of boron had significant influence on most of the growth, yield and yield contributing
characters and seed quality of groundnut. In case of combined effect of zinc and foliar

pileus (9.15 cm), thickness of pileus (2.75 mm), diameter of pileus (6.92 cm), biological
yield (275.40 g), economic yield (259.47 g), dry yield (61.89 g), biological efficiency
(64.13%) and benefit cost ratio (3.37). In case of spawning method, the highest mycelium
running rate (0.66 cm), number of fruiting body per packet (24.88), weight of individual
fruiting body (3.02 g), length of pileus (9.68 cm), thickness of pileus (2.63 mm), diameter
of pileus (5.56 cm), biological yield (262.99 g), economic yield (237.46 g), dry yield (56.71
g), biological efficiency (67.76%) and benefit cost ratio (3.62) was recorded from M
3
treatment. In case of combined effects, highest number of fruiting body per packet (24.83),
length of pileus (9.74 cm), thickness of pileus (2.87 mm), diameter of pileus (7.22 cm),

POPULATION SELECTION IN F 3 AND BACKCROSS GENERATION OF Brassica rapa L.

GENETICS AND PLANT BREEDINGAt the experimental field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in Dhaka, an
experiment was undertaken from November 2021 to February 2022 with 46
populations of Brassica rapa L. (38 F

populations), to estimate genetic
variability, correlation, heritability, genetic advance, and direct and indirect effects of
different traits for seed yield contributing traits. The analysis of variance exhibited
significant variations in all the attributes among all populations. Days to first
flowering, number of primary branches per plant, days to 80% maturity, siliqua length,
and thousand seed weight exhibited the least difference between genotypic and
phenotypic variance, indicating that the environment less influences these traits. The
number of secondary branches per plant, the number of siliquae per plant, number of
seeds per siliqua, and seed yield per plant however, were found to have high genotypic
and phenotypic coefficients of variation. Days to first flowering, days to 80% maturity,
number of secondary branches per plant, number of seeds per siliqua, siliqua length,
and thousand seed weight all showed high heritability with low genetic advance which
could further be improved by subsequent generation advancing. Number of secondary
branches per plant, number of siliquae per plant, number of seeds per siliqua, and
thousand seed weight showed high heritability along with high genetic advance in
percentage of mean. In breeding program, heritability accompanied by higher genetic
advance as percentage of mean is considered useful in identifying high yielding
genotypes. According to a correlation study, at both the phenotypic and genotypic
levels, seed yield per plant was positively and significantly associated with days to
80% maturity, plant height, number of primary and secondary branches per plant,
number of siliquae per plant, and siliqua length. Through path coefficient analysis, it
was found that there was a direct positive effect on seed yield per plant in terms of
days to 50% flowering, days to 80% maturity, number of primary branches per plant,
number of secondary branches per plant, number of siliquae per plant, siliqua length,
and number of seeds per siliqua. Characters like days to 80% maturity, plant height,
number of primary branches per plant, number of secondary branches per plant,
number of siliquae per plant, siliqua length, number of seeds per siliqua, and seed
yield per plant would be considered while making the selection process. Among 46

GROWTH AND YIELD OF BORO RICE AS AFFECTED BY FERTILIZER MANAGEMENT

SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS AND DETERMINANTS OF THE PARTICIPATION OF THE FARMERS IN SERICULTURE: A STUDY IN RAJSHAHI DISTRICT

DEVELOPMENT AND POVERTY STUDIESSericulture is an agrarian small-scale farming that benefits both marginal and small
landholders, generates profits, and creates employment to family members. Previous
research found that socioeconomic status of silkworm cocoon producers has a significant
impact on their understanding and acceptance of mulberry and cocoon production strategies.
In this context, a study has been conducted in Rajshahi district of Bangladesh to know the
socioeconomic status of sericulture farmers. Information for the current inquiry was
gathered from 90 farmers in three upazilas through formal discussion and an interview
schedule. According to the study, most of the farmers who responded had small families,
and relatively few had medium-sized and large families. The majority of farmers had
completed elementary and high school, and very few had completed college. Notably, the
majority of farmers showed minimal interest in social activities. A significant number of
farmers participated in meetings, field trips, farmer training sessions, demonstrations,
exhibitions, field days, and educational tours in relation to extension activities. The findings
indicate that sericulture farmers in Rajshahi face various challenges, including limited
access to credit, inadequate training, and extension services, and low market prices.
Furthermore, government policies and programs aimed at improving the socio-economic
status of sericulture farmers have been limited in their impact. Based on the findings, this
study recommends that sericulture farmers in Rajshahi be provided with better access to
credit, training, and extension services. Additionally, policies and programs aimed at
improving the market conditions for sericulture products should be prioritized. This research
concludes that addressing these challenges can enhance the socioeconomic status of
sericulture farmers in Rajshahi and improve the sustainability of the sericulture industry in
the region
EFFECT OF BIOFERTILIZER, FARM-YARD MANURE AND VERMICOMPOST ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF LENTIL

ROLE OF MICROCREDIT IN RICE AND ONION PRODUCTION: A STUDY IN SELECTED VILLAGES IN GOPALGANJ DISTRICT OF BANGLADESH

DEVELOPMENT AND POVERTY STUDIESThis study examines the purposes of microcredit use and it‟s role in income
generating activities in selected villages of the Gopalganj district in Bangladesh. The
research objectives include exploring the socio-demographic status of microcredit
users, identifying the purposes of microcredit use, and calculating the role of
microcredit in income generation. Primary data was collected within January to June
of 2022 from 90 rural households using a structured interview schedule, focusing on
the utilization of microcredit in the onion and rice sectors. The findings reveal that
microcredit was predominantly used for onion cultivation and rice production,
indicating its significant support for agricultural activities. The benefit cost ratio
(BCR) analysis demonstrates that onion farming yielded higher profitability compared
to rice farming. Therefore, the study concludes that both rice and onion farming
sectors are profitable. Farmers using microcredit in onion farming are being the most
profitable. Recommendations include encouraging farmers to use microcredit for
onion production, lowering the interest rates of microcredit to enhance benefits for
borrowers, and improving the financial management skills of microcredit recipients
through training and skill development activities. Overall, this study underscores the
positive impact of microcredit in enabling income generation and improving
livelihoods in the study area
