Get PDF\u27Sandaang Taon (Centenary) is the theme song of the Proletaryo: Dokumentaryo ng Kilusang Manggagawa sa Pilipinas (Proletariat: Documentary of the Philippine Workers’ Movement) produced in 2002 to commemorate the 100 years of militant unionism in the country and the very important role of the workers in sowing the seeds of the struggle for national freedom and democracy. Musikang Bayan contributed the song as a tribute to the inspiring and continuing struggle of the Filipino workers. In Danny Fabella’s own words, “This song is a tribute to the 100 years of workers movement in the Philippines to honor their heroism and the greatness of their struggle for a sovereign and just society”

No full textAng papel na ito ay tungkol kay Bonifacio, sa kilusang gremio at kilusang unyon noong dantaon 19 na humantong sa kilusang pambansa para sa pagpapalaya ng bayan noong 1896 at nagtapos sa unang pagdiriwang ng Mayo Uno bilang Araw ng Paggawa sa Pilipinas noong 1903. May limang na bahagi ang papel na ito:
1. Saang uri nagmula si Bonifacio? Bakit siya maaring ituring na uring “timawa;”2. Paano sila nataguriang plebeyo sa panahon ng Kastila;3. Ang mga gremio bilang maagang samahan ng mga manggagawa at pundasyon ng unyon;4. Ang pakikisangkot ng mga anak pawis, timawa o dukha, mga manggagawa sa panahon ng himagsikan;5. Exploring the Impact of Human Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation Toward Women Migrant Workers: A Case Study in Riau, Indonesia
Get PDFThe opportunity for working outside the homeland to pursue a better life istempting, specially for those who are living unsettled in terms of economic context and with improper education. This situation has brought some issues pertaining to abuse of migrant workers, specially women. Human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation toward them are considered as criminal violation of human rights. Reports from various sources pertaining to trauma, humiliation and fear of physical violence and psychological perception are alarming. Regarding the phenomenon described, this study is intended to give a comprehensive overview on the impact of this issue in Riau, Indonesia which is considered as one of the strategic points in Indonesia where deviation of migrant workers flow occurs. Data were analyzed by considering the practical implication of socio-culture, psychology, and the aspects of national security. Pull and push factors of the situation are revealed as the trigger of the desire for working abroad by considering the interaction among communities. Recommendations for holding counselling services to the victims to minimize their psychological distress, as well as improve their well-being, become part of the rehabilitation of victims. Trafficking as part of national security will be discussed critically as part of political aspects
Philippine Historiography: Issues and Trends
Get PDFThe article provides a critical perspective through which the development of Philippine historiography can be viewed. The author starts with a discussion of Western/European conception of history and compares it with authentic Filipino conception of kasaysayan. The article argues that these developments are anchored to specific ideological changes through time. History serves as a legitimation of Spanish colonialism by means of the narratives by the early Spanish missionaries. History was also utilized as protest (e.g. the historical and ethnological researches by the Filipino propagandists). Get PDFThe Katipunan was in their discourse of Nation the metaphor of a Mother --“Inang Bayan.” This intelligent conversation was a response of the “anak ng bayan” in the written discussion of Madre España expanded by the Filipino Ilustrado. The ideology in the discourse of Inang Bayan is inherent to all members of Katipunan. This ideology united the Katipuneros to search for the “kagalingan ni Inang Bayan.” In the final analysis, the Katipunan gave a high preference to define the word nation as the “mother” vis-a vis the “patria” of the west, the value and honor given by the supremo to women.
It’s good to engage the question, why character of a woman was used bythe anak ng bayan to conceptualize the katipunan organization. This research will try to answer this question by presenting the following: first, the socio-cultural context that was responsible in the promulgation of such discourse; second, the perspective of Andres Bonifacio who was the proponent of the said discourse as brain for interpretation
