Ibsen’s and Mrożek’s Peer Gynt
Get PDFThis essay compares Ibsen’s drama from 1867, Peer Gynt, with Sławomir Mrożek’s short story of the same title (published in Polish in 1958 and in English in 1962) through an examination of the absurdist tone present in both works. Mrożek is a preeminent literary figure in absurdist literature in Poland. He employs a direct allusion to Ibsen’s work in his title, but also reflects on Ibsen’s play and the character Peer in the themes, motifs, and techniques used throughout the short story. Ibsen’s Peer was a peasant in nineteenth-century Norway, while Mrożek’s Peer is congenially portrayed as a Polish para-communist with a peasant background.The intertextual reading is inspired by numerous allusions to other cultural texts and absurdist tone present in both works

Get PDFThe article is a reading of Johan Turi’s 1911 book Muitalus sámiid birra, in Norwegian Min bok om samene, through Mary Louise Pratt’s concept of autoethnography as an ethnography from an insider perspective which expresses Sámi identity and enters a dialogue with the colonialist depiction of the Sámi people. Turi’s book is also a literary work depicting “zones of contact”,which is Pratt’s term for areas where cultures meet and interact, as opposed to the “frontier” term, which treats the meeting of cultures solely from the perspective of the colonizers expanding their domain. Turi seeks to inform readers about the conflicts between the Sámi and the colonizers. The book can also be read as a political statement that asserts the Sámi have a right to existin their traditional lands and that their knowledge and culture have value

Get PDFNature has been a vital element of Māori culture since its very beginning. Māori understanding of the world around depends on natural references; nature is present as embedded in both time and space. Māori mythology acknowledges the Earth Mother and Sky Father as the first parents who gave life to the many Māori gods, but the figure of Mother Earth, or Papatūānuku, marks its presence far beyond the myth of creation: it is part of the worldview, spirituality and even daily life. Nadine Anne Hura’s poem was first published on The Spinoff platform on March 3, 2020 and has gained recognition due to its reposting by the New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern. Hura’s poem provides a compelling example of hope that can be found in the rhythms of a poem, and, in a wider context, through the way in which the poem underlines the importance of reestablishing a connection with nature and spiritual growth. Natura od samego początku stanowi istotny element kultury maoryskiej. Rozumienie otaczającego świata przez Maorysów opiera się na odniesienia do natury, dlatego też natura jest obecna jako część za-równo czasu, jak i miejsca. Mitologia maoryska uznaje Matkę Ziemię i Ojca Niebo jako pierwszych rodziców, którzy dali życie wielu maoryskim bogom, jednak postać Papatūānuku, Matki Ziemi, odznacza swą obecność dużo dalej niż sam mit o stworzeniu, jest ona częścią światopoglądu, religijności, a także życia codziennego. Wiersz autorstwa Nadine Anne Hury został po raz pierwszy opublikowany na platformie The Spinoff 3 marca 2020 r. i zyskał popularność dzięki temu, iż nowozelandzka premier Jacinda Ardern ponowiła jego publikację. Wiersz Hury stanowi niesamowity przykład nadziei, którą można zobaczyć w rytmie wiersza oraz, w szerszym kontekście, w sposobie, w jaki wiersz podkreśla istotę odnowienia więzi z naturą i rozwoju duchowego. 
Rola literatury w musicalu: O lokalnej tożsamości w kontekście globalnego gatunku na przykładzie Chłopów
Get PDFMusical theatre, from its beginnings, crosses artistic and literary boundaries, transforming novels (and other genres) into an experience that is a synthesis of the arts. The first part of the article explores how musicals reinterpret literary narratives, merging text, music, and movement to expand the possibilities of self-expression. The main part focuses on The Peasants (Chłopi), a musical adaptation directed by Wojciech Kościelniak (Gdynia, 2013), based on Władysław Reymont’s Nobel Prize-winning novel. Through a comparative analysis I examine how Kościelniak reimagines a rural, turn-of-the-century Polish narrative in the language of a global genre, musical theatre. This adaptation illustrates how the musical form transforms the themes and emotional registers of the novel, offering new interpretations while maintaining deep ties to its literary origins. As part of a wider trend of literary adaptations in Polish musical theatre The Peasants is an example of revitalising both tradition and universal storytelling.Teatr muzyczny od swoich początków przekracza artystyczne i literackie granice, przekształcając powieść (i inne gatunki) w spektakl będący syntezą sztuk. Pierwsza część artykułu stanowi prezentację tego, w jaki sposób musicale reinterpretują literaturę, łącząc tekst, muzykę i ruch, aby poszerzyć możliwości ekspresji. Główna część skupia się zaś na musicalowej adaptacji Chłopów, w reżyserii Wojciecha Kościelniaka (Gdynia, 2013), opartej na nagrodzonej Nagrodą Nobla powieści Władysława Reymonta. Poprzez analizę porównawczą rozważam, w jaki sposób Kościelniak prezentuje polską narrację o wiejskim życiu z przełomu wieków w języku globalnego gatunku, jakim jest musical. Adaptacja jest przykładem tego, w jaki sposób ta teatralna forma muzyczna przekształca tematy i rejestry emocjonalne powieści, oferując nową interpretację przy jednoczesnym zachowaniu głębokich powiązań z jej literackimi korzeniami. Wpisując się w szerszy trend adaptacji literackich w polskim teatrze muzycznym, Chłopi stanowią przykład ożywienia zarówno tradycji, jak i uniwersalnego sposobu opowiadania historii
Administrative Fines and the Administration of Justice
Get PDFThis study analyzes the issue of imposing administrative fines by public administration bodies in the Polish legal system. Using a dogmatic-legal method, the author verifies the thesis that the imposition of repressive administrative fines by executive authorities fulfills the material conditions of administration of justice and thus violates the constitutional boundary between the executive and judicial powers. Against the backdrop, he presents, among others, the police function of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority. The study, based on current and historical literature on the subject, judgments, and normative content, seeks the limits of punishment, drawing on the coexistence of judicial and administrative application of the law. The conclusions point to the need for a systemic correction of procedural and guarantee solutions in order to prevent the de facto transfer of judicial powers to non-judicial bodies
Fenotyp żeński w zespole nadpobudliwości psychoruchowej z deficytem uwagi (ADHD) oraz jego implikacje dla diagnostyki
Get PDFThis article will present the current findings and observations resulting from research on the female phenotype of ADHD, providing invaluable perspectives on the everyday challenges faced by women with this disorder. The analysis will focus on the difficulties and diagnostic challenges from a clinical perspective, related to the different presentation of symptoms in women, as well as the consequences of receiving a late diagnosis, particularly concerning well-being and mental health. Additionally, the article will shed light on the neurobiological perspective of the disorder. The aim of this publication is not only to raise awareness but also to encourage clinicians to reflect on the need to modify diagnostic methods concerning attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in women, which may contribute to improving their quality of life and ensuring adequate support and care.
Niniejszy artykuł zaprezentuje dotychczasowe wnioski i obserwacje wynikające z przeprowadzonych badań nad kobiecym fenotypem ADHD, które wnoszą bezcenną perspektywę do dyskursu nad codziennymi wyzwaniami, z jakimi mierzą się kobiety z tym zaburzeniem. Analizie poddane zostaną trudności i wyzwania diagnostyczne z perspektywy klinicznej, związane z odmienną prezentacją objawów u kobiet, jak również konsekwencje, jakie niesie za sobą późno otrzymana diagnoza, szczególnie w kontekście dobrostanu i zdrowia psychicznego. Artykuł ponadto przybliży perspektywę neurobiologiczną zaburzenia. Celem niniejszej publikacji jest nie tylko zwiększenie świadomości, lecz także próba zwrócenia uwagi na potrzebę modyfikacji metod diagnostycznych w odniesieniu do zespołu nadpobudliwości psychoruchowej z deficytem uwagi u kobiet, co może przyczynić się do poprawy ich jakości życia oraz zapewnienia adekwatnego wsparcia i opieki.

Get PDFThe interpenetration of the material world with intangible sensory impressions forms the foundation of the poetic connection between image and word, which holds a special place in Yves Bonnefoy’s work. The boundary between interpreting experiences and their condensation in text carries a certain responsibility, as the author argues (Bonnefoy 1990). The inability to transpose sensory impressions onto paper may lead to misunderstandings and distortions of meaning. The search for human presence, expressed through the establishment of poetic reality within a given space, along with connections to the sensory world—discovering texture, matter, and the viscosity of substances—allows for a nuanced portrayal of experiences. These are directly correlated with the immaterial realm, creating in Bonnefoy’s poetry a unique suspension between the physical world and metaphysics. Du mouvement et de l’immobilité de Douve represents a kind of progression, leading us from the darkness of death to light. The reader evolves alongside the text. Direct experience corresponds with an awareness of surrounding space, which embodies the eidos of material existence. Bonnefoy’s emphasis on the pursuit of truth, or reaching the essence of things, is directly linked to the assumptions of Husserlian phenomenology, which must constitute the foundation of the poetic image analysis here undertaken. This article seeks to offer a fresh reflection on the poetics of presence and suspension between the physical and the transcendental, between movement and stillness, expressed through the figure of Douve and her multidimensional nature—human, animal, and mineral. Following Bonnefoy’s surrealist techniques, we seemingly depart from reality, yet move closer to nature in all its forms, ultimately reaching the Vrai Lieu that concludes the collection. This is where the corporeal being remembers its finitude, and where the physical and spiritual meet at the boundary.
Przenikanie się świata materialnego z nienamacalnymi odczuciami zmysłowymi stoi u podstaw związków poetyckich między obrazem a słowem, które zajmują szczególne miejsce w twórczości Yvesa Bonnefoya. Pogranicze interpretacji przeżyć i ich kondensacja w tekście są, zdaniem autora, obarczone pewną odpowiedzialnością (Bonnefoy 1990); nieumiejętność transpozycji wrażeń zmysłowych na papier może skutkować nieporozumieniami i zniekształcać przekaz. Poszukiwanie obecności człowieka, wyrażane poprzez stanowienie rzeczywistości poetyckiej w określonej przestrzeni, a także związki ze światem zmysłowym – odkrywanie faktury, struktury materii, lepkości substancji – pozwalają na niuansowanie opisywanych przeżyć, które bezpośrednio skorelowane z poziomem niematerialnym tworzą w poezji Bonnefoya swoiste zawieszenie pomiędzy światem fizycznym a metafizyką. Du mouvement et de l’immobilité de Douve stanowi swego rodzaju progresję, wyprowadza nas z mroków śmierci ku światłu. Czytelnik ewoluuje wraz z tekstem. Bezpośrednie doświadczenie koresponduje ze świadomością otaczającej przestrzeni, co stanowi eidos istnienia materii. Dążenie do prawdy, na które kładzie nacisk Bonnefoy, czy też dotarcie do esencji rzeczy jest bezpośrednio sprzężone z założeniami Husserlowskiej fenomenologii, która stanowi fundament podejmowanej tu analizy obrazów poetyckich. Artykuł ma na celu podjęcie refleksji nad poetyką obecności i zawieszenia między fizycznym a pozazmysłowym, między ruchem a statycznością, wyrażającymi się w postaci Douve i jej wielowymiarowej naturze – ludzkiej, zwierzęcej, mineralnej. Podążając za Bonnefoyem, czerpiącym z technik surrealistycznych, pozornie odejdziemy od rzeczywistości, zbliżając się jednak do natury we wszystkich jej formach, by ostatecznie dotrzeć do prawdziwego miejsca, które zamyka zbiór. Jest to miejsce, w którym byt cielesny pamięta o swojej skończoności. To tutaj to, co fizyczne i duchowe spotyka się na granicy.
