Unveiling the Mysteries: Human Communication with Jinn - Myth or Reality?

    No full text
Al-Qur\u27an regulates all forms of communication: with Allah, fellow humans, and spirits/jinn. In human Communication with Jinn, Allah reported through the story of the fall of the Prophet Adam and Siti Hawa from heaven after consuming the khuldi fruit. Both slipped because of a jinn\u27s instigation in Allah\u27s name. It proves that apart from Jinn and humans being able to communicate, the potential for deception is also genuine. Therefore, this research aims to explain the communication/relationship between humans and Jinn. This qualitative research method uses a thematic approach to verses from Al-Qur\u27an relating to human and Jinn communication. Data was from literature by analyzing books and scientific journals with similar themes. Data analysis uses the transcendental communication/magical communication paradigm. The research results show that Al-Qur\u27an explained that human Communication with Jinn exists. However, it does not need to be developed. Human and Jinn communication has many negative effects. The negative impact is that humans will always be filled with anxiety, will tend to commit crimes, and will be classified as the actions of people who are misguided and disobedient to Allah. Some Jinns are believers, and some are unbelievers. However, humans cannot differentiate them because they are supernatural beings. Communication between humans and Jinn generally occurs through ruqyah syar\u27iyyah rituals to improve the community\u27s economy and shamanic practices

Controversy and Voluntarism Among the Elite: An Ethnographic Study of the Sufi Community in Cibingbin, Indonesia

    No full text
This article explores the intricate dynamics among Sufi elites in Cibingbin, highlighting the significant tensions within this distinctive group. The Sufi community is deeply divided, engaging in intense debates and frequent confrontations with each other. Central to these disputes are issues surrounding the Nasab dialectics, an ideology associated with the habaib that stresses the concept of voluntarism among the Sufi elite. These internal debates are most intense between the habaib faction, known as Kanzus Sholawat Cibingbin, and the local religious authorities, referred to as Kyai Kampung. As each group digs in and solidifies their doctrinal positions, the struggle for dominance in the public sphere becomes more pronounced. This phenomenon, which aligns with Habermas\u27s theories regarding the legitimacy of power in public spaces, has unexpectedly fueled the momentum of the Laskar Walisongo movement. Despite the apparent weakening of the habaib\u27s defensive stance, both the habaib and the Kyai Kampung have maintained considerable local influence. The ongoing power struggle highlights the complex interplay between belief, influence and control within this segment of the Sufi community. Ultimately, they have made public spaces an arena not just for collective imagery, but also the most vital part of the organisation’s sustainability or spirit

Religious language has become part of social life. Apart from functioning as an expression of religious devotion, religious language also contains the meaning of internalizing religious virtue, which has implications for social piety. This research aims to describe the Jum’at Berkah tradition at the Jogokariyan Mosque in Yogyakarta. This socioreligious tradition has strong roots in the doctrine of philanthropy and takes advantage of the momentum of Friday as a day that is believed to contain many blessings. Methodologically, this research utilizes qualitative research procedures and data collection through observation and interviews. By utilizing an anthropolinguistic perspective, this research finds several conclusions. First, the Jum’at Berkah tradition carried out at the Jogokariyan Mosque in Yogyakarta, is a cultural phenomenon of Muslim society closely related to the muscular and implicative elements of the Islamic language. Environmental, social, and religious understanding factors contribute to implementing Jum’at Berkah through Sego Jum’at. The use of the term Jum’at Berkah in giving charities is based on people\u27s religious understanding. It explains that Friday is sayyidul ayyam, a good day, and distinguishes it from other days. Second, Jum’at Berkah has a religious impact with a socio-economic dimension, specifically increasing people\u27s awareness of sharing, strengthening brotherhood ties with fellow humans, and competing to do kindness

Technology development brings many conveniences, but on the other hand, it also provides challenges, such as data security. The phenomenon of hacking personal data that ends in fraud and other crimes seems to be evidence. Technology in the era of society 5.0 was rising to facilitate human work, but it is used to misuse big data from the individual level. Social media provides opportunities for open privacy by revealing confidential personal data. In addition to requiring self-control, it also requires security and data protection. This research aims to analyze the phenomenon of data theft in the context of Islamic communication with solutions obtained from the perspective of the Qur\u27an. The method utilized is qualitative research through literature study using a constructivist paradigm. The results of this study revealed that internal and external factors caused data theft. The ability to filter information and information literacy in the digital space, maintain ethics in the media space, integrate roles between government and society, and protect digital communication from the perspective of the Qur\u27an have a positive effect on information preservation in the digital realm. In addition, continuous integration between the government and the community is also needed to overcome the rife data theft problem

The Hajj worship in 2022 is the first post-pandemic time for journalists outside Saudi Arabia to report on the Hajj process. This research discusses Islamic media\u27s coverage strategy, which assigns journalists to Saudi Arabia to cover the Hajj. The research utilized a qualitative method with data sources based on interviews with journalists from Republika media, tv Muhammadiyah (tvMu), and NU Online. The research findings reveal that Indonesian journalists can merely cover the Hajj Media Centre of the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. Another limitation is the prohibition of Saudi Arabian authorities from taking pictures with professional cameras, so journalists employ smartphones to take photos and videos. Regarding news themes, Republika highlighted the importance of health protocols for Indonesian pilgrims. At the same time, NU Online and tvMu reported on religious principles addresed to their respective organizations\u27 perspectives. Primary news sources included pilgrimage officers in Saudi Arabia and Indonesian authorities. In particular, tvMu and NU Online correspondingly interviewed news sources from their respective organizations

Does CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference) fit the expectation: Voices from the classroom

The CEFR, known globally as a key framework for structuring English language curricula, has been adopted in many educational systems worldwide. However, despite its widespread recognition, its practical application within Indonesian universities has not gained the same level of traction, remaining relatively limited compared to other regions. This difference has attracted scholarly interest, leading to research exploring the framework\u27s applicability and potential adaptation. The research investigated how students view the fit between the framework and their expectations of the competencies of English teacher training graduates. To gather numerical data on students’ perceptions, a targeted sample of 94 participants completed a questionnaire developed based on C1-level CEFR descriptors. Complementing the quantitative data, semi-structured interviews were conducted with a subset of respondents to gather richer qualitative insights into their perceptions. Analysis of the quantitative data, including calculating the average score, showed a generally positive student perception of CEFR, with an average score of 3.78. Qualitative analysis of the interview data identified four key reasons for student agreement with the CEFR descriptors: alignment with job requirements, usefulness as communication tools, the reflection of the community expectations, and potential to support their learning. The findings imply that the stakeholders must specify the curriculum framework in which CEFR adoption can be an option. Based on these findings, it is implied that stakeholders responsible for curriculum development should specify a clearly defined framework within which CEFR adoption can be effectively implemented. The CEFR, known globally as a key framework for structuring English language curricula, has been adopted in many educational systems worldwide. A Study on the Quality of Mashhur Ghairu Istilahi Hadith: Reconsidering the Stereotype of Misogynistic Hadiths

    Get PDF
Hadith serves as the second authoritative source of Islamic teachings after the Qur’an, functioning either to elucidate the Qur’an or to supplement aspects not explicitly addressed within it, thereby guiding the religious practices of Muslims. The Mashhur Hadith is classified as a hadith transmitted by three or more narrators in each level of its chain but does not reach the level of Mutawatir. Despite not achieving the status of Mutawatir, Mashhur Hadiths are considered valid for legal determinations. In contemporary discourse, the term “Mashhur Hadith” extends beyond its technical classification by Hadith scholars to include hadiths that have gained popularity among the general populace (‘inda lisān al-nās), referred to as Mashhur Ghairu Istilahi. This article aims to examine hadiths that are prevalent among feminists, particularly those perceived as misogynistic. Muslim feminists, in their scholarly pursuits, often utilize hadiths as foundational texts. They compile hadiths they believe contradict the principles of gender equality—labeling them as misogynistic—and conduct takhrij studies to critically analyze these hadiths, seeking arguments to support the notion of feminism within Islam

Transposition of the Initial Creation of Women in the Qur’an to the Bible (Al-Kitab): Julia Kristeva’s Intertextuality Analysis

    Get PDF
This paper examines the Qur’ānic transposition of the concept in Bible (Al-Kitab) regarding the creation of women originating from the rib of men. This discussion does not seem to emerge from an explicit narrative in the Qur’anic text but rather from interpretations and hadiths narrated by Bukhari and Muslim. This study addresses two main questions: (1) What is the concept of the initial creation of women in the Qur’an and Al-Kitab? (2) How does the Qur’an transpose this concept to Al-Kitab? Using Julia Kristeva’s intertextuality approach, the research reveals that the transposition involves several elements: namely; the connection of substance or excerpt regarding the purpose of the creation of pairs to complement each other and produce offspring, the contradiction between the text of the Qur’an and Al-Kitab which contains elements of haplology occurs in the abrogation of the Qur’anic text which states that women come from the ribs of men, defamiliarization or changes in meaning conveyed by the Qur’an implicitly about the initial creation of women and demystification which occurs when the Qur’anic text changes the definition of the initial creation of women who are the same as men so that this difference creates Qur’anic opposition to the concept of Al-Kitab or conversion

PRINSIP-PRINSIP KONSERVASI LINGKUNGAN DI DALAM AL-QUR’AN

The global ecological crisis has sparked widespread debate about the human-nature relationship since the 1960s. Lynn White, Jr. criticized the anthropocentric tendencies in Judeo-Christian traditions, which he argued contributed to environmental degradation. In contrast, the principles of environmental conservation in the Qur’an remain underexplored. This study addresses this gap by examining ecological concepts in the Qur’an and their implications for environmental sustainability. Using a qualitative literature review methodology, we systematically analyze relevant Qur’anic verses and scientific interpretations to elucidate these principles. Our findings reveal two key concepts: first, the Qur’an integrates environmental stewardship with faith, asserting that true belief necessitates environmental responsibility. Second, the Qur’an designates humans as stewards (khalīfah) of the Earth, tasked with its wise management and care. This study contributes to the discourse on religion and ecology by highlighting the potential role of the Qur’an in promoting sustainable environmental practicesKrisis ekologi telah menjadi perhatian global sejak era 1960-an, memicu perdebatan tentang hubungan manusia dengan alam.
