EFFECT OF DIFFERENT AMOUNTS AND COMBINATIONS OF SUBSTRATES ON YIELD AND CONTAMINATION OF SPAWN PACKET IN OYSTER MUSHROOM CULTIVATION (Pleurotus ostreatus)

2021 to study the effect of different amounts and combinations of substrates on
the productivity, contamination and cost benefit ratio of oyster mushroom
(Pleurotus ostreatus). The experiment was conducted with fifteen (15) different
type treatments which were controlled amount of waste paper alone and
combinations of waste paper and sawdust with three replications to achieve the
desire objectives. The experiment was laid out in single factor Completely
Randomized Design (CRD).Highest mycelium running rate (0.97 cm/day) was
recorded in T

provided with the highest biological yield (165.33 g), economic yield (162 g),
dry yield (11.44 g) and net returns (34.6 TK) but the highest of biological
efficiency (44.93%) was observed when 75% of waste paper was added to 25%
of sawdust to prepare 250g substrate. Trichoderma sp., Penecillium sp.,
Rhizopus stolonifer and Aspergillus niger were isolated and identified from
contaminated substrates. Contamination severity was highest in T

GROWTH AND YIELD OF KOHLRABI AS INFLUENCED BY ORGANIC AND CHEMICAL SOURCES OF POTASSIUM AND SEEDLING AGE AT TRANSPLANT

yield components and yield of kohlrabi and significant variation was observed for most
of the studied characters. Under this investigation, it was revealed that the highest yield

) with net return (Tk. 200,800) and BCR (2.09) was obtained from the
treatment combination K

(50% MoP + 50% vermicompost + 25 days age of
seedlings). On the other hand, the lowest yield (19.78 t ha

vermicompost + 20 days age of seedlings). So, economic analysis revealed that the K
treatment combination appeared to be best for achieving the higher growth, yield and

PREVALENCE OF SEED POTATO DISEASES IN DIFFERENT VARIETIES AVAILABLE IN MUNSHIGANJ DISTRICT OF BANGLADESH

PLANT PATHOLOGYDiseases prevalence of 19 different seed potato varieties were assessed in farmer’s
production land located in Munshiganj district of Bangladesh and laboratory works
were conducted in the central laboratory during October 2020 to March 2021. The
tested 19 varieties were collected from BADC and those were Prada, BARI Alu40,
Santana, BARI Alu-79, Innovator, Aluity, Diamant, Carollas, BARI Alu-41,
BARI alu-35, BARI alu-37, Queen Anne, Granola, Asterix, Labella, Sunshine,
Cardinal, Sagita, and Alkender. Data were collected on disease incidence, disease
severity, plant growth, and yield contributing characteristics. Four significant
diseases namely, early blight, late blight, PLRV and scab were identified. Causal
agent Alternaria solani and Phytophthora infestanc were isolated from early blight
and late blight infected leaves respectively. The highest early blight incidence
(75%) was recorded in BARI Alu-79, Diamant and Santana, and the lowest
incidence (55%) was recorded in Asterix and Sunshine after 75 DAS. The
maximum severity (39%) was observed in Aluity and Prada while the lowest (24%)
was observed in BARI Alu-40. The highest disease incidence (71.67%) of late
blight was recorded in cardinal and Asterix while incidence was minimum
(48.33%) in BARI Alu-41 and BARI Alu-79. The maximum severity (32.67%) was
in Cardinal and the minimum (22.33%) was observed in BARI Alu-40. In PLRV,
the highest incidence (85%) was in Labella and the lowest (23.33%) was in BARI
Alu-79. The severity was the highest (34.33%) in Sagita with Labella and lowest
(11%) was in BARI Alu-79. In common scab, the highest incidence (35.48%) and
severity (17.85%) was observed in Diamant. However, the lowest incidence
(5.52%) and severity (1.38%) were formed in Prada and Carollas variety. The
highest frequency of grade C (<28mm) tuber (53.79%) was produced by Cardinal,
B2 (28-44mm) tuber (57.78%) by BARI Alu-79, B1 (45-55mm) tuber (60.17%) by
Innovator and A (>55mm) tuber (5.81%) by Aluity and BARI Alu-79. The counted
number of tubers hill
-1
was maximum (18.17%) in Cardinal and the lowest (5.63%)
in Carollas followed by Aluity (5.74%), Prada (6.11%). The maximum weight
(785.6 g) of tubers per hill was found to be in BARI Alu-40 followed by Sunshine
(759.87 g). The lowest weight (287.05g) of tubers hill

was observed in BARI Alu79
followed
by
Diamant
(384.14g). Most significantly, BARI Alu-40 was found
free of PLRV and scab while being less susceptible to early blight and late blight.

EFFECTS OF POTASSIUM AND BORON ON THE GROWTH AND YIELD OF CHILI (Capsicum annuum L.)

(Tejgoan soil series under AEZ 28) during Rabi season of October 2019-March 2020 to
evaluate the effect of potassium (K) and boron (B) on the growth and yield of chili
(Capsicum annuum L.). Two factor experiment with three rates of K (0, 75 and 100 kg K

) and three rates of B (0, 1.5 and 3 kg B ha

) was laid out in the Randomized
Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replication. Application of K and B
significantly influenced the number of leaves plant

USE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES (ICTs) BY FLOWER FARMERS OF JASHORE DISTRICT

SEMESTER: JANUARY-JUNE, 2019The study was conducted to determine the extent of use of ICTs by the flower farmers
and to determine the extent to which the selected factors influence their use of ICTs for
production and market-related information in selected areas of Jhikargacha upazila
under Jashore district. Three unions namely Panisara, Godkhali, Nabharan of
Jhikargacha upazila were randomly selected as the research area. Data were collected
from 106 randomly selected flower farmers from the study areas, through personal
interview by the researcher himself during 20 December, 2020 to 27 February, 2021.
Data were analyzed by Multiple Regression analysis using SPSS 23.0. Data indicates
that the highest proportion (45.3%) of the flower farmers moderate use ICT based
applications, while (35.85%) had less ICT based applications and less than one-fifth
(18.9%) had high use of ICT based applications for their flower production and market
related information. Results indicates that annual family income, extension media
contact, ICT ownership and ICT use skill were significantly contributed to their use of
ICTs while age, level of education, farm size, family member, organizational
participation, perceived benefit use were found non-significant predictors of ICTs use.
All the factors jointly explained 74.3% (R
2
= 0.743) of the variances of the dependent
variable. Thus, the study concludes with the recommendation to enable favorable
environment to promote use of ICT based applications in receiving flower production
and market related information
INFLUENCE OF CUTTING MANAGEMENT ON GROWTH, GRAIN AND FODDER YIELD OF DIFFERENT CEREALS

AGRONOMYThe experiment was conducted at the research field of the department of Agronomy,
Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University during the period from November, 2019 to
March, 2020 for assessing cutting management effects on growth and yield
performance of different cereals. The experiment comprised of two factors viz. factor
A: Cutting (3); i) Uncut - C₁, ii) One cut at 25 Dates After Sowing (DAS) - C₂ and iii)
Two cuts at 25 DAS and 61 DAS - C₃; factor B: Crops (4), i) Wheat - G₁, ii) Triticale -
G₂, iii) Barley - G₃ and iv) Oat - G₄. This experiment was laid out in a randomized
complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Significant differences were
observed among different cutting management with respect to yield and yield
attributing parameters of cereal crops. A yield advantages of 0.55 t ha⁻¹ and 1.45 t ha⁻¹
over C₂ (One cut at 25 DAS) and C₃ (Two cuts at 25 DAS and 61 DAS), respectively
was found which was possibly aided by the tallest plant at 80 DAS (105.79 cm), the
highest number of tillers m⁻² (67.54), the maximum number of leaves plant⁻¹ at 80 DAS
(22.27), maximum leaf area index at 80 DAS (11.06), the highest fresh weight at 80
DAS (101.00 g), highest dry weight at 80 DAS (39.41 g), the maximum number of
grains spike⁻¹ (54.42), the highest weight of grains spike⁻¹ (3.49 g), the longest spike
(18.87 cm), the highest straw yield (7.23 t ha⁻¹) and the highest biological yield (12.48
t ha⁻¹) in the C₁ (No cut) treatment. The result revealed that oat (G₄) exhibited its
superiority to other tested cereal crop that out-yielded over Triticale (G₂) and Barley
(G₃) by 35.59% and 16.00% higher yield, respectively. Oat (G₄) also showed the tallest
plant at 80 DAS (107.19 cm), the highest number of tillers m⁻² (77.25), the maximum
number of leaves plant⁻¹ at 80 DAS (21.92), maximum leaf area index at 80 DAS
(13.86), the highest fresh weight at 80 DAS (90.55 g), the highest dry weight at 80 DAS
(34.12 g), the maximum number of grains spike⁻¹ (56.66), the lowest number of unfilled
grains spike⁻¹ (2.35), the highest weight of grains spike⁻¹ (3.29 g), the longest spike
(26.91 cm), the highest straw yield (10.15 t ha⁻¹) and the highest biological yield (15.75
t ha⁻¹) than other tested cereal crops in this experiment. Among the interactions, C₁G₄
and C₂G₄ were superior in most of the growth, yield attributes and fodder production
along with grain yield and yield parameters along with higher amount of fodder
production. From the result of the experiment, it may be concluded that oat cut once at
25 DAS seemed promising as dual-purpose crop in Bangladesh
USE OF MECHANIZATION BY THE RICE GROWERS

AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION AND INFORMATION SYSTEMMechanization is a process through which agricultural activities can be
improved and desired crop production can be achieved. The objectives of this
study were to assess the use of mechanization by the farmers, to describe the
selected characteristics of the farmers and to identify the contributory factors
on use of mechanization. The selected characteristics were age, education,
farm size, family size, annual family income, no of plots, no of crops grown,
time spend in farms and extension media contact. The study was undertaken
in Rangpur sadar upazila under Rangpur district. Validated and wellstructured
interview
schedule
was
used
to
collect
data.
The
statistical
measures
such
as
range,
means,
standard
deviation,
number
and
percentage
distribution
were
used
to
describe
the
selected
independent
variables.
Regression
analysis
was
used in order to explore the contributing relationships between the
concerned variables. The findings of the study showed that, 38.5% and 61.5%
had low and medium level use of mechanization. The findings also implies
that annual family income, time spend in farm and extension media contact
had significant positive relationship with their use of mechanization. The
findings may help to formulate better policies towards increase the use of
machineries in rice cultivation

related with agriculture. But due to low knowledge on agricultural operation or
modern agricultural machineries operation the farmer faced huge loss on crop
production. That’s why the modern agricultural machineries need in agriculture
sector to increase crop production. The modern machineries use in agricultural
operation is called mechanization. The purpose of the study was to describe the
selected socioeconomic characteristic of the farmers; to determine the extent of
farmers’ knowledge on agricultural machineries; and to explore the relationship of
the selected characteristics of farmers on their knowledge on modern agricultural
machineries. The study was undertaken purposely in Roumari Upazila under
Kurigram district. Validated and well-structured interview schedule was used to
collect data from 110 farmers. Data were collected by a pre tested interview
schedule during 16 jun 2022 to 15 july 2022. Simple and direct questions with
different scales were used to obtain information. Descriptive statistics, multiple corelation
were
used
for
the
analysis
of
collected
data.
The
majority
47.72
percent
of
the
respondents
had
low
knowledge
followed
by
21.81
percent
had
high
knowledge
and
35.45 percent of the farmers had medium knowledge on agricultural
machineries. Among 10 selected characteristics of the farmers 6 characteristics
namely, education, quantity of modern machinery, attitude of farmers towards using
modern agricultural machinery, annual family income, training exposure and
extension media contact, had positive significant relationship with their knowledge
on modern agricultural machineries but rest of four namely age, farm size,
experience in farming, organizational participation had no significant relationship
with their knowledge on modern agricultural machinery. Findings leads to
conclusion that farmers’ socioeconomic characteristics are important for acquiring
knowledge on modern agricultural machineries and concerned authority should
consider these characteristics to take necessary steps for improving knowledge of
farmers on modern agricultural machineries
