    From Theory to Practice: Global Englishes Language Teaching in the Indonesian Context

    English has evolved from a historically local language into the world’s most widely used global lingua franca, shaped by colonial expansion, economic power, and intensified globalization. Today, English is no longer owned by a small group of so-called native speakers but is used predominantly by multilingual speakers for intercultural communication across diverse global, local, and glocal contexts. Responding to this sociolinguistic reality, this paper synthesizes key insights from Global Englishes scholarship and articulates a comprehensive pedagogical framework consisting of thirteen interrelated dimensions for English language teaching. Drawing on paradigms such as World Englishes, English as a Lingua Franca, and English as an International Language, the paper critically examines how assumptions about language norms, users, pedagogy, assessment, ideology, and teacher education require reconceptualization. Each dimension foregrounds the need to move beyond static, idealized native-speaker models toward dynamic, usage-based, and context-sensitive understandings of English communication. Collectively, the framework highlights the importance of aligning curriculum, instruction, assessment, and teacher beliefs with the plural, multilingual, and ideologically embedded nature of English in the twenty-first century. The paper concludes that a paradigm shift in ELT is both timely and necessary to ensure pedagogical relevance and social responsiveness in an increasingly superdiverse world. &nbsp

    Analysis Mandatory Policy of “Berkah Digital” Application in Murabâhah Financing at BMT Assafi\u27iyah Berkah Nasional Metro, Indonesia

    This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the mandatory policy requiring the use of the Berkah Digital application to optimize the distribution and supervision of murâbahah financing at BMT Assafiyah Berkah Nasional Metro. Digital transformation is seen as crucial to improving the operational efficiency of Islamic microfinance institutions. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The results show that although these policies aim to speed up administration and increase transparency, on-the-ground practices are not yet fully optimal. The application\u27s implementation has succeeded in facilitating systematic installment control. Still, its effectiveness is significantly hampered by the low digital literacy of senior members and by frequent network technical constraints. As a result, part of the supervision process is still carried out manually and has not been fully integrated according to the policy target. Overall, this policy provides a good foundation for digitalization, but requires an in-depth evaluation of the readiness of human resources and supporting infrastructure to ensure the optimization of murâbahah financing can be achieved in a truly accountable manner

    Empowering Local Wisdom: The Role of Tembang Bocah Banyumasan in Promoting Sustainable Development Goals in Banyumas, Indonesia

    Traditional cultural expressions offer robust, community-based pathways for advancing sustainable development; however, their concrete contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are frequently overlooked in local policy and research. This study examines how Tembang Bocah Banyumasan supports SDG-related initiatives in Banyumas, Indonesia, with a particular focus on economic growth, health and well-being, education, and environmental awareness. Utilizing a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were gathered through in-depth interviews with musicologists, cultural activists, and community members involved in the production and promotion of this tradition. The findings were analyzed thematically through a sustainable development lens, linking cultural heritage and local wisdom to social transformation. Results indicate that Tembang Bocah Banyumasan not only solidifies cultural identity but also serves as an accessible platform for transmitting values, fostering children’s creativity, and encouraging civic participation. Furthermore, these cultural functions generate broader sustainability benefits by enhancing informal learning, reinforcing healthy social behaviors, stimulating creative economy opportunities, and promoting environmental stewardship. This study concludes that Tembang Bocah Banyumasan provides an authentic mechanism for localizing SDG initiatives while sustaining regional heritage and community resilience. Its novelty lies in the explicit mapping of a specific musical tradition to the SDGs, demonstrating how localized practices serve as grounded catalysts for sustainable development

    Photovoice: An Alternative Method for Inclusive Research in Re- vealing the Collective Memory of Space and Identity in Salatiga

    Communication studies increasingly confront the complexity of social spaces and the need for inclusivity. This study explores the implementation of photovoice as an alternative method for inclusive research, aiming to provide equal participation for youth communities in Salatiga, including individuals with disabilities. The research seeks to uncover how collective memory and urban identity are constructed through visual narratives and participatory engagement. Employing a qualitative approach within a constructivist paradigm, data were collected from 14 informants through focus group discussions, interviews, and 30 photographs, then analyzed using the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) framework. Findings indicate that photovoice facilitates participants’ reflection on spatial experiences and personal memories, encouraging dialogue across diverse backgrounds. It strengthens participants’ roles as co-creators of knowledge and offers a visual platform for expressing marginalized perspectives. Despite interpretative challenges, photovoice proves effective in revealing lived experiences and fostering inclusivity. The study concludes that photovoice serves as an innovative and participatory approach to inclusive research. Its broader implication emphasizes the potential of visual methods to democratize knowledge production, enhance equitable representation, and contribute to the reconstruction of urban and cultural identities within contemporary communication studies

    Religious radicalism often arises from rigid and literalist interpretations of Islamic sources that overlook the Prophetic values of mercy (rahmah), facilitation (taysir), and moderation. This article revisits the hadith "Yassiru wa la tuassiru, bashshiru wa la tunaffiru" ("Make things easy and do not make them difficult; give glad tidings and do not drive people away") as a normative and strategic framework for religious deradicalization in Indonesia. Using qualitative library research, the study examines the hadith through takhrij, sanad and matn analysis, asbab al-wurud, and classical and contemporary commentaries. The findings show that facilitation (taysir), encouragement (tabshir), and avoiding deterrence (tanfir) form a coherent paradigm to counter extremism by promoting inclusive, tolerant, and humanistic religiosity. Applied in education, dawah, and public policy, this Prophetic ethic strengthens religious moderation, prevents radicalization, and supports social harmony.Radikalisme agama sering muncul dari penafsiran keagamaan yang kaku dan literal sehingga mengabaikan nilai profetik rahmah (kasih sayang), taysir (kemudahan), dan moderasi. Artikel ini meninjau kembali hadis "Yassiru wa la tuassiru, bashshiru wa la tunaffiru" (mudahkanlah dan jangan mempersulit; berilah kabar gembira dan jangan membuat orang lari) sebagai kerangka normatif dan strategis bagi deradikalisasi keagamaan di Indonesia. Dengan metode penelitian kepustakaan kualitatif, kajian ini menelaah hadis melalui takhrij, analisis sanad dan matn, asbab al-wurud, serta komentar ulama klasik dan kontemporer. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa etika profetik berupa kemudahan, penguatan harapan, dan penolakan intimidasi membentuk paradigma yang koheren untuk mencegah ekstremisme melalui pemahaman yang inklusif, toleran, dan humanistik. Penerapannya dalam pendidikan, dakwah, dan kebijakan publik memperkuat moderasi beragama dan harmoni sosial

    Pengaruh Literasi Digital Terhadap Kesiapan Kerja Alumni Pendidikan Ekonomi: Studi Pada Lulusan Universitas Negeri Gorontalo

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh literasi digital terhadap kesiapan kerja alumni Jurusan Pendidikan Ekonomi Angkatan 2020 Fakultas Ekonomi Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode survei. Populasi penelitian berjumlah 121 alumni, dengan sampel sebanyak 55 responden yang ditentukan menggunakan teknik simple random sampling dan rumus Slovin dengan tingkat kesalahan 10%. Instrumen penelitian berupa kuesioner dengan skala Likert yang telah diuji validitas dan reliabilitasnya. Teknik analisis data menggunakan regresi linear sederhana dengan bantuan program SPSS versi 21.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa literasi digital berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kesiapan kerja alumni. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai thitung sebesar 15,636 > ttabel 2,004 pada taraf signifikansi 5% (α = 0,05) serta nilai signifikansi 0,000 < 0,05. Koefisien determinasi (R²) sebesar 0,822 menunjukkan bahwa 82,2% variasi kesiapan kerja dapat dijelaskan oleh literasi digital, sedangkan sisanya sebesar 17,8% dipengaruhi oleh variabel lain di luar penelitian ini. Temuan ini mengindikasikan bahwa semakin tinggi tingkat literasi digital alumni, maka semakin tinggi pula tingkat kesiapan kerja yang dimiliki.Dengan demikian, literasi digital menjadi salah satu faktor penting dalam membentuk kesiapan kerja alumni, khususnya dalam menghadapi tuntutan dunia kerja yang semakin berbasis teknologi dan digitalisasi

    “I Don’t Know Whom to Trust”: A Quantitative Study of Cybersecurity Awareness, Stress, and the Digital Divide Among Older Adults in India

    This study investigates cybersecurity awareness and perceptions among older adults in Indore, India, focusing on psychological aspects, behavioural factors, and levels of knowledge regarding data protection. The rapid proliferation of Information Technology has not been matched by adequate digital literacy among seniors, leaving them vulnerable to online threats such as financial scams and identity theft. Using a quantitative approach, a structured questionnaire was administered to 115 elderly respondents selected through purposive sampling: 44% aged 50–60, 43% aged 60–70, and 13% aged 70+. 56% of respondents resided in rural areas. Data were analysed using SPSS, employing correlation, regression, and ANOVA. The findings reveal that a lack of technological knowledge significantly contributes to stress (B = 0.430, p < 0.001) and reduces quality of life (B = 0.418, p < 0.001). Behaviours such as trusting anonymous callers and sharing financial information were associated with low data privacy awareness. Correlation analysis indicated a strong negative association between increased knowledge of data protection and concerns about password security (r = –0.625, p < 0.001). The study concludes that significant knowledge gaps heighten older adults’ vulnerability to cyber threats, adversely affecting their psychological well-being and online behaviour. Future research should expand to more diverse and representative samples and evaluate the effectiveness of targeted cybersecurity training programmes. Policy implications include developing senior-friendly technology standards, community-based digital literacy initiatives, and stronger regulatory frameworks for data privacy to foster a safer digital environment for India’s ageing populatio

    The The Effect of PLEASE Strategy as Metacognitive Learning for Improving Vocational Students’ Writing Skill

    Writing is a crucial skill in learning English, yet many students, especially in vocational high school, still struggle to master it. One potential solution is the PLEASE strategy, a metacognitive technique that guides students through the writing process and helps them organize ideas effectively. This study investigated its impact on students’ writing. The aim was to find out whether the PLEASE strategy could significantly improve students’ writing skill. A quantitative method was used, involving 75 tenth-grade students of SMK Negeri 2 Palembang in the academic year 2024/2025. They were conveniently divided into two groups: X TKJ 1 as the control class with 38 students and X TKJ 2 as the experimental class with 37 students. The data were collected through essay writing tests on a report text over twelve meetings, including a pretest, treatments using the PLEASE strategy, a post-test, and a questionnaire. Results from the paired samples test showed a t (36) = -6.486 with p < 0.001, whereas the independent samples test yielded a t (73) = 2.489 with p = 0.015. These results indicate that the PLEASE strategy significantly improved students’ writing performance and can be considered an effective technique for teaching writing.Menulis merupakan keterampilan penting dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, namun banyak siswa, khususnya di sekolah menengah kejuruan, masih mengalami kesulitan untuk menguasainya. Salah satu solusi yang dapat digunakan adalah strategi PLEASE, yaitu teknik metakognitif yang membimbing siswa melalui proses menulis dan membantu mereka mengorganisasi ide secara efektif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dampak strategi PLEASE terhadap kemampuan menulis siswa. Tujuannya adalah untuk menemukan apakah strategi PLEASE dapat secara signifikan meningkatkan keterampilan menulis siswa. Metode kuantitatif digunakan dengan melibatkan 75 siswa kelas X SMK Negeri 2 Palembang tahun ajaran 2024/2025. Mereka dibagi menjadi dua kelompok: X TKJ 1 sebagai kelas kontrol dengan 38 siswa dan X TKJ 2 sebagai kelas eksperimen dengan 37 siswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes menulis esai pada teks laporan selama dua belas pertemuan, termasuk pre-test, perlakuan menggunakan strategi PLEASE, post-test, dan kuesioner. Hasil uji paired samples test menunjukkan nilai t (36) = -6.486 dengan p < 0.001, sedangkan uji independent samples test menghasilkan nilai t (73) = 2.489 dengan p = 0.015. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa strategi PLEASE secara signifikan meningkatkan kemampuan menulis siswa dan dapat dianggap sebagai teknik yang efektif untuk pembelajaran menulis

    This study, entitled “The Effect of Using Arabic Pocket Books on Improving Students’ Speaking Skills at MTI Tarusan Kamang Islamic Boarding School”, was conducted to address the low speaking ability and limited vocabulary of students as well as the lack of engaging learning media. The purpose of this research is to examine whether the use of Arabic pocket books significantly improves students’ speaking skills. This research employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental approach using a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sample consisted of 26 students from a special class selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through oral pretests and posttests to measure speaking performance before and after the treatment. Analysis was carried out using the Paired Sample t-Test with the assistance of SPSS. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ speaking skills after the use of Arabic pocket books. The t-test results showed that the t-count exceeded the t-table at the 5% significance level (23.57692 > 2.0595), leading to the rejection of Ho and acceptance of Ha. Thus, the use of Arabic pocket books is proven to be an effective and practical learning medium to enhance students’ speaking skill Keywords: Pocket Book, Learning Media, Speaking Skill  هذا البحث بعنوان تأثير استخدام الكتيّب(Pocket Book)  اللّغة العربيّة لترقيّة  قدرة مهارة الكلام لدى الطّلّاب في معهد التّربيّة الإسلاميّة تاروسان كامانج، ويهدف إلى معالجة ضعف القدرة على الكلام وقلّة المفردات لدى الطّلّاب، إلى جانب قلّة الوسائل التّعليميّة الجاذبة. والغرض من هذا البحث هو معرفة مدى تأثير استخدام الكتيّب باللّغة العربيّة في لترقيّة قدرة مهارة الكلام عند الطّلّاب. استخدم الباحثة المنهج الكمّيّ بالتصميم القبليّ–البعديّ (Pre-Experimental Design)  من نوع اختبار قبليّ–بعديّ لمجموعة واحدة. وبلغ عدد العيّنة 26 طالبًا من الفصل الخاصّ تمّ اختيارهم بطريقة قصديّة. جُمعت البيانات عن طريق اختبار شفويّ يتكوّن من اختبارالقبليّ واختبار البعديّ  لقياس قدرة الطّلّاب على الكلام قبل المعالجة وبعدها. وتمّ تحليل البيانات بواسطة اختبار (Paired Sample t-Test) باستخدام برنامج SPSS وقد أظهرت النتائج وجود فروق دالّة إحصائيًّا بين الاختبار القبليّ والبعديّ، حيث بلغت قيمة t المحسوبة أكبر من قيمة t الجدول عند مستوى 5% (23,57692 > 2,0595). وبذلك تُرفض الفرضيّة الصفريّة وتقبل الفرضيّة البديلة. وعليه، يتبيّن أنّ استخدام الكتيّب وسيلة فعّالة وبسيطة لترقية  قدرة مهارة الكلام لدى الطلّاب.  الكلمات الرئيسية: : الكتيّب، الوسيلة التّعليميّة، مهارة الكلام &nbsp

    A Textual Metafunction Analysis of Vocational High School Students’ Speech

    This study examines the realization of theme and thematic progression in speeches of vocational high school students at the Erlangga English Speech Contest 2021. A Systemic Functional Discourse Analysis method was applied by focusing merely on textual metafunction. The research data were collected by downloading a video on YouTube entitled ‘National Grand Final Erlangga English Speech Contest 2021 Vocational High School’. Then, the video was transcribed into written form. I only took four speeches in this study and labeled VHS 1, VHS 2, VHS 3, and VHS 4. The result showed that all themes are realized in the speeches. The textual theme becomes the dominant one. It indicates that the speakers can create a logical connection between the meanings in the text. In the case of thematic progression, all thematic progressions are realized. The zig-zag pattern becomes dominantly employed. This frequent occurrence indicates that the speakers can develop the idea from the previous rheme to become the following theme. However, some grammatical errors still become an issue
