ENHANCEMENT OF GERMINATION, SEEDLING GROWTH, WATER RELATION BEHAVIOR OF WHEAT THROUGH OSMO AND HYDRO PRIMING UNDER DROUGHT STRESS CONDITION

AGRONOMYA laboratory experiment was carried out at the central laboratory of Sher-e-Bangla
Agricultural University Dhaka-1207 during the period from December 2019 to
February 2020 to find out the effect of various Mannitol concentrations on the
germination, seedling growth and water relation behavior of wheat under drought
stress condition. This study consisted of two different experiments. Mannitol was
used as priming agent and PEG (Polyethylene glycol) was used for inducing drought
stress. Ethanol was used as surface sterilizer of wheat seeds. The data on different
parameters were recorded for analysis the result of this experiment. For the first
experiment four levels of mannitol such as 1%, 2%, 3% and 4% were used for
osmopriming and water was used for hydropriming. Seeds primed with 2% mannitol
gave the best results on studied parameters. Results revealed that the seed primed with
2% Mannitol for 9 hours showed the highest germination rate (98%), shoot length
(162.3 mm), root length (183.3mm), shoot dry weight (12.2 mg), root dry weight
(13.5 mg), fresh weight (354.0 mg), water saturation deficit (29.75), relative water
content (70.25%) and vigor index (338.69). Seeds without osmo priming and
hydropriming showed lowest results in studied parameters. In the second experiment,
2% mannitol primed (9 hours) seeds of wheat with and without drought (PEG) stress
condition was evaluated. The drought stress level was induced by 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%
and 20% PEG solution. It was observed that the genotype BARI Gom 31 primed with
2% mannitol for 9 hours seeds placed without drought (control) gave the best
performance on studied parameters but under drought stress, the highest germination
rate, shoot length, root length, shoot dry weight and root dry weight, fresh weight,
relative water content and vigor index were achieved from primed seeds placed on 5%
PEG where primed seeds placed on 20% PEG induced drought condition showed
lowest results in respected parameters. From the result of the study, it was revealed
that seeds primed with 2% mannitol for 9 hours showed the best results compared
with water primed and non-primed seed under drought stress condition

experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, from November
2019 to April 2020 to evaluate the performance of different tomato varieties e.g.
BARI Tomato 2 (V1), BARI Tomato 15 (V2), and BARI Tomato 16 (V3) under
different level of salinity e.g. 0 mM (S0), 75 mM NaCl (S1) and 150 mM NaCl (S2)
in completely randomized design with three replications. The experiment revealed
significant negative influence of salinity which decreased plant height, leaf number,
branch number, chlorophyll content, growth rate, fresh and dry weight, fruit number
etc. resulting yield loss. Damaged by S2 salinity is more severe than the S1. In
normal condition V2 produced highest yield following V3 and V1. But severe salinity
stress reduced yield by 32.66%, 43.9% and 42.8% in V1, V2 and V3 respectively. So,
considering yield performance V1 variety is more tolerant to salinity than the other
tested variety

world. This study was conducted to assess the potential for salt tolerance of cowpea
genotypes during the germination and early vegetative growth. From the germination
test, twenty best performed genotypes were grown at 0, 4, 8 and 12 dS/m at
greenhouse of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Gazipur. The experiment
was laid out in two factors Complete Randomized Design with two replications.
Factor A was twenty cowpea genotypes and Factor B was four NaCl concentrations.
From the result, it was found that TVU-2398 and TVU-1330 showed the highest
SPAD value (53.1 and 53.62 SPAD unit). In the leaf, the highest Na
was found in
TVU-1330 (0.206%) and K

in TVU-2398 (0.24%) and TVU-1330 (0.242%). In case
of stem, the highest Na

FOOD SECURITY STATUS OF FISHING HOUSHOLDS IN KISHOREGANJ

AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICSFood security is mostly important for all the living people especially in the
rural or under developed area where people are not conscious about food and
nutrition. The study briefs out the existing issues of food security in haor area
of Nikli Upzila. The overall objectives of this study were to examine the
present socioeconomic status of the fishing household, which factors were
constraints for food security and identified the problems of accessing foods in
Nikli Upazila of Kishoreganj district. A total of 110 sample respondents were
interviewed by using simple random sampling techniques. Both descriptive
and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Socioeconomic status
and problems faced by the respondents were assessed by using descriptive
statistics and presented in tabular form. The extent of dietary diversity which
was used to assess the food security status was assessed using descriptive
statistics also. The factor determining the food security status of the small
scale fishing community at Nikli Upazila was assessed using binary logistic
regression analysis. After analyzing the respondent data, result showed that
the average family size of sample households was 5.32 and 69.09 % of the
survey respondents were found to have no education. Besides among the
respondents 59.09 % hold yearly income from BDT 160000-190000. After
analyzing, it was found majority of the expenditure spent on food items which
hold 55.3 % of total cost. The result showed that age of the respondent, food
expenditure, education, access to information having loan were significant
factors those affect food security status of the fishing households. Various
issues like climate change, population growth, increasing cost of food,
uncontrolled market etc. were found to be encountered by respondents in the
research region when attempting to obtain food. The respondents ranked the
increasing cost of food items as the most serious problem among the six
challenges. Therefore, it is highly needed to emphasis government support to
ensure the food security
CLYBIO CONCENTRATION ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF CABBAGE UNDER DIFFERENT COLORED SHADE NETS

physiological and yield parameters were taken in which all the treatments
showed significant variations. The use of white shade nets (Nw) provided with
better head length (16.0 cm), head diameter (55.7cm), single head weight (1.1
kg), and yield of 45.8 t/ha in comparison to other nets or no net use. Alongside,
the sole application of Clybio to cabbage as a 1000-fold liquid solution (C

resulted in maximum single head weight (0.8 kg), and yield of 33.3 t/ha while
the maximum head length (14.8 cm) was from 500-fold Clybio solution (C

PREVALENCE AND PROFILING OF ANTIBIOTIC SENSITIVITY OF A KEY PUBLIC HEALTH PLAYER ESCHERICHIA COLI FROM COMPANION ANIMAL IN DHAKA CITY

SEMESTER: JULY-DECEMBER 2019This study was conducted in order to isolate, identify and to profiling the status of
antibiotic sensitivity of the important public health organism Escherichia coli of
companion animal. A total of 30 fecal samples of cats and dogs were collected from two
different regions of Dhaka city, aseptically and inoculated onto various culture media for
isolation of E. coli. The microorganisms were isolated and identified by performing
cultural characteristics and biochemical tests. The study had been conducted based on
species, age, location and gender of host species. The prevalence of E. coli infection in
cat was 66.67% and in dog was 60.00%, respectively with same ratio of resistance in
male and female in dog whereas in cat female were more resistance than male. To
perform the disc diffusion method for profiling the antibiotic sensitivity, 10 commonly
used antibiotics were used. The highest rate of resistance was recorded in Metronidazole
(57.89%) and Amoxicillin (52.63%) followed by Co-trimoxazole (41.10%),
Ciprofloxacin (31.57%), Ceftriaxone (31.57%) and Azithromycin (26.31%). The highest
rate of sensitivity was recorded to Cefixime (52.63%) followed by Ciprofloxacin
(36.84%), Cefuroxime (36.84%) and Gentamicin (36.84%). Data from this study reveal
that companion animal like cat and dog carry multi-drug resistant E. coli sp. which can be
transferred to human and can cause a public health hazard
