Nowe spojrzenie na czary: Płeć, głos i przemoc w powieści Philipa Parisa The Last Witch of Scotland
The aim of this article is to examine Philip Paris’s The Last Witch of Scotland (2023), a historical novel that reimagines the life and death of Janet Horne, the last person executed for witchcraft in Britain. Drawing on feminist theorists such as Silvia Federici, Mona Chollet, and Julia Kristeva, the article situates the novel within a broader discourse on gender, voice, and social exclusion in early eighteenth-century Scotland. It argues that through Aila Horne’s first-person narration and the compassionate portrayal of her mother Janet, Paris transforms archival absence into narrative presence and gives voice to those who were silenced before.

W aspekcie teoretycznym – stanowić podstawę do dalszych badań nad zrównoważonym rozwojem przedsiębiorstw sektora transportu-spedycji-logistyki
Financial Markets in Adverse Legal Environment: A Case of Islamic Banking in Tanzania
The performance of financial markets largely depends on a legal environment that fosters stability, certainty, and regulatory clarity. Islamic banking, as a key player in financial markets in Tanzania is a Shariah-compliant entity in addition to observing laws of the land. On the part of the laws of the land however, Islamic banking is regulated by the legal framework primarily designed for conventional banking, offering inadequate accommodation to Shariah-compliant practices. This arrangement implies that, Islamic banking in Tanzania operates in an adverse legal environment. This fact awakened academic-curiosity of the Authors of this study to analyze the banking legal framework with a view of identifying legal challenges impacting Islamic banking operations. In so doing, the study employed documentary review and interview to gather relevant information. The information gathered, was interpreted qualitatively enhanced by a combination of a black-letter and socio-legal analysis. Findings of the study confirm that, Islamic banking in Tanzania operates in an adverse legal environment due to the existence of legal challenges that include: inadequate accommodation of Shariah-compliant practices in the banking legal framework; restrictive eligibility criteria for acquiring a banking license; constraints on asset based financing and liquidity management; the lack of central Shariah Advisory Board; and double taxation on Islamic financial transactions. The study recommends for amendments of the existing laws to accommodate Shariah-compliant practices. The amendments are essential to creating conducive legal environment that supports Islamic banking and strengthens financial markets in Tanzania
Selected Legal Aspect of Environmental Protection in the Context of the Reform of Europeanunion Customs Law
The paper explores the legal and institutional dimensions of environmental protection within the ongoing reform of the European Union’s customs law. It analyses the draft EU Customs Code, which integrates customs policy with the environmental objectives of Article 191 TFEU and redefines the role of customs administrations as protectors not only of the Union’s financial interests but also of the internal market’s ecological security.
Particular attention is paid to the control of environmentally risky imports, such as lithium-ion batteries, chemicals, and microplastic-based textiles. The paper discusses the interaction between customs controls and secondary EU environmental legislation — notably the REACH, Ecodesign, and Batteries Regulations — which require digital product passports and environmental data disclosure to customs authorities. Implementation challenges are linked to the absence of a unified electronic system among EU customs and environmental agencies.
Further, the paper analyses customs competences in detecting illegal waste shipments under Regulation (EC) No 1013/2006 and relevant CJEU case law. It highlights the potential of the proposed European Customs Authority and the Customs Data Hub to improve inter-agency cooperation. The conclusion stresses that effective environmental protection in customs practice depends on administrative integration rather than new competences, particularly in monitoring trade in waste and batteries. The analysis and synthesis methods were primarily used to address this issue, supplemented by historical and comparative methods
Praktyki zdrowotne klasy średniej w Polsce – przegląd badań
An attribute of the middle class in Western societies is a lifestyle including healthy behaviors. Since 1989, attempts have been made to identify healthy practices in the lifestyle of intelligentsia and entrepreneurs, which are the basic categories of forming the middle class in Poland. The aim was to make research review, including estimation of the frequency of healthy behaviors in these categories between 1997 and 2019 versus other segments of society possible thanks to repeatable studies by CBOS on nationwide representative samples. It showed that managers and specialists with higher education are characterized by higher percentages of people declaring healthy behaviors and lower percentages of peo¬ple declaring unhealthy ones. Entrepreneurs, especially at the beginning, had an average frequency of the examined behaviors compared to other categories. The results have confirmed the special interest in health and healthy practices among the Polish middle class similarly to the middle classes in Western countries.
Human Resource Management in Public Administration: content, current trends and challenges in the context of Ukraine
This article presents a comprehensive analysis of the current state of Ukraine’s public personnel policy in the context of ongoing globalization, digital transformation of public administration, and the exceptional circumstances of martial law. The study examines the theoretical and methodological foundations of personnel policy, its structural and functional dimensions, as well as the institutional and legal limitations that significantly affect the effectiveness of its implementation across all levels of public service. It is emphasized that personnel policy in Ukraine remains fragmented, normatively inconsistent, and highly susceptible to political fluctuations, which hinders the establishment of a stable, professional, and ethically oriented system of public administration. Special attention is given to the analysis of international experiences in implementing HRM strategies in EU countries, the United States, Canada, Germany, and the Nordic region. A comparative assessment of career-based and position-based civil service models is provided, along with an overview of modern trends in public HRM, including digitalization, ethical leadership development, strategic HRM practices, and human-centered governance. Based on this analysis, the article proposes key strategic directions for the modernization of Ukraine’s personnel policy.
The conclusions emphasize the need to shift toward a new paradigm of personnel policy - one that prioritizes professionalism, accountability, ethical standards, and institutional resilience as cornerstones of sustainable public administration
Death rituals for the living: Exploring the history and diversity of the shamanic death rituals in Korea
This article examines the diverse forms of shamanic death rituals observed in Korea from a historical perspective. Korean shamanism, or musok, is a highly dynamic form of faith centred on the figure of the shaman, associated rituals, and a worldview that has been passed down orally among shamans from generation to generation. It is important to note, however, that this worldview, and therefore the ritual itself, has never been fixed or unchangeable. To the contrary, Korean shamans have demonstrated the capacity for continual adaptation of their practices in response to the evolving needs of their society. This has been achieved by the adoption of elements from a variety of religious traditions, which has resulted in the continuous transformation, and even creation of new ritual forms. The death ritual performed when person is still alive, known as sanogu kut, is an exampleof this. This ongoing evolution has resulted in the rich diversity of shamanic death rituals observed in South Korea today. This article examines the diverse forms of shamanic death rituals observed in Korea from a historical perspective.
