    Motorcycle Recognition System Using Convolutional Neural Network

    Vehicle detection is becoming increasingly important for highway management, particularly in Aklan, where motorcycles and tricycles are the predominant modes of transportation. Due to their diverse designs, accurate detection of these vehicles remains challenging. This study addresses this issue by developing a vision-based motorcycle recognition system using a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) implemented in MATLAB. A new high-definition dataset, comprising 34,002 annotated instances from 17,785 motorcycle images and 16,217 tricycle images, was created. The dataset was collected from various locations around Ibajay, Aklan, using regular cameras and smartphones. The images were classified into motorcycles and tricycles and then used to train the CNN model, which was compared with the You Only Look Once (YOLO) version 2 network. Experimental results indicate that the proposed CNN-based motorcycle recognition system achieves high detection accuracy, comparable to the YOLOv2 model. This system contributes to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 by improving sustainable urban transportation systems and traffic management. Additionally, it holds significant commercial value for motorcycle brands through enhanced vehicle tracking and market analysis

    The research is for Laguna State Polytechnic University, on the 4th year BSIT students of the College of Computer Studies enrolled in the Methods of Research. The College of Computer Studies – Research Manual, aligned with the LSPU Research thrusts and priorities, implements the mandated four-fold functions, namely instruction, research, extension, and production. Some unexpected difficulties and problems led to the study, which aimed to analyze and provide information and interventions to address the students’ difficulties encountered in their research processes. The procedures of the study were categorized into main themes and sub-themes for students who encountered difficulties. Using data analysis on thematic exploration, the findings revealed that the respondents encountered personal problems relating to school expenses, a lack of interest, and a negative attitude toward the research. The results are on emotional problems encountered, such as excessive stress in doing academic tasks and low self-esteem or not believing in one’s capabilities. To address these difficulties based on the results, the author provides solutions and interventions that the College of Computer Studies should address: research capacity-building workshops, mentoring and support programs, regular feedback with evaluation, access to resources, incorporating ethical considerations, and gender equality initiatives

    Cellular Phones versus Study Habits:  A Case Study for College Students

    The immature knowledge of the students about what smartphones can offer them might lead them to an unknown world. The objective of this study is to examine the effects of cellular phones on the study habits of the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSInfoTech) college students of Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT), Palompon, Leyte. The research methodology used in the study was descriptive correlation. 61 students were given access to an online questionnaire to conduct the research. The questionnaires gathered data on the students\u27 general characteristics, gender, preferred mobile application for studying, phone usage habits, average amount of time spent studying, length of study sessions, and degree of study habit. The findings indicated a strong correlation between students\u27 cell phone use and their study habits, which was indicative of good study habits. The findings showed that students frequently utilized their phones for communication, leisure, amusement, and academic purposes. The researcher hypothesized that a mobile phone would provide them with the information they required, and most students concurred that cellular phones would not interfere with their ability to study. Rather, smartphones are progressively evolving into an intriguing educational tool that helps students study more. When used, it guarantees that students can connect digitally, access course materials, and use online learning environments

    Citrus fruit yields in the Philippines have been fluctuating dramatically in recent years. Diseases, pests, and soil inadequacy have all contributed to the citrus industry\u27s severe decline. More than 15 viruses and virus-like diseases have infected Citrus. Agricultural productivity must improve for a country to be progressive. Resources should be utilized to their full potential, diseases and pests should be controlled efficiently, and technological advancements must be adopted. This application will identify and map common pests and diseases of citrus fruits in Oriental Mindoro, apply image processing techniques to analyze diseases of citrus fruits with corresponding solutions caused by bacteria, and give information about diseases related to citrus fruits and how to cure them. The researchers used the Spiral Model as a Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) model to develop this application. In this model, researchers can plan the flow of the application. If the application did not meet the desired result, the researchers could revise it again until it met the desired one. The researchers used the convolutional neural network to classify and process the captured images of the citrus fruits’ diseases and pests. The researchers asked the selected Citrus farmers in Oriental Mindoro to evaluate the project using the different ISO 25010 criteria and rated the application as very acceptable overall

    Assessment of Institutional Factors of Faculty Learning Management System Adoption Using Extended Technology Acceptance Model

    Learning Management Systems (LMS) have been proven to encourage a constructive approach to knowledge acquisition and support active learning. One of the keys to successful and efficient use of LMS is how the stakeholders adopt and perceive this learning tool. This paper assesses the institutional factors that influenced the use of LMS among the selected State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) in Leyte and Biliran Provinces using the Extended Technology Acceptance Model (ETAM). The model was used to determine the actual usage of the system. Further, a quantitative non-experimental research design using a cross-sectional survey, purposive sampling, and stratified sampling was applied in the study. A sample of 306 faculty members completed a survey questionnaire via Google Forms. Data were analyzed using the mean and standard deviation, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient, one-way ANOVA, and Scheffe’s Post Hoc test. The study found significant relationships between institutional factors and their perceived ease of use and usefulness of LMS. Moreover, the faculty members’ perceived ease of use significantly affected their attitude towards using LMS. Likewise, the faculty members’ perceived usefulness of LMS significantly affected their attitude and acceptance of the use of LMS. Also, their attitude towards using the LMS significantly affected their acceptance of the use of the LMS. Furthermore, the results of the study have confirmed the reliability of ETAM in examining the adoption and acceptance of LMS. Thus, the researcher recommends a Google Classroom Guide for Educators website to be used among faculty members to enhance their teaching strategies and capabilities in using the platform

    The study “Implementation of a Web App for Children’s Management and Engagement for Pagsanjan Laguna” was conducted with the primary aim of developing and implementing the Arriola-Robles Children\u27s Clinic Web App to enhance clinic management and patient engagement in Cabanbanan, Pagsanjan, Laguna. Using technology in medical care helps reduce malpractice, costs, and paperwork. This also improves the quality and efficiency of medical care. Various technological applications facilitate patient data\u27s electronic storage, transmission, and display, enabling access to health information and in-person consultations. These advancements help mitigate malpractice, reduce costs, and minimize paperwork while improving the quality and efficiency of care. This study aimed to design and develop a face-to-face medical consultation system for the Arriola-Robles Children`s clinic in Cabanbanan, Pagsanjan, Laguna. Employing a descriptive development research design, the study utilized Rapid Application Development (RAD) methodology during the system’s development phase and conducted black-box testing to evaluate functionality. The Technology Acceptance Model served as the primary framework for the evaluation phase, alongside ISO/IEC 25010:2011 for assessing software quality metrics. The findings revealed an overall weighted mean of 4.73, indicating a “Strongly Agree” consensus among target users regarding the face-to-face consultation system\u27s potential to enhance the existing consultation processes at Arriola-Robles Children’s clinic

    Spatial Analysis of African Swine Fever Outbreak: A Basis for Developing a Web-Based Decision Support System using Business Analytics and Geospatial Technology

    The Philippine hog industry, crucial to national food security and rural economies, is facing a major threat from African Swine Fever (ASF), a highly contagious disease that has devastated the domestic pig population since its emergence in 2019. The economic toll has been severe, with over 300,000 pigs culled to control outbreaks. Despite government efforts, including the declaration of a national state of calamity and various biosecurity measures, the response has been hindered by insufficient testing and weak monitoring mechanisms. This study proposes the development of a web-based decision support system (DSS) to enhance ASF management using Business Analytics, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise (DBSCAN). The system aims to map ASF outbreaks in real-time, identify disease hotspots, and provide actionable insights to various stakeholders, including veterinarians, farmers, and policymakers. It integrates descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to support informed decision-making, optimize resources, and guide targeted interventions. The research uses Region 6, Western Visayas, as a case study, known for its high ASF outbreak rate and significant role in the national hog industry. The DSS employs spatial and non-spatial data, including outbreak trends and biosecurity protocols, and is evaluated by ASF professionals, IT experts, and policymakers to ensure its effectiveness in real-world applications. The system’s potential to improve outbreak forecasting and intervention planning is emphasized, with the goal of strengthening the resilience of the Philippine hog industry and contributing to global sustainability efforts. This study highlights the importance of integrating advanced technologies in managing ASF outbreaks, with a focus on data-driven decision-making to protect food security, promote public health, and support economic growth

    Contextualized Online Document Management System

    This study aimed to develop online document management system that could generate documents faster and accurate. It covered the design, development and evaluation of the system intended for course program accreditation. The Rapid Application Development (RAD) model of system development was used to emphasized the development cycle using a component based construction approach. The developed contextualized online document management system was evaluated by the selected IT Expert, Accreditation task force and Office staff. It utilized a descriptive research design which employs a questionnaire to evaluate the functionality, efficiency, and usability of the developed system. The results revealed that the respondents consider the online document management system a highly acceptable software application.  Thus, it is recommended for utilization during Online Course Program Accreditation for fast, easy access, and efficient document profiling

    Fund Allocation and Budget Utilization Rate in Relation to SUC Leveling Performance

    In the academe, the realization of desired educational goals and objectives counts largely on the effective planning and management of school funds by the school administrators. The amount of funds allocated to schools by the government and the budget utilization rate of the recipient are some factors to be considered in meeting the programs, projects, and activities. This study aimed to determine the fund allocation and Budget Utilization Rate (BUR) in relation to SUC leveling performance among technological State Universities and Colleges (SUCs) of Region VIII in terms of Personal Services (PS), Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE), and Capital Outlay (CO). The respondents were budget and planning officers in each SUC. Descriptive-evaluative research was utilized in this study since it assessed or examined the level of fund allocation and budget utilization rate in relation to SUC leveling performance. Percentage and mean were used to analyze the pertinent data, and coefficient correlation was applied to establish the significant relationships among the variables. Findings revealed that the bigger fund allocation with a correspondingly high budget utilization rate gave favorable SUC  leveling performance. It is suggested to incorporate a conceptual model that links Information and Communications Technology (ICT) that accounts for budget allocation and utilization in future studies

    Classification of Kinalabasa Tomato Using Convolutional Neural Network

    Determining the freshness of tomatoes is essential for evaluating their quality, impacting both consumer satisfaction and the economic benefits for farmers. Freshness is typically assessed by outer appearance, including color, size, and shape, with skin color indicating ripeness and influencing selling price. Properly assessing freshness also helps determine the shelf life of stored tomatoes. This study introduced an affordable and straightforward technique for classifying agricultural commodities using image processing, focusing on Kinalabasa tomatoes and classifying them based on color features into three categories. The study employed the MobileNetv2 architecture for training and testing the dataset, aiming to improve the classification of Kinalabasa tomatoes through deep learning techniques. The study evaluated the model\u27s performance using metrics like accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and specificity. The optimal configuration for classifying Kinalabasa tomatoes was determined to be 10 epochs and a learning rate of 0.001. MobileNetv2 achieved a high accuracy rate of 94%, demonstrating its effectiveness in classifying tomatoes, though the specificity rate of 64% indicated some room for improvement in identifying negative instances. Comparing MobileNetv2 with ShuffleNet architectures will provide further insights into their respective effectiveness and performance in this classification task
