Shipboard Exposure of a Maritime Professional
This is a motivational study from a participant who successfully rose through the ranks in a male-dominated maritime profession. The study was designed to reveal the personal and emotional journey of a Filipina Seafarer toward achieving her officer rank. It utilized the descriptive case study type based on a real-life narrative. The self-written narrative of the participant was analyzed using Sentiment Analysis with Python Natural Language Text Processing (NLTK) 3.9.1 Text Classification. The positive, neutral, and negative statements throughout the narrative served as the basis for identifying thematic experiences and insights. From the analysis, several theme-based propositions were developed: (1) Resilience is built through hardship and becomes the foundation of professional strength. (2) Gender bias and discrimination remain real barriers, but perseverance can shatter them. (3) Supportive leadership creates transformational opportunities. (4) Faith and gratitude sustain emotional endurance. These propositions complement the Self-Determination Theory adopted in this study. The results encourage aspiring seawomen to persevere despite the odds, and call on maritime educators and shipboard leaders to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for women at sea
A Pyramid of Strength: The Pedagogical Resilience of Adaptive Mathematics Teachers (PRAM)
The evolving landscape of Philippine educational reforms—spanning the Revised Basic Education Curriculum (RBEC), K to 12, and MATATAG initiatives—presents formidable challenges for elementary mathematics teachers. This study, grounded in Straussian Grounded Theory, delves into the pedagogical resilience of these educators, investigating the strategies they employ to sustain effective instruction amidst curriculum transformations. Utilizing Symbolic Interactionism as an interpretive lens, the research captures their lived experiences through in-depth interviews with twenty elementary mathematics teachers in the Iloilo Province Division and document analysis. A rigorous qualitative approach—incorporating open, axial, and selective coding alongside constant comparison and memo writing—yielded key themes that illustrate the complexities of adaptation. Teachers reported various challenges, including instructional barriers, resource constraints, inadequate training, technology integration difficulties, workload management concerns, and learner-related issues. In response, they demonstrated pedagogical resilience through five interrelated domains: cognitive, behavioral, supportive, emotional, and reflective strategies. The study culminates in the development of the Theory of Pedagogical Resilience of Adaptive Mathematics Teachers (PRAM), conceptualized through a dynamic Pyramid Model. This model posits that pedagogical resilience emerges from the interaction and reinforcement of these five domains, enabling teachers to navigate curricular shifts effectively. PRAM provides valuable insights for professional development initiatives, institutional support enhancements, and policy reforms, ensuring the continuity and quality of elementary mathematics education in the Philippines
Community Based Crime Prevention Program: A Partnership Approach at the Local Level
Crime prevention remains a top priority to ensure public security and safety among its residents. This study deals with the “Community-Based Crime Prevention Program: A Partnership Approach at the Local Level”. It uses a qualitative-phenomenological design with the use of thematic analysis to explore the participants’ experience and observation on the implementation of crime prevention. It employed a convenient sampling technique with the use of the interview guide in a semi-structured way to extract the necessary data from the participants. There were six (6) generated codes based on the data collected and analyzed; active reporting of traffic incidents, delayed reporting of violent crimes, fear of involvement, witness trauma/shock, minor delinquencies, parental authority and accountability, and PNP delayed response due to late reporting. With these, three (3) central theme were identified based on the generated code: the community’s active involvement in some incidents, the lack of parental control and the normalization of deviant behavior among youth, and delayed and selective reporting weakening crime response. The findings concluded that there are interlinked factors to achieve the goals of preventing crime, like crime reporting, family discipline, and the efficiency of law enforcement response to incidents

Using a descriptive-correlational research design, data were collected from 187 randomly selected graduating students through a 50-item Likert-scale questionnaire. Descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation) and Pearson’s correlation coefficient were employed for analysis. Moderate discrepancies between academic curricula and industry demands were identified, highlighting the need for curriculum enhancement to better prepare graduates for real-world challenges better. Recommendations include integrating practical experiences, fostering soft skills development, strengthening IT education, promoting entrepreneurship, and establishing partnerships with industry stakeholders. This research contributes to understanding how academic institutions can align their programs with industry requirements to ensure graduates\u27 competitiveness in the global hospitality sector
Educational Gains and Learning Continuity Through Non-Formal Learning Centers
Learning is a continuous process that occurs in various contexts and means. When a system is subjected to disruptive conditions, an alternative learning delivery may even become a pivotal mechanism of continuity in ensuring effective learning. One such learning delivery is through non-formal learning centers (NFLCs), initially and primarily established to provide remediation and enrichment learning for extreme groups of learners – the struggling and the achieving learners. The disruption of in-person classes during the pandemic, the adoption of modular learning delivery, and subsequently, the shift to the new normal made these centers significant learning spaces in the community. This descriptive research presents NFLCs’ role in promoting learning continuity and the corresponding educational gains of enrollees or tutees during and after the pandemic through the perspective of randomly selected parents, center owners & operators, and teachers/tutors. It presents a profile of learners in terms of some demographics and the characteristics of these centers, catering to the educational needs of student-clients. It identified learners’ key educational gains, which include the development of learning strategies and skills, the achievement of academic excellence, personality development, the accomplishment of learning outputs, and adjustment and skills in the adoption of modular learning as a new approach adopted by schools. Moreover, attendance in centers promotes social adjustment to reduce isolation and minimize the negative impact of prolonged exposure to gadgets. These findings indicated learning centers’ role in supplementing traditional classroom learning through a more customized learning program operated as a viable entrepreneurial venture

Expert System-Based Assessment for Vermicomposting Development
Poor vermibed conditions are one of the contributors to the degradation of vermicompost which includes nutrition imbalance, where the essential nutrients are not distributed evenly, like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, which contribute to the healthy growth of plants. It is essential to monitor the environmental conditions of the vermibed to maintain high-quality vermicompost. However, lack of expertise, geographical limitations, and the complexity of environmental factors are a few of the challenges and burdens in manual vermibed assessment. This study explores the development of expert system-based assessment for vermicomposting to address these challenges by automating data analysis, reducing manual assessment burdens, and minimizing human error that can help our farmers to vermicompost successfully. By considering key environmental parameters such as temperature, moisture content, and pH level, this ensures that they can have consistent and objective evaluations, real-time insights for adjustments to the bed, and enhanced accessibility to expert-level assessments regardless of their location or resources

Exploring Maritime Waray Students\u27 Experiences with Bisaya Language Understanding: A Phenomenological Inquiry
Language of instruction plays a pivotal role in students’ understanding and attainment of quality education. One of the factors that affects students’ understanding and quality of education is language. Thus, language barriers significantly impact the comprehension of information among students. Philippines, being one of the leading producers of seafarers in the world, constitutes a significant portion of the global merchant fleets. The enchantment of a promising career and financial stability paved the way for many Filipino students to take up maritime education, specifically at institutions like Palompon Institute of Technology (PIT). However, students who are non-native speakers of the in the locale are perplexed with understanding both the instruction and communication with locals due to language barrier. This qualitative phenomenological study sought to explore the lived experiences of the purposively selected Waray students at PIT, focusing on their understanding of the Bisaya language and its implications for language education and cultural integration. Data collection was done through semi-structured interviews, which were then analyzed thematically. After the analysis of the qualitative data, six themes emerged, which served as the basis for the discussion. This study concludes that language, culture, and social integration challenges appear to be prevalent among Maritime Waray students, which causes ineffective communication. Moreover, discrimination against women is still rampant. Thus, shedding light on this issue and promoting inclusive education and workspace must be nurtured. Recommendations such as cultivating a more inclusive curriculum, providing learning resources- online and printed, and the protecting women are proposed.
