Are conventional methods sufficient to calculate growth parameters of Pontastacus leptodactylus (Eschscholtz, 1823)? A case study of artificial intelligence from Keban Dam Lake
In this study, the length–weight relationships of Pontastacus leptodactylus, a freshwater crayfish species found in the Keban Dam Lake, were assessed using both conventional methods and artificial intelligence techniques. Throughout the research process, all biometric measurements of the crayfish were meticulously recorded, including TL, TW, and other biometric data. These measurements were analyzed using both the conventional length–weight relationship method and artificial neural networks. The results obtained using artificial neural networks and conventional methods were compared, and the analysis was based on MAPE and R2 performance criteria. The study showed that the ANNs method outperformed the conventional LWR method, showing more accurate results. The models employed to predict the length–weight relationships of the crayfish demonstrated high accuracy, and the Artificial Neural Networks method was identified as the most effective model. These results provide strong evidence that the ANNs method performs significantly better in predicting the LWRs of freshwater crayfish. In this study, the length–weight relationships of Pontastacus leptodactylus, a freshwater crayfish species found in the Keban Dam Lake, were assessed using both conventional methods and artificial intelligence techniques. Pozoracja i dezorientacja doktorantów w przygotowaniu do nauczania akademickiego (studium przypadku)
This article presents the results of a survey conducted between 2020 and 2024 in the context of a course preparing doctoral students at the Doctoral School of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University in Warsaw for academic teaching. The aim of the study was to explore the tasks identified by doctoral students as appropriate for an academic teacher and to verify their skills to differentiate between educational and non-educational activities and to design student learning oriented towards (self-)education. The author used an immersive single case study strategy. Mixed methods – quantitative and qualitative – were used to collect and analyze data. The conclusions of the study indicate that doctoral students (1) perceive academic teaching and learning as a poseurism expressed in a kind of game between students and lecturer, (2) do not differentiate between educational and non-educational activities, and (3) do not design tasks that engage students in their studies, taking into account (self-education).W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badania przeprowadzonego w latach 2020–2024 w kontekście kursu przygotowującego doktorantów Szkoły Doktorskiej Uniwersytetu Kardynała Stefana Wyszyńskiego w Warszawie do nauczania akademickiego. Do zgromadzenia i przeanalizowania materiału badawczego zastosowano metody mieszane: ilościowe i jakościowe.
This article analyses the meaning of human-nature relationship in Reymont's The Peasants for the Polish nationalist cause. Closeness between the characters and nature is underlined in the novel by their alleged spiritual attachment to the land, which, however, seems to stem from economic reasons. The inhabitants of Lipce live among the animals and often have warm feelings towards them, but this relationship is marked by human dominance. By presenting the attachment of his characters to the land and their depiction as keepers of the ancient, universal values, Reymont presents the Polish peasants as ready to participate in politics, although under the protection of the elites. The article presents how the class conflict in Chłopi is appeased and through that the awakening of national consciousness is exposed. This article analyses the meaning of human-nature relationship in Reymont's The Peasants for the Polish nationalist cause. "Siej chłopku, siej", czyli słowne interpretacje głosów ptaków a postrzeganie zwierząt w polskiej kulturze ludowej
The aim of this article is to examine messages conveyed in verbal interpretations of bird voices, which used to be present in traditional Polish culture. The author looks at the reasons why people chose to translate bird voices into their own language and what they actually believed the birds to tell them. By conducting an analysis of numerous selected examples of messages directed by birds to people, the author attempts to reveal what abilities were traditionally attributed to different bird species based on the contents of these messages. The article also examines the consequences of the antropomorphization phenomenon, which laid at the heart of such interpretations. The aim of this article is to examine messages conveyed in verbal interpretations of bird voices, which used to be present in traditional Polish culture. Deregulation as a Method to Solve the Pension Insurance Funding Problem
The author attempts to answer the question: can deregulation be a method to solve the problem of pension insurance financing? Pension insurance models and systems in EU member states since the 1970s, have shown increasing financial inefficiency, increasingly threatening the sustainability of public finances. At the same time, it is worth emphasizing that it is the financial sector and public finances that play a key role in solving socio-economic problems, and therefore social policy issues, including pension security. So, can deregulation be a method to solve the problem of pension insurance financing? Due to the limited size of the publication, the author will briefly characterize selected models of pension security financing. The problem of pension security in the European Union will also be presented, followed by the basic problem of pension finance, which is its structural debt. It is due in part to the exhaustion of the possibilities of the pay-as-you-go model, and in part to the demographic problem, which has been demonized beyond measure. Above all, however, it is due to a three-generation conceptual stagnation and reliance on 19th-century solutions, which, like other items from that period, are relics to be rightly admired, as part of the development of human thought, rather than applied almost 140 years later, in the third century since their inception. Finally, an outline will be given of the concept of deregulation of the pension system and, at the same time, the empowerment of citizens of countries that would adopt such a solution. Deregulation in itself is not a solution, but rather an element of the broader concept of healing the pension security of citizens1, the application of which could solve the existing problems of pension insurance finances. In the author’s opinion, it is worth devoting a moment of scientific reflection to this issue
Morze jako temat w dziełach z bursztynu. Nowe przemyślenia o malborskiej szkatule Mauchera
This text deals with motifs related to the sea appearing on and in early modern objects made of amber. It focusses most extensively on Christoph Maucher’s Malbork casket. It analyses its iconography and the techniques used by artists working in Gdańsk comprehensively. I show that Maucher was not only a skilled adaptor of graphic models, but also well acquainted with contemporary trends in sculpture and painting, and that he drew inspiration from the monumental art and architecture. Maucher was, first and foremost, a highly educated sculptor in modest dimensions, meaning that whether making a fully‑figured group to crown a casket or ornamental and landscape details, he was extremely precise. The text also draws attention to Maucher’s social position on the basis of his last will, as well as the complex technological research and conservation requirements of a work like Maucher’s casket. This text deals with motifs related to the sea appearing on and in early modern objects made of amber.
Military Use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) by Ukraine – Risk Assessment of Potential Impact on the Territory of the Republic of Belarus
The article presents an analysis of the Ukrainian experience in using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in military operations in the context of potential impact on the territory of the Republic of Belarus and its critical infrastructure. It examines the possibility of using unmanned aerial vehicles to strike strategically important targets on Belarusian territory, including airfields, oil refineries, gas pipelines, warehouses, and other key elements of critical infrastructure. The starting point is a study of similar impacts on the Russian Federation in the context of attacks on airfields, oil refineries, gas pipelines, and warehouses. Hypothesis of this work is the statement that Ukraine may have a significant impact on the Republic of Belarus through the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). These capabilities are largely limited by the potential risks of such impact. The article presents the results of computer modeling of military operations using unmanned aerial vehicles, which provide insights into the likelihood of such operations, allowing for the assumption and determination of both the operation's effectiveness and the potential response. The article presents an analysis of the Ukrainian experience in using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in military operations in the context of potential impact on the territory of the Republic of Belarus and its critical infrastructure.
