Background:Social media platforms have become integral to modern society, facilitating diverse content interactions for individuals. The widespread use of social media has sparked intriguing inquiries into its impact on self-perception and individual well-being. This study investigated the phenomenon of social media appearance preoccupation and its complex relationship with psychosocial factors such as self-esteem, well-being, appearance-related anxiety, depression, and anxiety, considering both the rich-get-richer hypothesis and the poor-get-richer hypothesis. Participants and procedure:A sample of 401 Italian participants, aged 18 to 54, completed the demographic questionnaire, the Social Media Appearance Preoccupation Scale (SMAPS), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SES), the Psychological General Well-Being Index (PGWBI), the Beck Depression Inventory II (BDI-II), and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Y2 (STAI-Y2). Results:The results suggest a complex relationship between psychosocial factors and social media appearance preoccupation (SMAP). While higher levels of self-esteem and well-being were associated with lower levels of SMAP, indicating a protective effect against appearance preoccupation on social media, there was a positive correlation between appearance-related anxiety, leisure hours of media use, and SMAP. Conclusions:These findings underscore the multifaceted nature of SMAP and its associations with various psychosocial factors. Overall, these results provide partial support for the theory of the poor-get-richer hypothesis, suggesting that individuals experiencing heightened levels of appearance-related anxiety may turn to social media as a coping mechanism, potentially exacerbating their psychological distress. Background:Social media platforms have become integral to modern society, facilitating diverse content interactions for individuals. Background:This study examined associations between self-reported trauma exposure and physical health status after control of vari-ance associated with psychiatric disturbance. Physical and mental health diagnoses were examined among participants with and without histories of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).Participants and procedure:College (n = 2,320) and national (n = 663) respondents were surveyed to identify trauma histories defined using the primary DSM-5 diagnostic criterion for PTSD. Respondents also identified lifetime diagnoses for a range of medical and psychiatric conditions. They were also asked to provide a self-assessment of their own current physical health status using a ten-point scaling metric. Results:Support was found for all three hypotheses: (H1) Self-identified trauma was associated with higher prevalence rates for 16 of 18 medical diagnoses; (H2) PTSD diagnoses were associated with higher prevalence rates than trauma alone for 6 of 16 medical conditions; and (H3) Self-reported trauma was associated with higher prevalence rates for 7 of 18 medical condi-tions among respondents who denied psychiatric histories. Conclusions:Trauma exposure both with and without co-occurring psychiatric illness was associated with substantially higher rates of self-reported physical illness. Practitioners and researchers should recognize the potential significance of self-identified trauma and the range of potential biosocial implications that may warrant monitoring. Background:This study examined associations between self-reported trauma exposure and physical health status after control of vari-ance associated with psychiatric disturbance.      The objective of the study presented in this article is the development of an effective system for the classification of fatigue levels among library personnel, based on biometric and behavioral signals. The proposed system aims to enable early detection of five distinct fatigue levels, ranging from the absence of fatigue to a state of impairment that hinders effective job performance. The research involves a comparative evaluation of various machine learning algorithms to determine their classification efficacy. The findings will contribute to the development of intelligent tools designed to support the management of employee well-being. Uzyskane wyniki posłużą do stworzenia inteligentnych narzędzi wspierających zarządzanie dobrostanem pracowników.&nbsp

The aim of this article is to compare the proposed changes to the formula of representation of the Senate of the Second Polish Republic, as expressed in the work of the Constitutional Committee of the Sejm, and to compare them with the organization of the second chambers in other European countries. The research was based on the provisions of the March Constitution of 1922, four proposals of constitutional changes, and stenographic reports from the work of the Committee. The main aimof the research was to show the connections between the proposed solutions and similar phenomena in other parts of Europe, which allowed for embedding the Polish discussion in a broader continental context. The analysis indicates the convergence of the Polish debate on the shape of the second chamber with foreign counterparts, and each of the presented ways of thinking about the Senate was also implemented in one of the other European countries in the interwar period. Główny cel badań stanowiło wskazanie powiązań pomiędzy proponowanymi rozwiązaniami a analogicznymi zjawiskami w innych częściach Europy, co umożliwiło osadzenie polskiej dyskusji w ramach szerszego ogólnokontynentalnego kontekstu.

Gdańsk, a city with a rich history marked by wartime destruction and the dynamic rebuilding of imposed aesthetics, currently stands at an intriguing juncture. It balances between nature, with its expansive horizons, and the compelling architecture of valuable voids. The absence resulting from demolitions – the tangible trace of loss and emptiness – can be described as an absent presence, alongside the ongoing process of refilling the space. The Japanese concept of emptiness is one of the most intriguing yet elusive ideas in the aesthetics and philosophy of space. Its meaning extends far beyond physical emptiness, pointing to the potential between elements as a place for contemplation and breath. This article explores how the idea of emptiness can inspire contemporary artistic and architectural creation, developing spirituality in the historical and ideological aspects connected to the space of potential. The Japanese context offers an interesting intercultural perspective for finding harmony in space. The transfer of concepts inspires reflection on the idea of emptiness and the need to create new places that connect with nature. The culmination of these reflections is the “AINA: In Search of the Origins of the Japanese Concept” exhibition featuring the collection “Horizons” which took place in September 2024 at the Art in Architecture Gallery in Gdańsk, and concluded with a final event at Westerplatte. The interpretation of the concept of emptiness raises questions about presence, absence, and the relationality of forms. It engages in a dialogue between the material and immaterial, the visible and invisible, the local and universal. Interpretacja koncepcji pustki, prowokująca pytania o obecność, brak i relacyjność form. Dialog pomiędzy materialnym a niematerialnym, widzialnym a niewidzialnym, lokalnym a uniwersalnym

The revitalisation of Mongolian shamanism: Tradition, restitution, new approaches

    Get PDF
Since the collapse of the socialist system in the past 30 years, Mongolia has transitioned from an atheist state to one where multiple religions – such as Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam – coexist freely, with no restrictions on freedom of belief. This transformationhas also spurred the revival of shamanism, the indigenous religion of the Mongols. Despite its tragic history, Mongolian shamanism, shaped by unique local traditions, has shown a remarkable ability to re-emerge after a prolonged period of decline. The articleaims to explore the factors behind the centuries-long decline of Mongolian shamanism, the influences that facilitated its revival, and the process of institutionalization it has undergone. Furthermore, it examines the emerging trends in the study of Mongolian shamanism and the interplay of traditional and innovative elements in its revival.Since the collapse of the socialist system in the past 30 years, Mongolia has transitioned from an atheist state to one where multiple religions – such as Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam – coexist freely, with no restrictions on freedom of belief.
