INFLUENCE OF PHOSPHORUS FERTILIZATION AND SEED RATES ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF BLACK CUMIN (Nigella sativa L.)

and farm. The experiments were laid out in RCBD design with three replications. The

experiment. Different growth and yield contributing parameters were recorded to
determine the optimum dose of N and P for growing on rooftop and farm. The result

farm whereas, P₁ (36 kg P

, respectively] to evaluate their morpho-physiological and
growth performances. Low light stress [mainly 50% light intensity (S

) and 25% light
intensity (S

)] substantially reduced the germination rate, plant height, plant weight
(fresh and dry weight), leaves number, leaf length, leaf width, flowering dates, stem
diameter, photosynthetic performance (SPAD value) of different cauliflower varieties.
However, considering the obtained findings Snow white variety showed less negative
performance than the other varieties under shaded condition. So, among the tested
cauliflower varieties Snow white might be suitable for shaded condition with low light
intensities
BIOINFORMATIC ANALYSIS OF MITOCHONDRIAL GENOME OF HUMPED FEATHERBACK CHITAL FISH, Chitala chitala (HAMILTON, 1822)

SEMESTER: JULY-DECEMBER, 2021The present study was about the bioinformatic analysis of mitochondrial genome of an
endangered featherback fish, Chitala chitala. Although Chitala chitala plays significant role
in inland fishery, but its’ evolution has received little attention. In the current study, the
mitogenome of Chitala chitala was retrieved and investigated. Some of the bioinformatics tools
were applied to measure important gene parameters including AT/GC-skewness, codon
adaptation index (CAI), the effective number of codons (ENc) and GC percentages of each
protein coding gene. The majority of AT-skew and GC-skew values of all protein coding genes
of the species were negative, and the amplitude of the GC-skew was larger than the AT-skew.
On the basis of comparative selective strength analysis with the PCGs of two related
mitogenomes, I discovered that most of the PCGs retained the Ka/Ks ratios less than one
implying that they evolved under strong negative or purifying selection. Moreover, I analyzed
the codon frequency and relative synonymous codon usage (RSCU). Then, I identified a total
of 22 RSCU values (>1) and revealed 6 codons as “over-presented” that implied for codon
usage bias to engage in highly expressed genes for efficient protein synthesis via translational
selection. The phylogenetic tree and time tree were constructed by Maximum Likelihood (ML)
method, providing further supplement to the evolution of the fish. Regarding on the facts of
the presence of codon usage biasness rolling in translational selection and the signs of purifying
selection identified in PCGs indicate obvious conservation of this endangered fish species
YIELD MAXIMIZATION OF TOMATO (Solanum lycopersicum L.) BY IMPROVING SEEDLING CHARACTERS USING CHITOSAN RAW MATERIAL POWDER UNDER SILTY CLAY LOAM SOIL

SEMESTER: JANUARY-JUNE, 2021Chitosan is a natural biopolymer which stimulates seedlings growth, supply plant nutrients
and modifies growth, yield and yield attributes of plants as well as induces the immune
system of plants. A field experiment was conducted at the net-house of Sher-e-Bangla
Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207, during the period from November, 2019 to April,
2020 to study the yield maximization of tomato by improving seedling characters using
chitosan raw material powder under silty clay loam soil. The experiment was designed with
four treatments using three different levels of chitosan raw material powder in the seedbed
soil. The used treatments were: T

(0%), T
2
(0.1%), T
3
(0.5%), T
4
(1%). The experiment
was laid out in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with five replications. Result
revealed that application of chitosan raw material powder improving seedling characters
such as seedling height, seedling fresh weight, seedling oven dry weight and seedling
strength. Result also revealed that chitosan raw material powder increased plant
morphological character e.g. plant height, reproductive and yield attributes such as number
of flower bud/plant, fruits/plant and fruit yield over control. With increasing the doses of
chitosan raw material powder, most of the morphological, reproductive and yield attributes
were increased, whereas control plants showed the lowest value of the above parameters.
Most of the morphological, growth and reproductive attributes were recorded maximum in
the T
3
treatment. The experimental results revealed that treatment T
3
having 0.5% chitosan
raw material powder perform well and produced highest seedling height (15.1 cm),
maximum fresh weight/70 seedlings (65.28 g) and oven dry weight/70 seedlings (5.40 g),
seedling strength (5.09 mg/cm), highest plant height at 65 DAT (98.98 cm), number of
flower bud/plant at 65 DAT (252), minimum days for first flowering (34.80), minimum
days for 100 % flowering (39.80), no. of fruits/plant (44.93), average single fruit
weight/tomato (51.52 g), fruit yield (74.21 t/ha) and fruit yield over control (16.06%).The
experimental results also showed that soil organic carbon content, soil organic matter and
% total nitrogen was increased significantly with the application of chitosan raw material
powder in seedbed soil. The chitosan raw material powder also increased pH of the seedbed
soil. Taken together, the experiment results indicate that application of chitosan raw
material powder in seedbed soil have significant effect on the improvement of seedling
characters that maximize yield of BARI tomato-15
EFFECT OF MORINGA LEAF EXTRACT ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF TOMATO (Solanum lycopersicum L.)

SEMESTER: JULY-DECEMBER, 2021The experiment was carried out at Agroforestry Field Laboratory, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Dhaka-1207 during the period from January 2021 to April 2021 to find out “Effect of Moringa leaf extract on growth and yield of Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.)”. The pot experiment consisted of six treatments viz., T0, T1, T2, T3, T4, and T5 (control, 10 ml, 20ml, 30 ml, 40 ml, and 50 ml concentrations of Moringa leaf extract respectively). This experiment was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with four replications. In the case of growth parameters, the highest plant height (62.00 cm) and the number of leaf plant-1 (52) were observed in T5 whereas the lowest result was observed from T0 treatment with plant height (38.50 cm) and the number of leaf plant-1 (27). In terms of yield contributing parameters with Moringa leaf extract, T5 showed the lowest days (39 days) to 1st flowering whereas the highest days to 1st flowering were achieved from T0 treatment at 50 days. The highest fruit number plant-1 (24), individual fruit weight (65 g), and fruit yield ha-1 (70.2 t) was found in the treatment T5 while the lowest number of fruits per plant (8), individual fruit weight (44.78 g), fruit yield ha-1 (31.5 t) was obtained from T0 treatment. Different concentrations of Moringa leaf extract with Tomato plant had a strong positive relation with around all parameters. To base on observed data points, predicted that 50 ml concentrations of Moringa leaf extract will supply the optimum Tomato yield ha-1(70.2 t). This study indicates that the Moringa leaf extract used significantly increased the growth and yield of tomato plants in all the trials with fresh leaves, regular branching, healthy fruits, and regular flowering

A STUDY ON MARKETING CHANNEL, PROFITABILITY AND STORAGE FACILITY OF POTATO IN RANGPUR DISTRICT

SEMESTER: JANUARY-JUNE, 2021Present study was carried with a view to examine the channels of potato market from
farmers to consumers through various stages, determine the profitability of storing
potato in cold storage, estimate marketing margin factors affecting marketing margin,
identify the problems and suggest measures for its improvement. This study mainly
based on 110 samples, randomly selected from the study areas in Rongpur District.
The sample included 56 farmers, and 16 Beparies, 8 wholesalers/Arothers, and 20
retailers and 10 samples were selected from cold storage owners. Primary data were
collected during the month of September to October 2021. Secondary data were
collected from publications of different institutions including BBS. The study
indicates that marketable surplus of potato of the growers is around 88 percent of the
total production Various intermediaries participated in the potato marketing channels
were Bepari, wholesaler, Aroldher (commission agent), retailer and cold storage
owner. The study revealed that local marketing channel-1l consisted of Farmer Bepari
-Wholesaler Retailer- Consumer was the most efficient. Farmers' traditional
method of storing potato appears to be more economic in short term storage (three
months or less) and in long duration storage in cold storage (four to nine months) was
more effective. Potato storage loss was higher traditional method. It was found that
the storage loss were 6.8% and 4.37% for farmers and intermediaries in traditional
method, respectively. In case of cold storage method the storage loss was 2.6% for
both the farmers and intermediaries. The average net margins (profit) of Beparie,
wholesalers, and retailers were Tk. 29.11, Tk. 23.59, and Tk. 64.45 per quintal which
was 4.64%, 3.76% and 9.95% of total investment, respectively. Among the
intermediaries marketing margin was the highest in retailers and the lowest in
wholesalers. To identify the factors affecting marketing margin of intermediaries,
thirteen variables included in the multiple linear model which transportation cost,
storage cost, wastage/damage cost, loading and unloading cost, packaging cost,
commission cost, market toll cost, personal expenses cost, other marketing cost,
purchase price and sale price found statistically significant. The potato farmers and
intermediaries in the study area faced various types of marketing problems like low
price, price fluctuation. shortage of capital, high charge of cold storage, lack of
marketing facility, lack of proper grading, lack of adequate marketing information,
perish ability of potato etc. Increased credit facilities, improvement of transportation
facilities, providing extension services, ensuring better and incentive price policy,
establishment of processing industries and increased export by taking favorable export
policy would be helpful to solve the problems
OCCURRENCE OF ANTIBIOTIC RESIDUES IN POULTRY FEED AND CHICKEN MEAT WITH RISK CHARACTERIZATION

in poultry feed and chicken meat with risk characterization. To perform this
experiment, 5 samples of layer muscle, 5 samples of layer liver, 5 samples of broiler
muscle, 5 samples of broiler liver, 7 samples of local breed chicken muscle (control)
and three samples of local breed liver (control) were used. So, total 30 chicken
samples and
10 feed samples (5 samples of layer feed and 5 samples of broiler feed)
were collected from different poultry farm of Sirajganj and Gazipur district,
Bangladesh during the period from March 2020 to June, 2021. To detect Tetracycline
and Oxytetracycline residues, the collected chicken and feed samples were analyzed
using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence detector.
In this study, 2 Layer muscle samples, 3 layer liver samples, 2 Broiler muscle
samples and 2 Broiler liver samples were Tetracycline and Oxytetracycline positive
whereas control muscle and liver samples were negative. Among the collected feed
samples, 3 layer feed samples and 2 broiler feed samples were Tetracycline and
Oxytetracycline positive but the rest of the samples showed no residue. Results
showed that no chicken sample as well as no feed sample in the present study
exceeded the maximum residue limit (MRL) of Tetracycline and Oxytetracycline

Analysis of variances were done through CROPSTAT software and significant levels of
treatments were judged at 5% level of probability. The mean separation test was done by LSD
at 5% level of significance. Matrix ranking, and scoring were done for placing performances
of treatments in order by relating to the scores to the weight given to different data obtained
from parameters studied. Results revealed that BRRI dhan63 showed higher result than BRRI
dhan28 in respect of grain yield (6.11 t ha
-1
) as evidenced by the highest dry matter
accumulation (g) and lower unfilled grains panicle
-1
. As an individual effect of the
Nanoproduct, the highest grain yield (5.74 t ha

) was shown by T

due to reflection of the
