PLANT PATHOLOGYThe present investigation was initiated to evaluate the effects of plant extracts
(neem leaf extract, garlic bulb extract, mahogany bark extract) and cultural
practices (aluminium foil as reflective mulch, coriander as intercrop, marigold as
border crop) for the management of cucumber mosaic viral disease of capsicum.
The experiment was carried out at the research field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural
University from November 2020 to April 2021. During the investigation, visual
symptom observation and serological test, DAS-ELISA, confirmed that Cucumber
mosaic virus (CMV) had infected capsicum and various types of symptoms like a
mosaic, shoestring leaf, vein banding and stunted growth were observed in the
field. The highest CMV incidence and severity were found on T
0
(control), 75%
and 45% respectively, whereas the lowest CMV incidence (8.33%) and severity
(22.30%) was observed on T
4
(neem leaf extract). The tallest plants (35.75 cm)
were found in T
5
(aluminium foil as reflective mulch) and the shortest plants were
seen in T
0
(control), 30.33 cm. The maximum number of healthy leaves were
observed in T
5
(aluminium foil as reflective mulch) whereas the lowest number
healthy leaves were found in T
0
(control). The lowest infected leaves and
minimum leaf area reduction (24.33%) was observed in T

(neem leaf extract)
compared to T

(control). Yield attributes were highest in T

reflective mulch) which were the highest number of fruits per plant (13.33),

(control). A significant decrease in the number of aphids per leaf

treatments. The correlation-regression analysis established that there was a positive
correlation between CMV incidence and severity. Total yield negatively correlated
with CMV incidence (%) and severity (%) with 74.2% and 95.7% yield reduction
due to an increase of CMV incidence and severity, respectively
COMPARATIVE PROFITABILITY AND RESOURCE USE EFFICIENCY BETWEEN ROSE AND GLADIOLUS CULTIVATION IN SAVAR UPAZILA OF DHAKA DISTRICT

AGRICULTURAL ECONOMICSThe floriculture sector is rapidly growing and extremely competitive. This research
summarizes the current conditions and procedures for cultivation and marketing used by
dealers and farmers of cut flowers. The major goals of the current study were to determine
market integration of cut flowers in different market in Dhaka, as well as to analyses
profitability and variables impacting the cultivation of cut flowers (rose and gladiolus
growers). In Dhaka district, Savar upazila were chosen for the study due to the area's
extensive cut-flower farming. Data from 77 sample farmers were gathered using a multi-stage
random sampling approach and an interview schedule. Following data analysis, the per-
hectare costs for roses, gross returns, gross margins, and net returns were Tk. 576861, Tk.
808492, Tk. 433775, and Tk. 231631, respectively, while the costs for gladiolus were Tk.
576703, Tk. 1005231, Tk. 640789, and Tk. 428528, respectively. Benefit cost ratios for the
cultivation of roses, and gladiolus were 1:1.40 and 1:1.74, respectively, on a full cost basis.
They were 1:2.15 and 1:2.75 on a cash cost basis. Despite the fact that producing roses and
gladiolus was quite profitable. About to 92% of farmers who grow roses and 96% of farmers
who cultivate gladiolus, respectively, inadequate cold storage and seasonality in demand
were the main obstacles for farmers. The resources use efficiency, seed, urea, TSP are
underutilize for both rose and gladiolus cultivation human labor and gypsum are over utilize
for both this flower cultivation. Finds of suggest that, rose growers require a high yielding
rose variety to increase per unit productivity. Therefore, it is essential to prioritize
government assistance for ensuring farmers receive a fair price as well as technology
diffusion initiatives

INVESTIGATION OF VITAMINS AND SELENIUM ON PRODUCTION AND REPRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE OF INDIGENOUS PIGEON

POULTRY SCIENCEToday the use of insecticides, pesticides, etc. in the crop field and the unavailability of
croplands due to urbanization causes a major threat to pigeon farming in the extensive
system. So, now it is time to give attention to commercial farming through the intensive
method of pigeon housing. The goal of this research work was to investigate the
vitamins and selenium on the growth and reproductive performance of indigenous Gola
pigeon in the confinement-rearing system. A total of 16 pair of (3-month-old) pigeons
for a period of 9 month were used in the experiment. Pigeons were randomly distributed
into 4 treatment groups; T

(Basal diet + Vitamin A, D, E & Se), T

(Basal
diet + Vitamin B-complex) and T

(Basal diet + Vitamin A, D, E & Se + Vitamin Bcomplex)

In
this
study,
feed
intake
(FI)
and
live
weight
(LW)
at
23
week
showed
no
significant
differences
(P>0.05)
among
the
treatments.
However,
significant
differences
(P<0.05)
were
found
for
LWG
and
the
growth
rate
of
pigeons
at
12
to
23
week
of
age.
The
highest
LWG
and
growth
rate
were
observed
in
the
T
3
group
(87.75g and 34.23%) which was treated with vitamins A, D, E, Se and B-complex,
whereas the lowest was in the T
2
group. No significant differences (P>0.05) were
observed in various treatments for the following parameters; egg production, egg
weight, hatchability and hatch percentage. But the highest hatchability (90.63%) was
noticed in the T
2
groups. There was no significant difference (P>0.05) observed for the
day-old weight of the squab. However, significant differences (P<0.05) were found in
weekly live weight (LW), live weight gain (LWG), weekly growth rate (GR) and
dressing percentage (DP) of squab due to different supplementations. The highest LW
noticed in the T
3
group was 159.35, 218.34 and 274.05g, respectively for the 1
and 3
rd
week of squab. The maximum growth rate of squab was detected in the 1
week,
followed by the 2
nd
and 3
rd
weeks of age. Maximal DP was found in T
3
(61.90%) and
then followed by T
0
(61.54%), T
1
(59.86%) and T
2
(58.13%) groups. Whereas
survivability rate and FCR were not significantly influenced (P>0.05) by different
treatment groups. Yet, better FCR (4.36) was obtained in the vitamins A, D, E, Se and
B-complex treated group than in other supplemental groups. Analyzing the above
research findings, it was obtained that pigeons fed with vitamins A, D, E, Se and Bcomplex

EFFECT OF CINNAMON AND GARLIC ON GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND CARCASS CHARACTERISTICS OF BROILER

ANIMAL NUTRITIONThe aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of feeding cinnamon and garlic on
growth performance and carcass characteristics of broiler. The experiment was
conducted by applying different levels of cinnamon and garlic with commercial
broiler feed. A total of 180 one day-old of Lohmann Meat (Indian River) broiler
chicks were purchased from Kazi farms hatchery, Gazipur, Dhaka. In the experiment
broilers were randomly allocated into four treatments and a control group. Each
dietary treatment consisted of 3 replications having 12 broilers in each of the
replication. The dietary treatment consisted for 4 weeks and the treatment of various
groups consisted as control (T

) and the other four treatments were T

(basal feed +
antibiotics), T

(basal feed + 0.2% cinnamon), T

PURITY ANALYSIS OF IMIDACLOPRID INSECTICIDE COLLECTED FROM JESSORE DISTRICT BY ULTRA HIGH-PERFORMANCE LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY (UHPLC) WITH PHOTO DIODE ARRAY DETECTOR

AGRICULTURAL CHEMISTRYThe present study introduces a UHPLC method that is simple, specific, and accurate
in measuring the active component imidacloprid in the 20SL formulation. The
analytical separation was conducted using a Waters Cortecs C18 column using
an ultraviolet photodiode array (UV-PDA) detector at a wavelength of 272 nm. The
method's validation results showed that the suggested method has good specificity
with satisfactory linearity (R
2
≥ 0.9994), short retention time, and peak area precision.
The method's accuracy and precision revealed a significant recovery (98.9 - 101.2%)
at the three-spiked level with excellent precision (less than 1.89% RSD). The
chromatographic separation took around 5 minutes to complete under the established
chromatographic conditions. The developed and validated method was used to
determine the purity of mostly used and available of seven (7) selected imidacloprid
marketed brands insecticide from twenty one (21) samples. The samples were
collected from sadar upazilla of Jessore district during September 2021 and then the
samples were carried to the food safety laboratory of the Sher-e-Bangla
Agricultural University, Dhaka on the same sampling day. Among 7 different
brands of imidacloprid insecticide samples, 5 (71.43%) were found 110-130% pure
which means over standard of active ingredient (AI). Whereas one of the total tested
brand was 80-90% pure, and the remaining one brand was below 10% pure. This
means that farmers are using imidacloprid having either higher or less of AI than
required. This study reflects the small scale scenario of the presence of AI in different
marketed brands of imidacloprid insecticide, which will help the policy maker to be
aware of quality control importance of the plant protection products
