Change Management and Sustainable Growth Rate: Evidence of the Banking Sector in Angola between 2013 and 2023
Full text linkEffective change management creates value for firms prepared to respond to market challenges robustly and forthrightly to gain competitive advantage. This study identifies the role of effective change management in promoting the capabilities of firms to remain sustainable and resilient amid economic crises. After engaging with the concept of crises and change management, this study analyses the banking sector in Angola with a particular focus on commercial banks. The financial statements of banks were scrutinised over the period between 2013 and 2023 with a view to determine the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR), which is considered an indicator of sustainability and resilience. Only four banks managed to successfully navigate through the roller-coaster period of crisis with a positive SGR throughout the period of analysis. This case study attempts to bridge theories and praxis to inform both scholars and practitioners. The study concludes by identifying four important contributions and suggesting opportunities for further research and application
Building Political Identity through Visual Affective Polarisation on Instagram: A Comparison of Six European Far-Right Parties
Full text linkThis article compares the power of visual affective polarisation on Instagram among six European far-right political parties with the aim of enhancing academic knowledge about the manner in which these parties construct their political identity through visual symbols, rhetoric, and imagery to appeal to their target audiences and convey their ideologies. Through quantitative content analysis of Instagram visuals posted on Instagram by the six main European far-right parties during a two-month period, we focused on content-related and format-related variables, as well as technical features, to analyse those visuals as denotative, connotative and ideological systems from the visual framing model perspective. Findings revealed significant differences in the visual framing strategies among these European far-right political parties, pointing to the complexity in identifying a common pattern in their strategic visual communication regarding affective polarisation. This study contributes to the existing literature on visual communication and affective polarisation strategies in politics
Personalised vs. Non-Personalised Peer Review Requests: Preliminary Data for Calculating Effects on Response Rate, Quality and Completion
Full text linkPeer review is and will remain the cornerstone of research publishing, but finding the right candidate to write an evaluation report for submitted manuscripts can be a challenge for academic publishers. Reaching out to peer reviewers always leaves a written trail (both for reasons of editorial accountability and quality control) and generally starts with an email inquiry from the editors. The content and style of these emails can influence how the recipient responds to the request, and analysing them could offer publishers valuable insights on how to design such initial contacts for optimal efficacy. This article is aimed at presenting a database and preliminary results for such analysis, consisting of 854 anonymised peer review requests sent out through traditional email, academia.edu andresearchgate.net private messages between 2018 and 2022. It was found that personalised peer review requests had a higher response rate and higher ratio of submitted reports than non-personalised ones, and personalisation has the best results with peers of low academic seniority. Requests sent through academic social media had a response rate comparable to personalised email messages but received significantly fewer refusals and resulted in more completed evaluation reports, especially when female academics were targeted

Full text linkReview of Scientific Publications on Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing in Major Hungarian Law Enforcement Journals over the Last 20 Years
Full text linkInternational and nation-state action against money laundering is of paramount importance, as this activity poses a major threat to the economic stability and public security of certain countries. The danger of money laundering is demonstrated by the fact that it is closely linked to organised crime, as organised crime groups seek to legalise their illicit proceeds through various methods of money laundering. The effective prevention, detection and proof of money laundering offences is therefore the basis for effective action against organised crime. The main objective of my literature research is to provide a comprehensive picture of the scientific results published in the last twenty years in the most prestigious law enforcement journals in Hungary. The research method was an online database search between 2004 and 2024, which contains articles from three Hungarian journals (Belügyi Szemle, Magyar Rendészet, and Rendészeti Szemle). As a result of the search and filtering, 13 relevant articles were found in the period under study. The published articles point out the harmful economic effects of money laundering, its history in Hungary, the changing Hungarian and European Union legal background, the various legal interpretations and dogmatic issues related to money laundering, the methods and trends of money laundering in practice, and some articles also discuss the crime of terrorist financing related to money laundering. It provides an excellent summary for both researchers and practitioners
Policing as a Profession in Social Media from a Comparative Perspective
Full text linkThe need for publicity, transparency and accountability has increased as a pressure on police forces since the emergence of social media. But while initially the novelty and lack of experience with new tools excused police forces from uncertainties, shortcomings or mistakes in managing their profiles, a quarter of a century later, the police can be accountable for awareness and usefulness of their practice.
The main question of the research, based on social media monitoring, is how the different branches of policing, their specific activities and the content that highlights expertise and promotes and recognises policing to citizens are presented, beyond the organisational image-building function.
The applied method is the qualitative document and text analysis supported by computer software to analyse the Facebook activity of the Hungarian Police and a Hungarian (community) police officer in Canada. The sample included two different months’ shared content for both profiles studied using purposive sampling.
The results show a strong contrast in terms of the direct law enforcement implications of the content. Hungarian communication is centralised, highly controlled, organisational and professional, but at a great distance from the day-to-day tasks, while Canadian communication is personal, semi-professional-layman and gives a direct insight into the working day of the police.
Our conclusion is that different policing models enable very different content along different practices, and the reasons are rooted in both regulation and culture. While the Hungarian legislation relegates the individual police officer to the background in order to strengthen the image of the organisation through propaganda, overseas it is the individual who brings the profession ‘in the flesh’ and gives it credibility and legitimacy

Full text linkMilitary science was a crucial factor even in ancient times, and those commanders or legislator who recognized its importance prepared their warriors in a way that enabled them to win wars. One of its cornerstones was physical education, closely linked to intellectual and mental development, which contributed to the cultivation of military virtues and the stable structure of society. In ancient warfare, physical contact was predominant, placing emphasis on physical combat, weapon handling, and marching in armor. Preparation for these activities was characterized by functionality or lifelong military training.A hadtudomány már az ókorban is meghatározó tényező volt, és amelyik hadvezér vagy törvényhozó belátta ennek fontosságát, az úgy készítette fel harcosait, hogy azok a háborúkat meg is tudják nyerni. Ennek egyik alappillére volt a testi nevelés és az ezzel összefüggésben álló szellemi és mentális fejlesztés is, amelyek hozzájárultak a katonai erények kialakulásához és a társadalom stabil felépítéséhez. Full text linkThe primary task of organizations struggling with workforce shortages in our time is to develop an effective recruitment policy. An integral aspect of the modernization process of the Hungarian Defense Forces is adapting to the changes in both external and internal environmental cultures. The previously established and applied organizational processes and procedures, including the redesign of succession planning, may lead to the reconsideration of traditional recruitment strategies characteristic of highly hierarchical organizations. Cadets studying in the sectoral vocational training of national defense theoretically meet this criterion and may, in the long term, be capable of providing the human resources required by the armed forces. During their training, in addition to acquiring professions closely related to the military vocation, they can also gain highly specialized and often extremely cost-intensive skills within the framework of patriotic and national defense education. In their final year, they have the opportunity to undertake reserve military service and complete basic training. Their pursuit of further military education appears to be less successful. I assume that the asymmetric and hybrid nature of ongoing wars and armed conflicts undermines the traditional, romanticized image of national armed forces, which is built on the heroism and military glory of conventional wars. At the same time, their generation\u27s characteristic openness to technology, flexible thinking, and the appealing vision of a renewed, modern armed force – along with the diminishing role of human involvement – could reshape their perception of the military. As the myth of the heroic warrior fades, it may pave the way for the young, tech-savvy generation to engage with military careers. Traditional recruitment, which offers conventional service, must also be renewed – just as the strategic principles of warfare are evolving – despite the fact that the romance of such conflicts has faded but not entirely disappeared.Korunk munkaerőhiánnyal küzdő szervezeteinek kiemelt feladata egy hatékony felvételi politika kialakítása. A Magyar Honvédség modernizációs folyamatának elkerülhetetlen velejárója a külső és belső környezeti kultúra változásaihoz való alkalmazkodás. A korábban kiépült és alkalmazott szervezeti folyamatok és eljárások, így az utánpótlás újratervezése az erősen hierarchizált szervezetekre jellemző hagyományos toborzási stratégiák újragondolását eredményezheti. A honvédelem ágazati szakképzésben tanuló kadétok elvben megfelelnek ennek a kritériumnak, hosszabb távon képesek lehetnek ellátni a hadsereg számára szükséges emberi erőforrások biztosítását. Képzésük során a katonai hivatáshoz közelálló szakmák elsajátítása mellett, a hazafias és honvédelmi nevelés keretében, akár rendkívül költségigényes különleges képességeket is elsajátíthatnak, utolsó tanévük alatt pedig lehetőségük nyílik tartalékos katonai szolgálat vállalására és az alapkiképzés végrehajtására. Katonai továbbtanulásuk mégis kevésbé tűnik eredményesnek. Feltételezésem szerint a jelenleg zajló háborúk, fegyveres összeütközések aszimmetrikus, hibrid jellegük miatt rombolják a nemzeti haderőknek a hagyományos háborúk hősiességre, a katonai dicsőségre épített romantikus képét. Ugyanakkor a generációjukra jellemző technológiai nyitottság, rugalmas gondolkodás és egy megújult modern haderő kialakításának vonzó képe – az emberi szerep csökkenése mellett – átalakíthatja a hadseregről alkotott képüket, és a hős harcos mítoszának halványulása mellett megnyithatja az utat a fiatal technikai affinitású generáció számára. A hagyományos szolgálatot kínáló toborzásnak – mindamellett, hogy az ilyen típusú konfliktusok romantikája megkopott, de nem tűnt el – meg kell újulnia ugyanúgy, mint ahogy a hadviselés stratégiai elvei is átalakulnak
The Current Challenges of Security and Public Safety the Defence Administrative Context of Their Management
Full text linkSafe life, or rather the time spent in public security has been a constant, determining factor for a healthy form of social coexistence since the beginning of time. For this reason, I have decided to write my present study on this topic, in which I pay special attention to some aspects of the concept of security, also content-related issues of the definition and global factors that threaten everyday life. Following the description of security anomalies related to the international situation, I analyse Hungary’s interpretation of security and defence policy, and introduce the description of Hungary’s new national security strategy. Taking public security under scrutiny, the organisational system guaranteeing Hungarian public security is described, the maintenance task of which is one of the obligations of the Hungarian state. The main theme of my work is related to these ideas and I believe that it analyses such a defining issue, the development of which is extremely important for every state
A Magyar Honvédség kiberképzési rendszerének evolúciója
Full text linkDuring the development of military capabilities, cyberspace appears as a separate domain of war, however, it impacts all other domains. In the case of cyber defence and cyber operations education topics, the emergence of this cross-function (between domains) is essential to joint military thinking and operations planning. In recent years, communications and information systems (CIS) as well as CIS protection services have played an increasingly prominent role in Hungarian Defence Forces operations, further developing cyber defence capabilities, training and exercises aimed at raising user awareness. In 2019, the Hungarian Defence Forces established the Military Cyber Academy, which provides an appropriate platform for the implementation of these tasks for the administrator, management and operating staff. Cyber education topics are regularly updated considering emerging needs and the teaching staff continuously monitors (ever-evolving) cybersecurity trends.A katonai képességek kialakítása során a kibertér mint külön műveleti tér jelenik meg, azonban hatását kifejti minden haderőnem vonatkozásában. A kibervédelmi és kiberműveleti oktatási tematikák esetében ezen keresztfunkció megjelenése elengedhetetlen az összhaderőnemi gondolkodás és művelettervezés megteremtése érdekében. Az elmúlt években a Magyar Honvédség működésében is egyre hangsúlyosabb szerepet kaptak az infokommunikációs szolgáltatások, valamint az ezek védelmét biztosító elektronikus információvédelmi, ebből tovább fejlődve kibervédelmi képességek és a felhasználói tudatosság növelésére irányuló képzések, gyakorlatok. A Magyar Honvédség 2019-ben megalakította a Kiberakadémiát, amely platformot biztosít ezen feladatok végrehajtására mind az ügyintézői, mind a vezetői, mind az üzemeltető állomány részére. A kialakított oktatási tematikát a felmerült igények figyelembevételével rendszeresen aktualizálják, az oktatói állomány folyamatosan nyomon követi a kiberbiztonsági trendek alakulását
