaluation yielded promising results, with the WFES achieving a high overall score. However, areas for improvement in resource utilization and user interface design were identified. This research informs future development strategies to refine functionalities, enhance user experience, and ultimately strengthen faculty evaluation effectiveness

    Real-time Water Level Monitoring System in Oriental Mindoro Using Neural Networks

    Oriental Mindoro faced an environmental problem that was caused by the massive rains from the highlands of the city. The lowlands cannot prepare for the upcoming floods with manual prediction and based on instinct. A water monitoring level was setup in three different rivers that end the streams in the city of Oriental Mindoro. This study focuses on the development of a real-time water level monitoring system to help with disaster preparedness in Oriental Mindoro. The dataset collected was from the provincial government, which shows the diversity of data that can be correlated to predict if a flash flood will occur. The dataset was tested using different algorithms such as Gradient Boosted Tree, SVM, Decision Tree, and Neural Networks. The prediction of the Neural Network model’s accuracy is 98.61%, which is 0.6 percentage points higher than the Gradient Boosted Tree and more than the rest of the algorithms

    Data-Driven Water Monitoring System with Descriptive Analytics for Aquaculture Prawn Farms

    This study aimed to develop a data-driven water monitoring system with descriptive analytics for aquaculture prawn farms. This system was designed to automate the monitoring of the water quality of the prawn farm so as to minimize labor and time spent for manually testing the water. Utilizing a rapid prototyping methodology, which is a rapid or quick creation of a prototype or a physical model of a device used in the development of a project, the said monitoring system was evaluated through a comparative analysis between the data gathered manually and the data collected by the monitoring system. To ensure reliability and validity of this monitoring system, it was used various times over several consecutive days. Also, a t-test was used to determine the significant differences between manual and system readings. Findings of the study showed that the designed water monitoring system provided accurate results, and the objectives of the study were met, particularly in terms of integrating a Raspberry Pi 3 microprocessor to automate the system in monitoring the water quality. It was also found out that the use of different sensors to test the water condition in terms of its temperature, pH level, salinity, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity was accurate. Furthermore, the system also met its objective of developing an Android mobile application to monitor the status remotely. With this, it is recommended for prawn farmers to utilize the system (with internet connectivity) for their efficient water quality management and to improve their remote monitoring capabilities

    Teachers’ Job Satisfaction and School Academic Achievement

    The study analyzed the relationship between teachers’ job satisfaction and academic achievement in the elementary schools in Leyte Division, Philippines. The study adopted a descriptive research design. It utilized the job satisfaction survey questionnaire and the National Achievement Test results. The statistical tools included the weighted mean and Pearson correlation coefficient. It was revealed that teachers were satisfied with their job assignments. Whereas, academic achievement showed an average mean percentage score (MPS), indicating an achievement that is moving towards mastery. Moreover, it was disclosed that there was no significant relationship between teachers’ job satisfaction and school academic achievement. To enhance the level of teachers’ job satisfaction and further improve school academic achievement, school administrators may consider strategic initiatives that support teachers’ career development. Thus, it is suggested that school heads should look into the personal and professional well-being of teachers. Future studies, including additional variables such as teachers’ information and communication technology (ICT) literacy skills and ICT facilities, should correlate it with school achievement

    Principals’ Management Skills and School Academic Achievement

    School management skills are seen as the dominant indicating factors for the success of the school, such as academic achievement. This study examines the relationship between management skills and academic achievement in the respondents’ schools in Leyte Division, utilizing a descriptive research design. Questionnaires and documentary analysis were used in gathering the relevant data. The school principals with at least three years of experience were involved in the study. The weighted mean and Pearson correlation coefficient were used in the data analysis. Results revealed that the principals had very high management skills in technical, conceptual, human relations, administrative and supervisory, resource generation and fiscal management, and networking and linkages. Overall, the school principals possess the necessary management skills to govern the school. On the other hand, the academic achievement of the selected schools was categorized as moving towards mastery. This indicates that the schools had their best practices in place. Moreover, findings showed that there is no significant relationship between management skills and school academic achievement. For the continual improvement of quality education, future studies, including additional variables such as schools’ ICT facilities, may be correlated with school achievement

    A Modified Cane for the Blind using Computer Vision

     This study aimed to develop “A Modified Cane for the Blind using Computer Vision” that can detect possible objects and obstacles from the surroundings. A collection of a large image dataset to develop a model has been divided into three (3) datasets with the ratio of 70% for training, 20% for validation, and 10% for testing. The model was used for a mobile application to detect objects from the surroundings. A series of designs for a mobile application and a modified cane were created until the final prototype was made. The ultrasonic sensors, micro-controllers, and other electronic components were connected and tested for effectiveness and accuracy. The final prototype of a modified cane and the mobile application were combined to create a system called “a modified cane for the blind using computer vision.” The effectiveness of the system was evaluated by five (5) IT experts and five (5) blind persons in terms of functional suitability, reliability, performance efficiency, usability, security, compatibility, maintainability, portability, and the overall result with a mean of 4.46. The results of the evaluation show that the overall mean was “Excellent.” This implies that the system is effective and meets ISO 25010 standards in terms of software quality
