MORPHO-PHYSIOLOGICAL RESPONSES OF Moringa oleifera SEEDLINGS IN RESPONSE TO SALT STRESS

productivity worldwide, including the growth and development of moringa plants.
Understanding the responses of moringa to salt stress is crucial for developing effective
strategies to mitigate the negative effects and improve plant resilience. A polybag
experiment was conducted at the agroforestry farm of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural
University, Dhaka during May 2022 to August 2022 to examine the establishment of
Moringa seedling under salt stress. This was a single factor experiment: Salinity. The

Effect of feeding cinnamon and garlic as an alternative to antibiotic on growth performance and carcass characteristics in broiler
ABSTRACT
The experiment was conducted to evaluate the potential of feeding cinnamon and garlic on growth
performance, carcass yield and immune parameters in commercial broiler. A total of 225 one-day-old
Lohman meat (Indian river) broiler chicks have an average body weight of 40±0.50 g were divided into
5 dietary treatment groups. The treatments were T0= control (basal feed), T1= basal feed + antibiotic,
T2= basal feed + 0.2% cinnamon, T3= basal feed + 0.2% garlic and T4= basal feed + 0.2% cinnamon +
0.2% garlic. The average live weight and body weight gain were significantly (P<0.05) increased in the
0.2% cinnamon + 0.2% garlic treated group compared with others. Improved FCR was observed in
birds fed a combined addition of 0.2% cinnamon and 0.2% garlic with the basal diet than the other
treatment groups. All the supplemented group significantly increased the proportion of breast meat
compared to control, while wing and back meat was higher in the T2, T3 and T4 supplemented group
compared to T0 and T1 group (P<0.05). Dietary supplementation of T2, T3 and T4 also increased the
weight of liver, heart, neck, gizzard and giblet (P<0.05). Dietary supplementation of T1, T2, T3 and T4
significantly reduced the concentration of blood WBC and Granulocyte. Taken together, it can be
concluded that the use of 0.2% cinnamon and 0.2% garlic in broiler diet separately or combined
resulted in improved growth performance, carcass yields, and immunity in broiler chickens and
therefore can be recommended as alternatives to antibiotics
DETERMINANTS OF INTERNAL MIGRATION AND ITS IMPACT ON HOUSEHOLD INCOME IN SOME SELECTED AREAS OF BANGLADESH

DEVELOPMENT AND POVERTY STUDIESRural-urban migration is a prevalent demographic occurrence observed in developing
nations. Among the South Asian countries, Bangladesh has experienced the most
substantial urbanization rate over the past forty years, largely fueled by the movement
of people from rural to urban areas. This form of migration brings significant
economic and social consequences for individuals residing in both the rural regions
and the urban destinations. The main objective of this study was to explore the
determinants of rural-urban migration and its impact on household income for analyze
the socio-economic condition of migrants and non-migrants. Focusing on the Bogura
and Gaibandha districts, the researcher collected primary data from 80 rural
households, with 40 identified as migrants and 40 as non-migrants. A structured
interview schedule was used for data collection from January to June 2022. The study
employs a binary Probit regression model to identify the determinants of migration
and an Ordinary Least Square (OLS) model to assess the impact of migration on
household income. The results from the probit model revealed that, gender, earning
members, member of societal group and receiving training had a positive impact on
migration decision and household size of the family had a negative impact on
migration decision. Based on the findings from OLS model, migration had a positive
and significant impact on household income. The findings revealed that, migrant
households have an income that is 42.2 percent higher than non-migrant households.
Finally, the findings will shed light on the dynamics of migration and its relationship
with household income, emphasizing the need to consider multiple factors when
analyzing migration patterns and their consequences

AGRIBUSINESS & MARKETINGThe jute industry has played an important role in the national economy at different times
despite facing several problems. Jute is one of the most versatile natural fibers that has
been used in raw materials for packaging, textiles, non- textile, construction and
agricultural sectors. This study will provide core information on the profitability of two
jute varieties (Robi-1 & JRO 524) in Faridpur district. Some economic investigations
have conducted on the two jute varieties to identify which variety is more profitable. In
total, 100 jute farmers and 60 jute traders were selected purposively for the study. Two
villages from bhangga Upazila were purposively selected for this study. Primary data
were collected using a face-to-face interviewing method. A structured interview
schedule with both closed and open form questions was prepared. Primary data were
collected during February to March 2022 through field survey. Descriptive statistics
were used to analyze the data. Major market actors of jute were farmers, Faria, Bepari,
Aratdar, Kutcha baler and Pucca baler in the study area. The result of the study showed
that, total cost of producing Robi-1 jute production was found Tk. 94791.78/ha and net
revenue from Robi-1 was Tk.91373.84/ha. Total cost of producing JRO 524 jute
production was found Tk. 96311.05/ha and net revenue from JRO 524was Tk.
207913.13/ha.The average total profit was found tk. 79.79, tk 10.38, tk 33.51, tk 50.26,
and tk 63.47for Faria, Bepari , Aratdar, Kutcha baler and Pucca baler respectively. The
study identified that producing JRO 524 jute variety is more profitable than Robi-1 jute
variety for farmers in Faridpur district. The study found that the major problem of jute
production was high interest rate and farmers need capital with low interest rate

harvester user and non-user rice farmers in the selected district of Bangladesh. The
study was undertaken purposively in Rajbari sadar upazila under Rajbari district.
Validated and well-structured interview schedule (questionnaire) was used to collect
data from 80 rice cultivators during 1st January 2022 to 30 January, 2022. Per
hectare gross return of rice cultivators was Tk. 165128 for combine harvester users
and Tk. 159998 for combine harvester non-users, respectively. Per hectare gross
margin were found to be Tk. 66807 for combine harvester users and Tk. 41508 for
combine harvester non-users, respectively. Total net returns were estimated as Tk.
39661 and Tk. 13353 for combine harvester users and non-users per hectare,
respectively. Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR) were found to be 1.32 and 1.09 for combine

HEAVY METALS IN POTATO CHIPS AND MANGO JUICE AVAILABLE IN DHAKA CITY

AGRICULTURAL CHEMISTRYThis study determined the heavy metal contents of ten mango juice samples and ten potato
chips samples. The samples were collected from the Dhanmondi and Mirpur area of Dhaka,
Bangladesh. Five mango Juice and five potato chips, total ten samples were collected from
Dhanmondi and another five mango juice and five potato chips samples were collected from
Mirpur. In order to determine the concentrations of heavy metals (Cd, Cr & Pb) in 20
samples sold under different brand names and readily available in Dhaka, Atomic
Absorption spectrophotometer, AAS-Analytik Jena 400P was utilized. Lead was present
beyond safety limit in samples number 3 and 4 but in number 10, almost reached the safety
limit, Sample number 11, which was mango juice collected from Dhanmondi, contained lead
just below the safety limit and the values were respectively 0.11 mg/L, 0.17 mg/L and 0.09
mg/L. This result showed that in the case of lead, potato chips contained more lead than
mango juice. Alternatively in potato chips, chromium was found in sample 3 collected from
Dhanmondi crossed the safety limit. Meanwhile mango juice sample number 16 almost
reached the safety limit and in number 17 also crossed the safe limit, both were collected
from Mirpur area and values were subsequently 1.05 mg/L, 0.94 mg/L and 1.41 mg/L. The
result showed that mango juice had more chromium than potato chips. However, no
cadmium was found in the samples, all were below the detection limit. Lead, chromium, and
cadmium can be harmful, especially for children. Therefore, the presence above the
permitted limit is alarming. Mango juice and potato chips are highly well-liked snacks
among young people, especially kids. However, the health risks shown in the study,
discovered that the makers need to be more careful in removing this dangerous ingredient.
Additionally, the guardian needs to be extra watchful. Consumers and food safety authorities
can utilize these findings improve the quality these food products. For covid-19 situation,
the research work was done with limited resources as the number of collected samples was
less in number and also the number of targeted heavy metals was limited
Phosphorus dose and potassium source on yield and export quality of potato : Improving processing quality of potato

Optimum utilization of specific plant nutrients can improve quality. The experiment was conducted to evaluate the best dose(s) of phosphorus in combination with potassium sources as they affect potato tuber quality. The experiment consisted the factors: phosphorus dose(4); P1 = 200 kg ha-1 TSP @ 42.55 kg ha-1 P; P2 = 220 kg ha-1 TSP @ 46.81 kg ha-1 P, P3 = 240 kg ha-1 TSP @ 51.06 kg ha-1 P and P4 = 260 kg ha-1 TSP @ 55.32 kg ha-1 P, and potassium sources (3); K1= KCl (250 kg ha-1 KCl @130 kg ha-1 K), K2 = KH2PO4 (452.19 kg ha-1 KH2PO4 @130 kg ha-1 K) and K3 = K2SO4 (288.6 kg ha-1 K2SO4 @130 kg ha-1 K). The interaction of phosphorus doses and potassium sources affected most parameters studied. The highest yield (35.35 t ha-1), caned (10.35 t ha-1), chips (28.06 t ha-1), and French fry (0.367 t ha-1) were from P3K2, P4K2, P3K2, P3K1 respectively; the lowest yield (30.90 t ha-1), caned (5.59 t ha-1) and chips (20.01 t ha-1) were from P1K3, P4K1, P1K3 respectively. The highest dry matter (22.85%), starch (17.936%), antioxidant (630.12 Trolox μMol/100 g FW), and polyphenol (92.994 GA mg/100 g FW) were from P1K3; the lowest reducing sugar (0.1713 mg g-1 FW) and non-reducing sugar (0.3290 mg g-1 FW) were from P1K3. It appeared that 200 kg ha-1 TSP @ 42.55 kg ha-1 P as a dose of phosphorus and K2SO4 as sources of potassium may be a suitable combination to produce export and processing quality potato
