    Achene macro-micromorphology of Pulicaria (Asteraceae) from Turkiye and its taxonomic significance

    The genus Pulicaria Gaertn. belongs to the tribe Inuleae Cass. and it is represented by six species P. arabica (L.) Cass., P. armena Boiss. & Kotschy ex Boiss., P. dysenterica (L.) Gaertn., P. odora (L.) Rchb., P. sicula (L.) Moris, and P. vulgaris Gaertn. in Turkiye. P. armena is endemic to the country. In this study, fruit macro-micromorphological characteristics of six Pulicaria species from Turkiye were demonstrated using stereo-microscope and scanning electron microscopy. The colors of the achenes range from light-brown to brown. The shapes are obovate to elliptic in outline. The pappus is persistent in all studied species, with two rows of pappus hairs except in P. sicula. Its pappus composed of one row of capillary bristles. Others have the outer row developing into a small crown and the inner row consisting of capillary bristles. All taxa have glandular trichomes, except for P. arabica. An identification key is also provided to differentiate between Pulicaria species. Fruit features provide a useful tool for differentiating the examined species. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: Achene macro-micromorphology of Pulicaria species was studied via LM and SEM. A diagnostic key based on achene features was created for Pulicaria species. Achene features provide a useful tool for differentiating the examined species.

    This research is executed to explore the substantial impacts of delay problems in construction projects and highlight some novel practices and solutions that could mitigate this issue. The research implemented two study methods, including quantitative and qualitative approaches. A third research approach, representing a case study of a building in Iraq, is analyzed via REVIT quantity take-off to compare the accuracy and delay problem between hand calculations and the REVIT method. The results revealed that the delay problem caused cost overrunning, losses in resources, rework, and customer dissatisfaction. Also, the findings indicated that active communication, effective teamwork, efficient support from top management, and robust project planning are important to resolve the delay issue. Further, the use of modern delay management techniques is vital to avoid financial and resource losses. The results also indicated that the projects’ activities should be tracked in accordance with their executions to help detect delays. Moreover, the results confirmed that utilizing the REVIT software for quantity take-off of steel, excavation, and concrete is greatly helpful, accurate, effortless, and could reduce significant human errors

    A review of advancements in driver emotion detection: deep learning approaches and dataset analysis

    This review paper delves into the rapidly evolving field of driver emotion detection, with a specific focus on the contributions of deep learning methodologies and the diverse datasets that facilitate this research. Facial emotion detection and recognition is a highly dynamic and challenging field in Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). It has gained attraction for several decades, but it is extremely challenging due to the intrinsic complexities associated with understanding and interpreting human emotions. Understanding and responding to a driver's emotions is increasingly important when autonomous or assisted driving becomes common. To ensure safety, comfort, and optimal interaction between the driver and the car's systems, predicting the emotional state of the driver is essential, also of great significance in practical applications. We give a comprehensive survey of the state-of-the-art driver emotion recognition works that can effectively make use of the recent deep-learning approaches to identify complex emotional cues. Moreover, we explain a variety of datasets that play a vital role in flourishing this field along with the analysis of their effect, like AffectNet, CK+, and EMOTIC. Via this survey we try to investigate the challenges authors are faced with involving this field, e.g., concerns about data privacy, real-time processing demands, and the need for interdisciplinary collaboration. More importantly, the potential of these technologies to improve the driving experience and road safety has been highlighted. We hope this survey can benefit researchers and practitioners to have more insights and provide directions for advancing drivers' emotions

    A Study on the Evaluation of Image-Guided Treatment Use in Radiotherapy Centers in Türkiye

    This study presents a preliminary investigation into the use of image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) in radiotherapy centers in Türkiye, based on survey data. Radiation therapy technologists were administered a 67-item Internet-based questionnaire. The first five items focused on demographic data, while the remaining items pertained to IGRT applications in the clinics where the technicians worked. Statistical data of the answers obtained were used in SPSS 28.0. While evaluating the study data, descriptive statistical methods (frequency, percentage) were used. A total of 314 individuals participated in the survey, with 45.9% (n=144) being female and 54.1% (n=170) being male. The study focused on patients with stomach (20.6%), rectum (18.9%), prostate (17.6%), head and neck (14.5%), lung (14.3%), and breast (13.9%) cancers. It was observed that megavoltage (MV) ports (35.7%) were used more frequently during daily checks. It has been stated that 1-25 MV ports are drawn daily. This is followed by Cone Beam Computer Tomography (CBCT) and kilovoltage (kV) port checks. In our country, it is seen that important steps have been taken in IGRT and its use is quite common. It has been observed that the technical infrastructure and manpower in the clinics are sufficient. It is predicted that the development of systems that reduce the doses received by patients and employees with IGRT and the development of wage policies will increase the use of IGRT. We hope that this result will be supported by future large-scale studies. Although we think that the use of IGRT is at an adequate level, there are differences in practices between clinics. It is thought that the establishment of national protocols for the use of IGRT will be in favour of patients and technicians

    Assessment of oral hygiene parameters in association to eating behaviors and healthy eating self-efficacy in school-aged children

    Background: Eating behavior are a broad category influenced by a various personal, social, cultural, environmental, and economic factors. The objective of this study was to evaluate the oral hygiene status of school-aged children in relation to their eating behavior and healthy eating self-efficacy. Methods: The study was carried out with the participation of 225 children aged 7-9 years. Parents carried out the Children's Eating Behavior Questionnaire (CEBQ) to assess eating behaviors and provided sociodemographic information. Oral examinations of the children were provided according to plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), simplified oral hygiene index (OHI-S), dmft and DMFT and, the Healthy Eating Self-Efficacy Scale (HESES) was administered to the children. For statistical analysis, a consistent partial least squares structural equation model (PLS-SEM) technique was utilized. Results: A statistically significant negative correlation was found between the Healthy Eating Self-Efficacy Scale and the PI, GI, OHI-S, dmfs (p < 0.001) and DMFS (p = 0.002). Emotional undereating significantly negatively affected dmfs (p = 0.021), while emotional overeating had a significant positive effect on DMFS (p = 0.036). None of the eating behavior subgroups in children showed a significant relationship with self-efficacy. Additionally, higher self-efficacy (p = 0.001) and food fussiness (p = 0.001) were found in children from high-income families, while emotional overeating (p < 0.001) and desire to drink (p = 0.009) were observed in children from middle-income families. Conclusion: This study reveals a significant relationship between healthy eating self-efficacy and oral hygiene in children. Higher self-efficacy correlates with better oral health, while emotional eating negatively impacts dental outcomes. Socioeconomic factors also play a role, suggesting that interventions should target self-efficacy and emotional eating to improve both eating behaviors and oral health in school-aged children

    INVESTIGATING BACK SURFACE COOLING SYSTEM USING PHASE CHANGE MATERIALS AND HEATSINK ON PHOTOVOLTAIC PERFORMANCE

    This research aims to improve thermal performance and compare the performance of two common crystalline PV panel types (Mono and poly). Modules with a back-cooling system were designed and numerically analyzed with SolidWorks and ANSYS-Fluent-2021-R2 for the simulation under Baghdad weather at noon. The cooling system used consists of a phase-change material, paraffin wax (RT55), with a thickness of 5 cm and a heatsink with 33 fins with heights of 10, 20, and 30 mm and thicknesses of 2, 4, and 6 mm. to select the best height of the wax 1, 3, 5, 10, 20 cm examined. The result showed that for polycrystals, the panel temperature was reduced by 8.4°C using PCM and 11.9°C using PCM-fins. Also, output power was enhanced to 200.6 W by 10.2 W, and efficiency improved by 5%. Similarly, using PCM and PCM-fins lowered the temperature of the monocrystalline by 8.3 and 12.5°C, respectively. Therefore, the output power is enhanced to 202.4 W by 10.7 W and improves the electrical efficiency by 5.2%. The results of the study showed that mono had better performance than poly. This result is acceptable and is in good agreement with previous studies. © 2024, Mustansiriyah University College of Engineering. All rights reserved

    Evaluation of Bedtime Oral Hygiene Behavior and Dietary Habits in Children

    Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of bedtime oral hygiene and dietary behaviors on dental health in children. Materials & Methods: For this study, 83 parents with children aged 6 to 8 years participated. All participants who agreed to take part in the study were called on their mobile phones during 7 days (weekdays and weekend) for collecting data of bedtime routine activities of children including oral hygiene behaviors and dietary habits 1 hour before bedtime. Children’s clinical oral examination were carried out by trained and calibrated pediatric dentist following WHO guideline 2013. IBM SPSS Statistics (version 22.0) was used for all statistical analyses, including the Mann Whitney U test, the Kruskal Wallis test, and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Results: The dmft score of children who were allowed to eat or drink 1 hour before bedtime was statistically significantly higher than those who were not allowed (p=0.014; p0.05) Conclusion: The present study highlighted bedtime dietary habits affect the dental health of children. Establishing optimal bedtime routines, including oral hygiene practices and dietary habits, is essential for proper oral hygiene and the well-being and development of children

    Women rights violation in Algeria during black decade: A historical analysis

    Algeria has pursued republican, Islamic, and nationalist identities since independence. Multiple crises occurred under an authoritarian system with ambiguity between Algeria's independence and the civil war. October 1988 ended the dictatorship's seeming liberalization and four years later, the Islamic Salvation Front (FIS) interrupted elections, plunging Algeria into the Black Decade, a latent civil war. Civil conflict in the 1990s between the government and Islamist insurgents was violent, dividing the army and society via guerilla warfare. During the 1990s Algerian civil conflict (the Dark Decade), violence against women fueled huge feminization of migration. This study explores the salient aspects of fundamentalism and violence against women during the concerned chapter of Algerian history by undercovering the mechanisms that boosted women’s movement against fundamentalism. The evidence within the study is based on in-depth interviews with unveiled and professional women who appeared to be the main targets of the terror. The thesis delineates the mechanisms of survival and resistance displayed by highly skilled Algerian secular women against the oppression bound fundamentalism.Cezayir bağımsızlığını kazanmasından bu güne dek İslamcı, milliyetçi ve cumhuriyetçi kimliklerin varlık bulduğu bir ülke oldu. Cezayir’in bağımsızlığı ve iç savaş dönemi arasındaki süreçteki belirsizlik ortamındaki otoriter sistem altinda çok sayıda kriz meydana geldi. Ekim 1988 tarihiyle diktatörlüğün görünüşteki liberalleşmesi son buldu ve dört yıl sonra İslami Selamet Cephesi (FIS) seçimleri kesintiye uğratarak Cezayir’i gizli bir iç savaş olan Kara On Yıl’a sürükledi. 1990’larda 1990’larda hükümet ile isyancılar arasındaki şiddet yüklü çatışmalar gerilla savaşı aracılığıyla orduyu ve toplumu ikiye böldü.     Cyber security awareness policy in small business using machine learning

    The process of protecting information by reducing information risk is often referred to as information security or secure information technology. It is an essential component of data risk management. Typically, this entails avoiding or minimising the likelihood of unlawful or incorrect data access, as well as the possibility of misuse, disclosure, interception, deletion, and change or distortion of information. It involves actions intended to lessen the impact of the predicament. As a result, the network is safe from any attacks, internal or external, Because of the application utilizing several machine-learning algorithms. In the context of information security, the goal of this work is to utilise various machine learning techniques to identify cyber risks. This paper first studies the CICIDS2017 dataset related to different types of cyber-attacks. Second, the datasets are ready to feed into machine learning algorithms to build various models and use nominal encoding methods to convert nonnumeric features in each dataset to numeric features. Following that, Data sets are analysed using machine-learning techniques such random forests, decision trees, naive Bayes, adaptive boosting, gradient boosting, steep gradient boosting, and multi-level inference. The dataset is used to conduct two experiments aimed at detecting various forms of attacks: 1) Asymmetric categorization to differentiate between benign and malevolent strikes, and 2) Settlement of several categories to identify different types of malicious attacks. These experiments were carried out to differentiate between distinct Denial of Service (DoS) attacks within each algorithmic dataset. The results of the experiments are as follows: Firstly, each algorithm surpasses its own performance in terms of the detection mechanism's parameters. These outcomes provide evidence that machine learning algorithms are highly effective in recognizing and distinguishing standard attacks from DoS attacks. Secondly, in the second experiment, all algorithms exhibit strong performance in the detection task across all regions. These findings demonstrate that machine-learning algorithms can efficiently detect and distinguish between the two kinds of DoS assaults
