Qur\u27anic Values in Sundanese Culture: A Study of Politeness Principles in Paribasa
This study investigates the principles of linguistic politeness in the Sundanese language as a reflection of Qur\u27anic values. The method employs a qualitative approach through content analysis. The research reveals that the politeness principles embedded in Sundanese paribasa align with Qur\u27anic teachings. These include the concepts of qaulan ma’rufa (good words), qaulan sadida (truthful words), qaulan baligha (effective words), qaulan karima (noble words), qaulan layyina (gentle words), and qaulan maysura (clear words). These principles highlight the significance of respectful communication, consideration for others\u27 feelings, and promoting harmony within social relationships. Consequently, the politeness observed in Sundanese paribasa serves as a manifestation of Qur\u27anic teachings in daily social interactions. The findings of this research also enhance the understanding of how local religious and cultural values can synergistically contribute to the development of polite and harmonious communication practices. The novelty of this study lies in its integration of linguistic politeness, rooted in cultural values and Qur\u27anic principles. It serves as a model for fostering ethical and courteous communication in contemporary society
Tradition and Spirituality: Exploring the Motifs of Rifaiyah Batik in the Context of Islamic Values
Batik Rifaiyah is a cultural heritage of the Rifaiyah Community located in Kalipucang Wetan Village, Batang Regency, Central Java. It serves as an expression of Islamic spirituality. This type of Batik represents artistic craftsmanship and is a medium for teaching Islamic values through symbols and motifs. However, understanding the philosophical values and foundational aspects of Rifaiyah Batik is currently limited to the oral traditions passed down by batik makers and the Rifaiyah Community, with insufficient written documentation. This study aims to explore and comprehend the fundamental principles of Rifaiyah Batik as a manifestation of Islamic spiritual art, focusing on the Pelo Ati and Materos Satrio motifs. The research employs a qualitative method utilizing a social phenomenology approach. It includes observations of the batik motifs, in-depth interviews with batik makers, and a review of relevant literature. The analysis is guided by the Pyramid Base Guiding Craft Innovation theory, which identifies four crucial dimensions in the batik tradition: Traditional Artifacts, Traditional Ecology, Teaching of Tradition, and Non-Material Culture. The findings reveal that Rifaiyah Batik reflects Islamic values through theological, aesthetic, and artistic ethics. Theologically, it avoids depicting living beings, using arabesque to express Tawheed. Aesthetically, its colors are inspired by the Qur\u27an. Artistically, its meticulous craftmanship is an act of worship
Murwakala in Mass Ruwatan Ceremony in Surakarta: Its Relevance and Meaning in a Modern Perspective
The Ruwatan tradition in Javanese culture involves a sacred performing art called Murwakala. This performance is carried out individually or collectively to self-purify, ask for forgiveness, or ward off disaster for individuals of various ages and social classes. Individuals categorized as Sukerta (bring bad luck, are dirty, or have disturbances) are considered not yet pure and, therefore, require a ruwatan (purification) ritual. Given the intensive use of symbols in the ruwatan ritual, understanding the messages conveyed through the performance art and ritual becomes problematic. This study aims to investigate how modern audiences interpret the ruwatan ritual. Using the theory of Symbolic Interaction, this study adopts a qualitative method. Data collection is done through observation, document studies, and in-depth interviews. Informants are the ruwat puppeteer, ruwat participants, and audiences. The findings of this research demonstrate that for the mass ruwatan tradition and Murwakala performance to maintain their relevance and significance in contemporary society, the symbolic meanings embedded within these practices must be conveyed more explicitly to both participants and the broader public. Ruwatan participants give meaning to ritual symbols and actions according to their cultural background, religion, and personal experience as an interpretation of the performance given by the ruwat puppeteer. Moreover, the study highlights the necessity of communicative innovation, such as implementing informational media, to support the continued vitality and relevance of ruwatan rituals in modernity
Strategic Communication and Genealogical Legitimacy: Rabithah Alawiyah’s Public Relations Response to Lineage Denial and False Habib Phenomena
The phenomenon of lineage denial and the emergence of individuals falsely claiming the status of Habib has increasingly posed a substantive challenge for Rabithah Alawiyah as a genealogical and religious authority. This study seeks to examine the public relations strategies employed by Rabithah Alawiyah in responding to these issues, particularly in navigating the contestation of genealogical authenticity and the social implications arising from the presence of illegitimate claims. Methodologically, this research adopts a qualitative approach with a case study design, enabling an in-depth exploration of Rabithah Alawiyah\u27s communicative practices and institutional responses to the aforementioned challenges. The research utilizes the Four-Step Public Relations Process theory. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and document analysis. Informants were selected using purposive sampling techniques. The research findings indicate that the Rabithah Alawiyah public relations actively monitors issues through social media and community reports to identify patterns of lineage denial and false claims of Habib. The organization designs strategies based on lineage education, strengthening genealogical literacy, and building synergy with academics and religious figures. Rabithah Alawiyah optimizes digital media, seminars, and community collaborations to strengthen factual narratives. The evaluation is conducted periodically by reviewing public responses, educational programs\u27 effectiveness, and community engagement levels to clarify the information the organization provides. The research concludes that education-based public relations strategies, information transparency, and data-driven approaches are key to maintaining the organization\u27s credibility
Pro-Family Discourse: A Medium for the Perpetuation of Hegemonic Masculinity by AILA
This research focuses on the debate on gender justice discourse in Indonesia, particularly its origins during the Draft Law on Criminal Acts of Sexual Violence (RUU-TPKS). Simultaneously, anti-sexual violence discourse began to emerge from women\u27s groups. However, on the other hand, the draft ignite rejection from other group named AILA (Aliansi Cinta Keluarga). AILA narrates their discourse as a form of protection for families. Hence, this paper investigates the discourse distributed by AILA through online media, such as websites, and social media. this research will refer to Foucault\u27s argument that underscores that discourse is a narrative vessel that is never neutral and never value-free, because discourse is a tool in producing knowledge that is easily accepted and translated into behavior. According to Foucault, the embodiment of discourse into behavioral forms occurs through institutions that serve power. In other words, in the discourse ecosystem, there are institutions that guarantee discourse. By using qualitative method, data were collected through documentation and observation. The findings show that AILA\u27s discourse on family and women as mothers has become a cover for marginalizing women. By framing the pro-family narrative, AILA distributes misconceptions about feminism by portraying feminists as a group of women who hate men, destroy families, and promote prostitution and promiscuity. Through AILA\u27s posts on their social media accounts, researchers can observe how they utilize the power of various actors in producing discourse. Instead of using family discourse to gender justice in Indonesia, the researchers conclude that AILA actually distances women from gender justice agendas, thus preventing them from accessing policies relevant to their lives

Development Strategy of Teacher Competence with the 70-20-10 Model for SDG-Aligned Community-Based Education: A Literature Review
Education plays a vital role in shaping the development of society and the nation. In a rapidly changing world, teachers are key players in preparing the next generation to face increasingly complex challenges. Within this dynamic context, improving teacher competencies has become a critical need. One alternative approach is the 70-20-10 Model, which combines formal learning, informal learning, and learning through experience, while also integrating community-based learning, and social engagement to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). This paper explores the key principles of the 70-20-10 Model in the context of teacher professional development and its potential to encourage local and global collaboration for achieving inclusive, equitable, and sustainable education outcomes. Through a comprehensive literature review, this study discusses the implications, benefits, and challenges related to the implementation of this model. The findings highlight that the 70-20-10 Model provides a solid framework for continuous teacher development, where 10% of learning comes from structured activities such as workshops or training sessions, 20% from collaborative learning through interactions with peers and mentors (both online and offline), and 70% from practical classroom experience integrated with community involvement. However, the implementation of this model also faces several challenges, including limited resources, resistance to change, and difficulties in measuring learning outcomes. Therefore, to fully realize the potential of this model, strong commitment from all stakeholders is needed, along with supportive systems and well-planned strategies that are responsive to both local contexts and global education priorities.Education plays a vital role in shaping the development of society and the nation. Implementation of Community Service from a Women\u27s Perspective in Strengthening Leadership and Governance at Pondok Pesantren Al-Islami Kebon Jambu Cirebon
The development of Pondok Pesantren Al-Islami Kebon Jambu Cirebon, as a traditional Islamic educational institution, represents a strategic urgency in ensuring its relevance and effectiveness amid the dynamics of the digital era. Special emphasis is placed on the gender perspective, considering that the pesantren is led by a female religious leader (Ibu Nyai), whose leadership reflects a strong and influential female presence. This study aims to critically examine the impact of multidisciplinary community service on strengthening pesantren governance, especially in supporting women’s leadership and building a gender-responsive pesantren system. A qualitative case study approach was adopted using a feminist framework. Data collection involved participatory observation, in-depth interviews, literature review, and collaborative practices through the KKN PLUS (Community Service or Kuliah Kerja Nyata) PLUS. The activities engaged male and female students from diverse academic backgrounds, including Architecture, Visual Communication Design, Informatics Engineering, Information Systems, Accounting, and Management. The results show that the initiative contributed not only to technical aspects such as the design of physical facilities and digitalization of financial management but also strengthened the managerial capacity of the pesantren, particularly in supporting women-led leadership. Furthermore, multidisciplinary integration generated holistic and coordinated solutions, especially in the application of information systems, enhancement of financial literacy, and the design of infrastructure that accommodates the needs and comfort of female students. Therefore, this community service initiative functions as a medium of social transformation that not only improves institutional quality but also affirms the strategic role of women within the pesantren environment
The Terms Mahīdh and `azā in the Interpretation of Menstruation: A Maqāshid al-Shari’ah Analysis of Surah al-Baqarah (2: 222)
This study examines the meaning of mahīḍ and `azā in Surah al-Baqarah (2:222) as terms associated with menstruation. It applies a maqāshid analysis to find out the meaning behind i\u27tizal command and its benefits for both men and women. These terms have often been used to justify the perpetuation of patriarchal values. The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach, drawing on classical and contemporary exegetical perspectives, including those of Muslim feminists, while also integrating a maqāshid al-sharī‘ah framework to uncover the intended wisdom behind Surah al-Baqarah (2:222). The study reveals that interpreting the term mahidh —as referring separately to time, location, or the menstrual process itself—has allowed space for the understanding of iʿtizāl fī al-mahidh as a general injunction to avoid women during menstruation. However, a more accurate exegetical reading indicates that the verse refers specifically to abstaining from sexual intercourse, understood as avoiding the site of menstruation. This restriction serves both as an expression of respect for women and as a form of regulation over reproductive health. Furthermore, the term `azā, when interpreted solely through a textual or literal lens—as filth, impurity, blood, or something objectionable—has contributed to social and religious exclusion of women during menstruation. In contrast, a contextual reading of `azā reframes it as a unique biological condition that involves physical and psychological distress. Under such circumstances, it is more appropriate to provide women with comfort, dignity, and recognition of their reproductive rights. Consequently, the objectives of Islamic law (maqāshid al-sharī‘ah), particularly the protection of religion (hifz al-dīn), life (hifz al-nafs), and progeny (hifz al-nasl), become more apparent when this verse is approached not solely through textualist readings, but also through contextual and purposive interpretation. A maqāshid-based analysis thus carries important implications for the physical and psychological well-being of women, and shapes the discourse on sexual ethics, gender relations, and spiritual agency of women in both private and public spheres
Ekonomi Islam dan Keadilan Sosial dalam Implementasi Sistem Ekonomi Syariah Mengurangi Ketimpangan Sosial di Negara Berkembang: Tinjauan Sistematis
Social inequality in developing countries remains a major challenge despite various economic interventions that have been made. This study aims to evaluate the role of Islamic economic systems in promoting social justice and reducing social inequality through a systematic review approach. This study uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method for scientific publications for the period 2020–2025, with thematic analysis and visualization techniques using VOSviewer. The results of the study show that Islamic economic instruments such as zakat, waqf, and infaq have a significant contribution to wealth redistribution, community empowerment, and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The findings indicate that the application of Islamic economics is effective in reducing inequality if supported by good governance and inclusive policies. This research confirms the importance of value-based economic systems for social justice and encourages follow-up studies that empirically test the effectiveness of Islamic economic implementation in various local contexts
