Social, Economic and Human Capital: Risk or Protective Factors in Sexual Violence?
In Chile, studies on protective factors and risk factors for sexual violence are limited and very few have incorporated analysis of different types of capital (social, economic, human) as social resources in the protection against sexual violence. The objective of this research is to evaluate to what extent the stock of different capitals act together, as either protective or risk factors in sexual violence in different interpersonal environments. The sample consisted of 1665 women between 15 and 30 years of age (M = 23.47, SD = 4.41). Artificial neural network analysis and social network analysis were used. The nodes representative of human and economic capital have a protective role of low relevance due to their position in the network, while the nodes of social capital acquire a structural relevance due to the central positions of the network. It is concluded that the structural social capital of neighborhood networks constitutes the main protective factor for sexual violence in all areas, and in turn, the structural social capital of networks with non-significant others was the main risk factor in sexual victimization
Effectiveness of Adapted Taekwondo, Multi-Component Training and Walking Exercise on Health Status in Independent OlderWomen: Study Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial (TKD & Aging Project)
This study protocol aims to analyze and compare the effects of an adapted taekwondo program with respect to multi-component training and walking exercise on health status in independent older women. Secondarily, we analyze the variability of the inter-individual response and compare it according to the designated training system. The sample will consist of 64 women between 60 and 65 years, randomly assigned to experimental group 1 (n = 16; adapted taekwondo), experimental group 2 (n = 16; multi-component training), experimental group 3 (n = 16, walking exercise) or control group (n = 16; no intervention). The experimental groups will perform the designated training for three sessions (60 min per session) per week over 16-weeks, while the control group will not receive any treatment. The main outcome will provide information about (i) blood pressure, (ii) lipid profile, (iii) frequency of food consumption, (iv) body composition, (v) cognitive status, (vi) brain activity, (vii) health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and (viii) physical-functional fitness. Our hypothesis indicates that adapted taekwondo produces more significant effects and greater inter-individual responses in cognitive status, brain activity, HRQoL, and postural balance than the others training methods. If this intervention proves effective, it could be an alternative for older women
Surface electromyography in ballistic movement: a comparative methodological analysis from taekwondo athletes
Surface electromyography (sEMG) signal processing methods used to assess combat sports are heterogeneous.
This research aims to compare the electromyography peak (peak EMG) in taekwondo athletes with five processing methods.
Secondarily, the coefficient of variation (CV) and the noise percentage regarding the peak EMG (NPRP) were compared. The
sEMG record of eight leg muscles of sixteen athletes (12 male and 4 female, ages 20.31+4.1 years) was consulted. The
processing methods were: a) Smoothing 1, b) Smoothing 2, c) Root mean square (RMS) 1, d) RMS 2, and e) Empirical mode
decomposition (EMD). Results indicate that the peak EMG differs among Smoothing 1 vs. EMD; Smoothing 2 vs. EMD;
Smoothing 1 vs. RMS 2; Smoothing 2 vs. RMS 2; Smoothing 1 vs. RMS 1; RMS 1 vs. RMS 2; RMS 1 vs. EMD, and RMS 2 vs.
EMD. For all cases p<.05 in seven of the eight muscles studied. No differences were found for the CV. The EMD NPRP was
lower than the other methods analyzed (p<.05). As a conclusion, there are differences among the studied methods and
should be considered when interpreting the peak EMG. The EMD seems to be a useful alternative for reducing noise and
artifact movement

Psychological, Physiological, and Physical Effects of Resistance Training and Personalized Diet in Celiac Women
Background: Gluten intolerance is a systemic process of autoimmune nature; it develops in genetically predisposed subjects with gluten ingestion. The only treatment for celiac disease (CD) is a lifelong strict gluten-free diet (GFD). This study was designed to evaluate adherence to a GFD, risk of an eating disorder, and nutritional status in adult CD patients undergoing different interventions.
Methods: A total of 28 Spanish women, aged 40 years or more, took part in a randomized controlled trial. Each group received a different intervention: group 1, gluten-free nutrition plan + exercise (GFD + E); group 2, gluten-free nutrition plan (GFD); group 3, celiac controls (NO-GFD); and group 4, non-celiac controls (CONTROL). The training was prescribed by a sport scientist. It was based on resistance training with elastic bands; beforehand a warm-up was performed and the resistance was increased progressively. The variables studied were adherence to the GFD, risk of eating disorders, blood values, and body composition.
Results: Celiac women with personalized nutritional planning presented greater adherence to a gluten-free diet (p < 0.001). Regarding leukocytes, significant differences were observed between the GFD and control groups (p = 0.004). Perimeters and folds did not decrease significantly.
Conclusion: Women with celiac disease who follow an adapted and personalized diet have a better adherence to a GFD compared to those who follow a non-professional diet, and therefore have a better immune system status (blood leukocytes)
