Divorce in Doris Lessing : Can Separation Make Women Free?
Unlike most of the noteworthy feminist authors, Doris Lessing has moved away from the traditional way of feminist claim against the sexist society. She is different from the other feminists as she goes deep into the crisis of women and reflects realistically on their problematic position in the society. Her idea of “free women” is itself paradoxical. Divorce can make a woman free from the torture and exploitation of unsuccessful married life; however, Lessing observes that divorce results in insecurity, isolation and sexual dissatisfaction. This article attempts to discuss Lessing‟s concept of divorce and its impact on women, her idea of sisterhood and above all, the relationship between man and woman. It also aims at making a parallel between Lessing‟s views of divorce with Quranic view of divorce. In conclusion it establishes that the relation between women and men is undeniable as women are dependent on men for physical satisfaction and economic security; and that women‟s dependency on other women for mental support is a reality in the male dominated societ
Environmental Protection in Peninsular Malaysia : An Evaluation of Water Pollution Policies
The thesis examines the environmental pressure caused by developmental goals using water pollution in peninsular Malaysia as its unit of analysis. In doing so, it explores the trend and magnitude of economic development indicators such as urbanization, population and industrial growth with special reference to manufacturing industry in the country. The study argues that development activity is a public policy demand towards which a government must strive to achieve at all costs. However, the price of developmental goals is always an environmental degradation of natural resources such as water. In the light of this, the study examines the various policy measures, actions and mechanisms put forward by the government to overcome the problem of water pollution in Peninsular Malaysia. The study also indentifies issues associated with some policy mechanisms or instruments used by the government, and administrative constraints are likely to hinder the implementation of such policies and their effectiveness. Methodologically, the study uses a quantitative method of analysis such statistical regression to examine the correlation and magnitude of relationship between the chosen development indicators and water pollution. It equally used the outcome model of analysis and statistical time series method to evaluate the effectiveness of the implemented policies in respect to the level of water pollution over the period under review. The findings of the study show that more that 90% of water pollution is caused by development indicators. This contradicts the view of economists who often claim in different Earth Summits that ignorance and habits of people are the main causes of water pollution. With respect to the level of reduction in river pollution, in some years, the policy enforcement actions were very effective by compelling the identified sources of water pollution compiled with policy requirements. However, there were many periods where the level of pollution in rivers became worse. This seems to suggest some weaknesses in the policy instruments used. Another issue includes financial constraints of the small scale industries to install appropriate treatment technologies required of them by the regulatory policies. Specifically, the findings of the study show that the organic pollutants (measured by BOD) from Palm Oil and Rubber industries have been reduced to a certain extent due to vigorous policy enforcement actions and invention of appropriate technologies by research programmes of the government to support these industries
Shari’ah Objectives (Maqasid Al-Shari’ah) in Mu’amalat and Contracts
The objective of the Shari’ah or maqasid al-Shari’ah is to promote the welfare of human beings through safeguarding the five fundamentals: faith, life, intellect, posterity, and wealth (Al-Ghazali, 1356/1937, pp. 139-140; Chapra, 1998 & 2008). The scope and application of maqasid al-Shari’ah is very wide yet as Kamali (2014) asserts, it has remained underdeveloped in Islamic legal thought. It did attract some attention only in the latter part of 20th century but that too has largely remained in the realm of methodology, not so much on the applications of maqasid to particular subjects. Currently, maqasid al-Shari’ah is considered to be the guiding principle of Islamic finance, but the current discourse on maqasid is confined to generalities such as dharuriyyat, hajiyyat and tahsiniyyat without much attention paid to the particularities of mu’amalat and contracts that are currently in practice. This lacunae is filled somewhat by the International Conference on ‘Shari’ah Objectives (Maqasid Al-Shari\u27ah) in Mu’amalat and Contracts. It was jointly organized by International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS) Malaysia and Securities Commission Malaysia along with Islamic Banking and Finance Institute Malaysia (IBFIM) and International Shari’ah Research Academy for Islamic Finance (ISRA) and was held at IAIS auditorium on 28 & 29 January 2014 (Tuesday & Wednesday). The theme of the Conference was “Identification – Classification – Criteria and Applications to Mu’amalat” and its objectives were : 1) to promote a better understanding and application of maqasid al-Shari’ah in the light of contemporary needs; 2) to underline the significance of maqasid al-Shari’ah in Islamic financial transactions (mu’amalat); 3) to address the challenges of maqasid- compliance in Islamic financial institutions, and to provide solutions so as to uphold the principles and the spirit of Islamic law; 4) and to propose a unified regime of compliance for Islamic financial institutions, and governance policies which they may adhere to

Islamization of Attitudes and Practices in Science and Technolog
الإختلاط في التعليم وانعاكسه السلبي على العملية التربوية
Islam provides a comprehensive guideline to educate the humankinds, to cultivate a generation, to build a nation and civilization. It also bestows dignity for the whole mankind men and women alike. All Islamic scholars agree that there is no difference between man and woman when it comes to acquiring knowledge as a religious obligation. Muslim women had made tremendous headway in the realm of education and culture under the shadow of Islam throughout the history. However, Islam puts considerable emphasis on the importance of women\u27s modesty and on the prevention of free mixing. The idea has been reinforced by the scholars of Islam such as Imam Al-Qabisi and Ibn Sahnun. They contend that in order to maintain women\u27s dignity and honor and to prevent extramarital affairs, female education should be segregated from male

The Role of Social Media in Promoting Ethics, Morals and Values
Over the last few years the nature of communication has undergone a substantial change and it is still changing. Especially the revolution in social networking systems has tremendously changed the way of social communication. Modern social media opens up the possibilities of learning, discovering and sharing ideas and interacting with one another. Ethics and values are the spiritual aspect of any religion and civilization. Islam is the comprehensive moral guide line for the whole mankind, which requires being spread out to them around the world. The Prophet (SAAS) also said, “Convey my teachings to the people even if it were a single sentence” (Bukhari, Hadith No. 667). So in the modern and cyber era, the practice of promoting moral values can be performed in many ways. Though there are no experimental studies regarding the use of social media in promoting ethics (dā’wah), this study will shed light on the understanding of how social media should be utilized for this purpose. It recommends, therefore, that the social media should be used by religious callers to improve the scalability of their dā’wah towards contemporary societies
The Philosophy of the Life of Prophet Muhammad (SAAS) and the Contemporary World
In the article ‘the Philosophy of the Life of Prophet Muhammad (SAAS) and the Contemporary World’, it has been tried to analyze to what extext the Prophet (SAAS) became successful with his mission. It has also been tried to analyze the particular areas of the contemporary problems and their possible way out as well. Whether by following him anyone can be turned into a terrorist or whether he (Prophet) shall still be followed in this age has also been tried to analyze in a pratical context. It is only for the Prophet (SAAS) that a nomadic Arabs of the desert could touch the final peack of civilization. He is like a touchstone. Even the non-Muslim scholars confessed that there is none comparable to Prophet Muhammad (SAAS) in the whole world. He is the greatest among the human being. But there were conspiracies, vengeance, and strong opponents of the truth in all times. His ideologies have always been misinterpreted only because of false propaganda. Many are raising questions as to whether the Prophet (SAAS) should be followed in the present context. Despite thousands of false propagandas, the greatness of the ideology of Prophet Muhammad (SAAS) has not faded away. Therefore, it can be said undoubetly that everyone who will follow the Prophet’s ideologies with full confidence will succeed in life. Only following his ideologies, it is possible to make this earth safe and achieve both the desired peace on this earth and redeption in the and hereafter
Woman: Chastisement and Other Issues
This paper after briefly discussing the status of women in the West. Third World countries like Uganda. Bangladesh and United Arab Emirates has raised three most pertinent questions, namely. (i) whether the husband has an inborn shariah right to beat wife to discipline her and resolve marital discord. [ii) whether the position of men is above women, and finally (iii) whether it is mandatory for believing women to cover face. The paper then strongly refuted. the age old views on these issues and made an attempt to dispel many hitherto held traditional observation as being the reflection of cultural legacy of pre-Islamic jahiliyah and the result of male chauvinism
