Effect of thoracic mobilization exercises on hamstring flexibility: a randomized controlled trial
Background and aim: The aim was to investigate the effect of thoracic mobilization exercises on hamstring flexibility.Materials and methods: One hundred twenty individuals with hamstring tightness were included in the study. The participants were randomized into two groups: the experimental group (EG) (n = 60) or the control group (CG) (n = 60). The EG performed a home -based thoracic mobilization exercise program comprising 2 sets with 10 repetitions, once a day, 3 days a week, for 4 weeks. The CG performed active-assisted stretching of the hamstring comprising 3 sets with 10 repetitions for 15 seconds. The active knee extension (AKE) test was used to measure hamstring flexibility, and self-reported hamstring pain intensity was evaluated with a visual analog scale (VAS). All evaluations were conducted at the beginning and end of the intervention. Results: Both groups showed significant improvement in AKE (p<0.05). Pain intensity during the stretching exercises was significantly decreased only in the EG. The improvements in AKE and VAS score were greater in the EG than in the CG (p < 0.05). Between-group effect sizes were large for AKE (d = 1.075) and VAS score (d = 1.077).Conclusion: The current study showed that thoracic mobilization exercises may increase hamstring flexibility and reduce pain intensity during hamstring stretch exercises
İskemik inmelerde linguistik prozodinin incelenmesi = Investigation of linguistic prosody in ischemic stroke
Prosody is a supra-segmental feature of language that functions to convey the speaker's emotional state and to provide linguistic clues about the syntactic structure of speech content. The widely accepted view in the literature on language research is that the left hemisphere is dominant in morphosyntactic, semantic and linguistic prosody, while the right hemisphere is involved in the pragmatic dimension of language and the processing of emotional prosody. In this study, we aimed to examine the linguistic prosodic perception (LPP) performance of individuals with Middle Cerebral Artery (MCA) ischemic stroke in receptive language. Twenty-one individuals diagnosed by the stroke unit, equalized in terms of education and age, with 11 left and 10 right MCA strokes and 21 healthy individuals were included in the study. The test used in the study consisted of 16 pairs of sentences, each sentence was played once to the participants and LPP in receptive language was examined. As a result of the study, it was found that MCA stroke impairs LPP regardless of hemisphere localization and there was no difference between the LPP performance of individuals with and without aphasia. LPP in receptive language was found to be associated with auditory comprehension and naming performance among the subtests of the Aphasia Language Assessment Tool. The LPP responses of individuals with MCA ischemic stroke were predominantly focused on items that were closer to the reality of the outside world
Evaluation of Awareness and Attitude Regarding Infection Control Practices in Dental Prosthesis Laboratories
Objective: Transport of blood and saliva-contaminated materials such as impressions and prostheses between clinics and laboratories increases the risk of cross-infection. This study evaluates dental technicians knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors about infection control practices.
Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted through an online questionnaire for dental technicians working in Istanbul between July 03, 2021, and January 31, 2022. The questionnaire comprised 38 multiple-choice questions on demographic information, infection control awareness, disinfection practices, personal protective equipment use, and Hepatitis B vaccination.
Results: In the research, 256 dental technicians took part, and 73% of them graduated from were graduates of dental lab technician school. The rate of those who received infection control training was 60.2%. 72.3% of the participants were vaccinated against hepatitis B, and 8.6% were not vaccinated due to their immunity. 59.4% of dentists did not inform the laboratories about the sent materials disinfection status. Although 97.3% of the technicians thought there was a risk of infectious disease transmission from impressions and prostheses delivered from dental clinics, they disinfected 88.7% of the alginate impressions and 87.5% of the silicone and polyether impressions. The rate of those who used all the equipment, gloves, masks, and eye protection during disinfection was 31.7%. Medical wastes were separated in 40.6% of the laboratories. 69.9% of technicians thought the infection control procedures were adequate in their laboratories, whereas 20.7% did not.
Conclusion: It would be beneficial for dental technicians to receive infection control training to increase their knowledge about disinfection practices and the use of personal protective equipment. We suggest that contaminated materials be transported to laboratories after being disinfected at dental clinics, infection control guidelines for dental prosthesis laboratories should be established, and regular inspections should be conducted to reduce the risk of cross-infection
Relationship between Structural Empowerment and Nurse and Patient-Reported Outcomes: The Mediating Role of Control over Nursing Practices
Practices that strengthen nurse work environments and enable them to have control over nursing practices have gained importance in recent years as they increase nurses' retention and patient care quality. This study aimed to examine the relationships between structural empowerment and nurse and patient-reported outcomes and the mediating role of control over nursing practices in these relationships. This correlational and cross-sectional study was carried out from September 2018 to May 2019 at two public hospitals in Turkey. We recruited staff nurses (n = 319) working in the inpatient units of these hospitals and their patients (n = 319). Data were collected using self-report measures from staff nurses and patients. It was determined that structural empowerment and control over nursing practices had a positive relationship with job satisfaction and nursing care quality, as well as a negative relationship with intention to turnover; however, there was no relationship with patient-reported outcomes. Control over nursing practices partially mediated the relationship between structural empowerment and outcomes of job satisfaction and nursing care quality. This study indicates that promoting the structural empowerment of nurses and ensuring that they have control over practice will increase job satisfaction and quality of care. Nurse managers can increase nurses' job satisfaction and quality of care by creating supportive work environments and ensuring they have control over nursing practices
What do TikTok videos offer us about dental implants treatment?
Objective: To evaluate the quality, source, popularity, visibility and reliability of Tiktok videos on dental implants. Materials and Methods: A Tiktok search for dental implants was performed English language setting. Search hashtags were determined as "#dentalimplants," "#dentalimplantsurgery," "#dentalimplantstreatment," and "#implantdentistry." 148 of the 300 videos watched were included the study. Two periodontologists scored the videos for quality, reliability, utility, visibility and popularity. Videos' quality was evaluated using the Global Quality Scale (GQS) and the DISCERN tools, by categorizing them through quality of communication, duration, likes and dislikes, views, source and video type of each video were recorded. Results: There was significant positive correlation between "GQS" and "Total DISCERN" (Rho: 0.636) and "Duration in seconds" (Rho: 0.343) (p < 0.05). For Total DISCERN, averages of the 31-45 seconds (p=0.010) and 46 seconds and above (p=.018) groups were higher than the averages of the 0-15 seconds group and average of the Educational group was higher than the average of the Testimonial, Product Advertisement and Entertainment groups (p=0.001, p=0.033 and p=0.041). Healthcare professionals mostly upload GQS 2 score videos and Hospital/Universities mostly upload GQS 2 and 3 score videos (p < 0.05). Testimonial videos mostly receive GQS2 score videos and the 'Videos rich in supplementary visuals' quality also receives the most GQS4 score videos (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The results of this study demonstrate that TikTok videos provide low to moderate quality information about dental implants and that TikTok may not provide reliable information about dental implants
Knee osteoarthritis (OA) leads to consequences such as pain and physical dysfunction, which lead to
a decrease in the quality of life. There are studies in which the kinesio taping (KT) technique leads to
positive results in patients with knee osteoarthritis and has positive effects on pain and functionality.
Developed by Dr.Kenzo Kase in the 1907s, this technique is a special taping technique applied with an
acrylic, adhesive, colored elastic cotton tape that can extend up to 140% of its normal size. The tape,
which has the ability to stretch 55-60% of its resting length in the longitudinal direction, can adapt to
the tension and relaxation of the skin with movement, and imitate the thickness and flexibility of the
skin. Being so similar to the skin texture is sufficient to keep both the continuity of the application,
the use of the tape and the tolerance of the tape at the maximum level. This technique can be applied
to the problem in various ways. This review article evaluates the efficacy of Kinesio taping on people
with knee orteoarthritis and analyzes the available evidence on the KT technique. This review aims to
summarize the current literature on the effectiveness of the kinesio taping technique in patients with
knee osteoarthritis

Evaluation of Cytotoxicity and Antibacterial Effect of Different Types of Mineral Trioxide Aggregate
Objective: Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) has been used as a filling material in endodontic procedures over decades. The newer formulations of MTA were launched in the dental market and their cytotoxic, proliferative and antimicrobial effects need to be revealed. This study compared the possible cytotoxic and proliferative effects on fibroblasts and the antimicrobial activity against Streptococcus mutans, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Enterococcus faecalis of four different MTAs in the dental market. Materials and Methods: Cytotoxicity assay was performed on 3T3 fibroblast cell lines were determined using yellow tetrazolium 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide, while the antimicrobial activity was tested with the broth microdilution method. Results: RetroMTA, AngelusMTA, and NeoMTA demonstrated a proliferative effect on 3T3 cells, suggesting induction in tissue repair. Moreover, NeoMTA showed the highest antimicrobial activity against all strains tested. Conclusion: According to our study, NeoMTA and RetroMTA may be recommended for clinical applications in comparison with the conventional AngelusMTA
Temporomandibular Eklem Disfonksiyonunda Manuel Terapinin Yeri
görülmektedir. TMD fizyolojik ve psikolojik nedenlerle oluşabilmektedir. Altta yatan etyolojik faktörler;
Temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) is the most common myofascial disorder that includes symptoms
such as muscle and joint pain, decreased jaw mobility, headache, tinnitus, joint stiffness, and fatigue. The
most common symptoms are; pain, noise in the joint, limitation of mandibular movements and tenderness
in chewing muscles.
TMD is characterized by pain that starts in the joint around the eyes and behind the ear and spreads to the
neck and shoulder. The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is located in front of the external auditory canal,
between the fossa mandibularis facies articularis in the temporal bone and the proccessus condylaris
of the mandible. It is the only movable joint of the cranium, formed by tight fibrous tissue, articular disc,
various ligaments and muscles, and is the only joint in which both sliding and rotational movements occur.
TMD is a public health problem that is the most common source of chronic orofacial pain that negatively
affects daily activities. It is most common in the 20-40 age group. TMD can occur for physiological and
psychological reasons. The underlying etiological factors; It is a high amount of functional stress and
impaired maxilla-mandibular relationship in the TMJ and masticatory muscles. Bruxism (clenching teeth)
is among the psychological causes. Diet, changing habits, medications, splint therapy, injections, laser,
therapeutic exercise therapy, manual therapy and surgical treatments are used in the treatment of TMD.
Therapeutic exercises are applied to reduce pain, provide muscle relaxation, reduce muscle hyperactivity,
regain muscle function and joint mobility. Manual therapy is used to restore normal joint range of motion,
resolve fibrotic adhesions, reduce local ischemia, increase proprioceptive input, facilitate synovial fluid
production, and reduce pain. In the management of TMD, treatment may include and should focus on poor
posture, muscle spasm or pain around the head and neck, and treatment of orofacial pain of cervical origin
(pain originating from the upper cervical levels). In this review, it was aimed to investigate the effectiveness
of manual therapy, which is one of the treatment options for disorders of the temporomandibular joint and
related structures
