Shamans, plants, and spirits: Health and disease in the Plantocene
Get PDFThis paper explores the experiences and perspectives of people from Poland who engage with psychoactive plants, referred to by me as the Plants, such as ayahuasca, psilocybin mushrooms, and mescaline-containing cacti-for healing and personal growth. Based on fourteen in-depth interviews and analysis of online discussions, the paper examines how my interlocutors conceptualize health, disease, and healing through their encounters with the Plants. The research highlights the shift from conventional biomedical paradigms to holistic, plant-centered approaches in which the Plants are seen as agentive beings capable of communicating with humans. The concept of the “Plantocene” is introduced as a speculative framework, suggesting that plant agency influences human behavior and planetary futures. Get PDFThe conduct of agricultural business is exposed to many risks, which can be mitigated in various ways. One of the solutions to minimize the risks occurring in the agricultural industry is to insure it. The main objective of the article is to determine customer behaviour in the agricultural insurance market. To the main objective, specific objectives were set to identify the respondents' possession of voluntary and compulsory agricultural insurance, to determine the level of insurance awareness of agricultural insurance buyers, and to identify the weights and types of factors influencing farmers' decisions to purchase agricultural insurance services.
The research was carried out by means of a diagnostic survey with the use of a questionnaire among farmers running their farms in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and the Mazovian Voivodeship.
The voluntary agricultural insurance most often chosen by buyers is property insurance, while the mandatory agricultural insurance is agricultural buildings insurance. Nearly a third of surveyed farmers rate their level of familiarity with agricultural insurance as good or very good. The most familiar insurances are compulsory insurance: agricultural buildings insurance and farmer's liability insurance. The biggest benefit that comes from having agricultural insurance is protection of assets and financial assistance in case of misfortune. Respondents most often sought information on the product offerings of insurers on the Internet and from insurance agents. The sum insured, a wide range of insurers and the amount of premium are the most frequently indicated determinants of the choice of agricultural insurance.Prowadzenie działalności rolniczej jest narażone na wiele ryzyk, które można ograniczać w różny sposób. Jednym z rozwiązań minimalizującym ryzyko występujące w branży rolniczej jest jego ubezpieczenie. Celem głównym artykułu jest określenie zachowań klientów na rynku ubezpieczeń rolnych. Do celu głównego wyznaczono cele szczegółowe dotyczące identyfikacji posiadanych przez respondentów dobrowolnych i obowiązkowych ubezpieczeń rolnych, określenia poziomu świadomości ubezpieczeniowej nabywców ubezpieczeń rolnych oraz identyfikacji wag i rodzajów czynników wpływających na podejmowane przez rolników decyzje zakupu usług ubezpieczeń rolnych.
Badania przeprowadzono za pomocą sondażu diagnostycznego z wykorzystaniem kwestionariusza ankiety wśród rolników prowadzących swoje gospodarstwa rolne na terenie województwa warmińsko-mazurskiego oraz województwa mazowieckiego.
Najczęściej wybieranym przez nabywców dobrowolnym ubezpieczeniem rolnym jest ubezpieczenie mienia, natomiast obowiązkowym ubezpieczeniem rolnym jest ubezpieczenie budynków rolniczych. Prawie jedna trzecia badanych rolników swój poziom znajomości ubezpieczeń rolnych ocenia jako dobry i bardzo dobry. Najbardziej znanymi ubezpieczeniami są ubezpieczenia obowiązkowe: ubezpieczenie budynków rolniczych oraz ubezpieczenie OC rolnika. Największą korzyścią, która wynika z posiadania ubezpieczenia rolnego jest ochrona majątku i pomoc finansowa na wypadek nieszczęścia. Ankietowani najczęściej poszukiwali informacji odnośnie oferty produktowej ubezpieczycieli w intrenecie oraz u agentów ubezpieczeniowych. Suma ubezpieczenia, szeroka oferta ubezpieczycieli oraz wysokość składki są najczęściej wskazywanymi determinantami wyboru ubezpieczeń rolnych

Get PDFPurpuse – The rift between economic theory and practice resulting from an overly narrow practice of economics has led to the need for a discussion of the values underlying economics. One of its threads is the search for solutions to the modern challenges facing economic man, with the well-being of each individual at its core. The article attempts to identify the relationship between economics and yoga and to recognize the nature of the relationship in which the two categories remain with each other.
Methodology – The work is a review and systematization. It was assumed that the relationship of economics and yoga, have a multifaceted nature so it requires analyzing them at three levels of economics: micro- (economic behavior of people both consumers and entrepreneurs), meso- (functioning of economic entities) and macro-economic (functioning of the economic system of the region, country or economic community).
Findings – Yoga, being a philosophical system, has been recognized as a source of values that influence the way one sees oneself and one's place in the world. The research carried out allows it to be considered as a tool for socio-cultural development, which changes the paradigms of economics towards an economy of values with the common good at its core.Cel. Rozdźwięk między teorią i praktyką gospodarowania wynikający z nazbyt wąskiego uprawiania ekonomii doprowadził do potrzeby dyskusji na temat wartości stojących u podstaw ekonomii. Jednym z jej wątków jest poszukiwanie rozwiązań, które będą odpowiadać współczesnym wyzwaniom z jakimi mierzy się człowiek gospodarujący, a u<podstaw których leżeć będzie dobrostan każdego człowieka. W artykule podjęto próbę zidentyfikowania związków ekonomii i jogi oraz rozpoznania charakteru relacji w jakich pozostają ze sobą obie te kategorie.
Metoda. Praca ma charakter przeglądowy i systematyzujący. Przyjęto, że relacje ekonomii i jogi, mają charakter wielopłaszczyznowy więc wymagają analizowania ich na trzech poziomach gospodarowania: mikro- (gospodarczych zachowań ludzi zarówno konsumentów, jak i przedsiębiorców), mezo- (funkcjonowania podmiotów gospodarczych) i makroekonomicznym (funkcjonowania systemu gospodarczego regionu, kraju lub wspólnoty gospodarczej).
Wyniki. Joga, będąca systemem filozoficznym, została uznana za źródło wartości, które wpływają na sposób widzenia siebie i swojego miejsca w świecie. Get PDFIn 2004, Lithuania joined the European Union, which significantly influenced the country's economy and the development of its regions. The article, using a synthetic labor market indicator, determines and compares the differences in the level of labor market development in the years 2004-2023. The main factors determining the diversification of the development of districts in Lithuania were identified. This helped assess how EU membership influenced development differences and what challenges and opportunities it brought for individual regions. Data comes from the Department of Statistics of Lithuania.W 2004 roku Litwa przystąpiła do Unii Europejskiej, co znacząco wpłynęło na gospodarkę kraju i rozwój jego regionów. W artykule, wykorzystując syntetyczny wskaźnik rynku pracy, wyznaczono oraz porównano zróżnicowanie poziomu rozwoju rynku pracy w latach 2004-2023. Artificial Intelligence and the Financial Security of the State on the Example of Poland
Get PDFThe changing reality of the surrounding world has made us realise the value and potential resulting from the use of modern technologies. As it turned out during the pandemic, the use of technical devices enabling the implementation of public tasks without the direct cooperation of people has become indispensable to ensure the functioning of every country.
These modern technologies identified with artificial intelligence technology (hereinafter referred to as AI – artificial intelligence) have been, to an increasing extent, also used in the area related to the financial aspects of the functioning of Poland. Recognising the need to use them, it is necessary to pay attention to ensuring the guarantee of the state’s financial security, which determines its independence of functioning.
Considering the above, the aim of the study will be to determine the manifestations of this technological interference in the financial sphere of its operation in relation to its inherent financial authority. At the same time, to carry out the considerations, it will be necessary, based on legal acts, doctrine and court decisions, to demonstrate the benefits and threats resulting from the use of AI in relation to budget and tax security of the state on the example of Poland

Get PDFThis article compares images of animals belonging to the Korean zodiac contained in related Korean idioms and proverbs with images of the same animals in Polish language and culture. The author takes a number of Korean phrasemes and proverbs from Korean language dictionaries and uses them as a material to formulate theses on the image of the animals. The characteristics attributed to the various animals of the Korean zodiac are discussed, along with examples of related proverbs. Despite significant advances in technology (Korea currently ranks second in the world in technological expertise), Koreans show great devotion to their history and traditions, cherishing their cultural heritage. During fi eld research conducted in northern Vietnam between 2022 and 2023, I carried out an analysis of the current state of tourist potential of individual facilities, and assessed the level of tourist development, organizational efficiency, and the possibilities of implementing steps to increase attractiveness to tourists. I present the organizational and marketing conditions of the tourist potential of the area analyzed, discussing the strengths and weaknesses of this spot as well as opportunities and threats. The tourist potential of Pho Hien is discussed, and its beginnings, its tourist attractions, and its cultural conditions are pointed out. Get PDFNatural resource use can produce conflicts, especially when new resource plans threaten existing practices. Such is the case, for example, with the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), constructed 2016–2017. However, such conflicts can be complicated and difficult to decipher. In recent years, the concept of Response Assemblages (RAs) has become an increasingly used tool of analysis. Simultaneously, differing notions of RAs have emerged. This article applies varying conceptions of Response Assemblages (RAs) to the conflict surrounding the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) to provide better understandings of both RAs and the conflict.
This article focuses on the court cases that ensued from the time that the DAPL was approved by the Trump administration in January 2017 until May 2021
