DNA barcoding of commercially important marine fish species Hipposcarus harid from the central Red Sea, Saudi Arabia
In this study, the collected fish species were identified based on morphological observations and then evaluated by DNA barcoding. The COI gene has been recognized as a biological marker for fish species identification and the objective of this study is to analyze the variable region of the COI gene in subunit I. The mitochondrial cytochrome (COI) oxidase subunit I gene was analyzed as a suitable molecular maker for the identification of three specimens of the fish species Hipposcarus harid, widely distributed in the Red Sea. The COI gene sequences in the variable region revealed variations among the fish species. The COI gene sequences in the variable region were similar to the variable region of Hipposcarus harid collected from the Northern Red Sea and all three were named: H. harid H13, H. harid H2c, and H. harid H12. The identification of the fish species collected from the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia would help ichthyologists improve the management, conservation and monitoring of economically important long-nose parrotfish species in Saudi Arabia. In this study, the collected fish species were identified based on morphological observations and then evaluated by DNA barcoding. Crustacean species off the coast of Kıyıköy (Black Sea, Türkiye) with a new record
Examination of hard- and soft-bottom samples collected off the coast of Kıyıköy (Black Sea, Türkiye) using grabs, quadrats and trawls revealed a total of 39 crustaceans belonging to eight orders. Among the species, Medorippe lanata was recorded in the Black Sea for the first time. Amphipoda dominated on hard and soft substrates in terms of the number of species and individuals. A total of 898 individuals belonging to 27 species were identified on the hard bottom, of which Ampithoe ramondi was the most dominant species (47.4%). On the other hand, a total of 123 individuals belonging to 16 species were recorded on the soft bottom, with Diogenes pugilator (21.1%) being the most dominant species (21.1%). A total of 441 individuals belonging to nine species were found following bottom and beam trawl hauls, with Liocarcinus navigator and L. depurator being the most frequent species. Community parameters were estimated in both hard- and soft-bottom samples.Examination of hard- and soft-bottom samples collected off the coast of Kıyıköy (Black Sea, Türkiye) using grabs, quadrats and trawls revealed a total of 39 crustaceans belonging to eight orders. Nutrient content in tissues of Groenlandia densa, Myriophyllum spicatum and Zannichellia palustris: an attempt to understand the intercompartmental relationships in a small stream in the Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco
Research has long focused on the relative importance of leaves and roots as sources of nutrient supply for macrophytes, as well as the function each stream compartment plays in their growth and development. This study aims to expand the debate on aquatic ecology and to better understand the connection between compartments in aquatic systems by highlighting the relationship observed in rivers between nutrients in macrophytes tissues, water, and sediments. We measured the concentrations of P-PO4, N-NO3 and N-NH4 in three different compartments of the Amengous stream in the Middle Atlas of Morocco. Myriophyllum spicatum (L.), Groenlandia densa (L.) Fourr. and Zannichellia palustris (L.) were selected as plant species. Our results show that even if the species coexist in the same habitat, they respond differently to nutrient richness. G. densa has a higher nutrient accumulation capacity than M. spicatum and Z. palustris and prefers the water compartment as a nutrient source. Although M. spicatum can accumulate phosphate compounds from water and sediment, ammonium is not its preferred nitrogen source. Z. palustris shows a tendency to accumulate nitrogen compounds through the roots, while it prefers the assimilation of phosphorus compounds through the leaves rather than the roots.Research has long focused on the relative importance of leaves and roots as sources of nutrient supply for macrophytes, as well as the function each stream compartment plays in their growth and development.

Stanislaw Brzozowski’s entry into the “Russian world”. A few reflections on the 'Flames' novel
The specific attitude and mentality of the Polish thinker, literary critic, publicist, writer and poet Stanisław Brzozowski (1878–1911), reflected, among others, in his novel Flames were the basis, the precondition for his entry into the “Russian world”. Failure to meet this condition could even mean closing the latter for the Polish creator. He did not identify himself with Tsarist Russia, presented in the novel as a dead structure, a denial of humanity, synonymous with violence and rape. He was closer to the Russia of revolutionaries, striving to restore freedom and justice through radical actions, and, at the same time, drawing from the treasury of European knowledge and ideas. It was with this Russia that he felt ideologically connected and – at least to some extent – through it and in its context, he identified himself with the real “here and now”. Both for young Russians – advocates of change and transformation, and for the Polish author, Russian literature was an important point of reference, including: Fathers and children by Ivan Turgenev. However, while the former treated this work and the “principles” of life of its main character – Bazarov – as a literary description of the first, initial stage of their activity, this novel enabled Brzozowski’s first adult entry into the ideological and mental reality of the era in which he lived. The article shows the phenomenon and specificity of the author’s entry into the “Russian world” of Flames, and presents the assessments that Brzozowski formulated about the faces of Russia, or rather two Russias, criticizing anachronistic and degenerate – in his opinion – forms of Polishness at the same time.Specyficzna postawa i umysłowość polskiego myśliciela, krytyka literackiego, publicysty, pisarza i poety Stanisława Brzozowskiego (1878–1911), znajdujące odzwierciedlenie w powieści Płomienie, stanowiły podstawę, warunek wstępny wejścia twórcy w „świat rosyjski”. The specific attitude and mentality of the Polish thinker, literary critic, publicist, writer and poet Stanisław Brzozowski (1878–1911), reflected, among others, in his novel Flames were the basis, the precondition for his entry into the “Russian world”.
