Background:Alopecia is an autoimmune condition that results in hair loss, mainly from the scalp. There are three specific types of auto-immune alopecia: alopecia areata (AA; small patches of hair loss), alopecia totalis (AT; total hair loss from the scalp) and alopecia universalis (AU; total hair loss from the scalp and body). Whilst research has explored the experiences of White women living with alopecia, there is a lack of research exploring the impact of alopecia on women in the Black community. The current study aimed to explore Black women’s experience of living with autoimmune types of alopecia with a focus on the cultural importance of hair within the Black community and the impact of social support.Participants and procedure:Seven Black women (age range: 37-68 years; mean age: 51 years) were recruited purposively through alopecia support group organisations and social media to participate in a semi-structured interview; four participants were diagnosed with AA, two participants were diagnosed with AU, and one participant was diagnosed with AT. One-to-one interviews were conducted online, and interpretative phenomenological analysis was used to guide data collection and analysis. Results:Participants discussed the significance of hair specifically within the Black community and the complex relationship be-tween psychological wellbeing, coping and seeking support. Conclusions:This novel area, specific to Black women’s psychological experience of alopecia, acknowledges the influence of cultural and ethnic differences. The findings suggest that proactive awareness from health professionals and social support groups are needed due to the nuances of Black women’s alopecia experience to provide better support and to enhance the quality of life for Black women to manage their alopecia. Background:Alopecia is an autoimmune condition that results in hair loss, mainly from the scalp. This article serves as an introduction to the special issue of Beyond Philology entitled “Experiencing Textual Media: Contemporary Perspectives”. It takes into consideration the relative theoretical entrenchment that scholars tend to experience in their professional development. underlining its beneficial influence on the development of complex reading methodologies, while advocating for a revisionist position. The authors claim that the multimodal narrative culture of today demands systematic commentary that draws from tradition but responds to what is new. The long-standing schools of reading established at the Institute of English and American Studies are celebrated as foundational for the academic development of generations of scholars across Poland.Niniejszy artykuł stanowi wstęp do specjalnego numeru czasopisma Beyond Philology, zatytułowanego „Doświadczanie mediów tekstowych: współczesne perspektywy”.

The aim of the article is to elaborate on Salman Rushdie’s theory of intertextuality embedded in the concept of “influence” explained by the author in one of his essays from the collection Step Across This Line. Rushdie’s novel Haroun and the Sea of Stories is used here to illustrate the practical application of Rushdie’s theory. The novel does not only serve as a field for creative allusions to a body of literary texts, both from the Eastern and Western cultural circles, but it is also a metatext on the tradition and new ways of storytelling.

This research project delves into the transformative effects of parent training in the Pyramid Model on parental attitudes and strategies in nurturing children’s social-emotional competencies. The study aimed to investigate potential changes in parents’ perspectives towards child development and parenting practices that foster children’s social-emotional growth. Interviews were conducted with 41 parents from four different kindergartens, before and after the implementation of the Pyramid Model parent training. The results reveal a noteworthy shift in parental perspectives regarding child development, characterized by an increased emotional awarenessand an increase in their use of strategies to support children to effectively manage their emotions. However, the research also showed that post-training, parents still used shouting and bribing as parenting strategies and did not understand how to support young children’s problem-solving. The results underscore the need for targeted parent training and ongoing support to better align parental perspectives with their children’s social emotional needs. The findings emphasized the potential utility of Pyramid Model parent training to support parents to foster optimal social and emotional development in young children. This research project delves into the transformative effects of parent training in the Pyramid Model on parental attitudes and strategies in nurturing children’s social-emotional competencies.

The demographic crisis, caused by the low fertility rate, emigration from the Visegrad Group countries, or the so-called brain drain, significantly contributes to labor shortages in Poland, Czechia, Hungary, and Slovakia, negatively affecting economic growth. To address this issue, governments are implementing favorable policies, hoping to create a desirable environment for working migrants and mitigate labor shortages. Nevertheless, most of the migrants occupy elementary positions, and according to the basic theory of production, the output of the economy is non-linear in relation to the input of the factors of production such as labor. This raises the question of whether the current labor migration approach is a sustainable solution and whether it can ensure a continuation of the unprecedented economic growth that could have been observed in these countries in previous decades. The paper emphasizes the importance of the high-skilled migrants, who can drive innovation and technological development, ensuring the continuation of this momentum. Yet, the feasibility of the initiatives implemented by the European Union, such as the European Blue Card, remains rather questionable, as only approximately 30% of all the high-skilled migrants are choosing the European Union as their migration destination. W artykule podkreślone zostało znaczenie wysoko wykwalifikowanych migrantów, którzy mogą napędzać innowacje i rozwój technologiczny, zapewniając kontynuację dotychczasowego poziomu wzrostu gospodarczego. Jednak skuteczność inicjatyw wdrażanych przez Unię Europejską, takich jak Europejska Niebieska Karta, pozostaje wątpliwa, ponieważ jedynie około 30% wszystkich wysoko wykwalifikowanych migrantów wybiera Unię Europejską jako miejsce docelowej migracji

In view of the recently observed expansion of training dedicated to ‘enhancing resilience and lifelong learning’, and the renaissance of educational research in action, a discussion is proposed on the essence of this hybrid solution to the; burning’ problem of teachers’ psychological well‑being in the context of the paradigmatic backwardness of ‘didactics’ applied in the Polish public school. In this study, the scale and conditions of teachers’ well‑being in Poland are examined through the lens of empirical diagnoses. The findings reveal a complex interplay between cultural conditioning and the underlying theories that have been formulated, shedding light on the growing tensions that have been identified. The concept of public education, understood as education for the general public, is a subject of debate in the field of education. The discourse surrounding this concept often centres on two conflicting themes: the pursuit of customer satisfaction and the promotion of the public good. These two themes are often viewed as a dichotomy, with scholars such as Säfström and Biesta positing the notion of a paradox inherent in the concept of public education. In this text, the question is posed: to what extent can existing hybrid activities be extended and transformed to enhance community resilience? In view of the recently observed expansion of training dedicated to ‘enhancing resilience and lifelong learning’, and the renaissance of educational research in action, a discussion is proposed on the essence of this hybrid solution to the; burning’ problem of teachers’ psychological well‑being in the context of the paradigmatic backwardness of ‘didactics’ applied in the Polish public school. The article aims to examine how framing, as the way information is presented, affects the investment decisions of 21st-century beginners who often obtain knowledge from the Internet, YouTube, blogs or podcasts. Still, they rarely verify it, making investors, especially those from Generation Z. The study was conducted among 200 students of the University of Gdańsk using an online survey and an experiment inspired by the research of A.Tversky and D. Kahneman. The results showed that young investors are more willing to make investment decisions when the information is presented positively, even if its content is substantively identical to negatively worded messages. Investors most often obtain knowledge from the Internet, YouTube, blogs or podcasts, but they rarely verify it, which makes them susceptible to manipulation and cognitive errors. The study also showed that owning a premium brand phone (e.g. Apple) may increase the willingness to invest in technology companies. The findings suggest that novice investors often overestimate their financial competencies, are more susceptible to framing than experienced people, and need education in critical thinking and analysis of investment data. The study shows how important it is to consciously approach the impact that framing can have on consumer decisions. The framing effect shows how the way information is presented influences decisions even though the expected results are identical. Awareness of this influence allows you to make more rational decisions as a consumer or investor.

The aim of this article is to present and briefly describe the periodicals related to the Polish diaspora in India which are in the collection of the National Ossoliński Institute. The National Ossoliński Institute collection consists of seven titles: Bahuvachan, I ja i Ty – Walczymy z trądem (And I and You – We Fight Leprosy), Młodzi (The Young), Polak w Indiach (The Pole in India), Skaut – wiadomości urzędowe (Scout – Official News), Słoniątko Indyjskie (Indian Elephant), and W Kręgu Wodzów (In the Circle of Chiefs). For researchers into the experience of the Polish diaspora in India in the years 1942– 1948 the most valuable title is undoubtedly Polak w Indiach, which has survived almost in its entirety. An important group of periodicals, which may offer a valuable supplement to research on the activity of Poles at various levels in India, are also children’s and scouting magazines; one of the most interesting titles and one worth recommending is Słoniątko Indyjskie. On the other hand, I ja i Ty – Walczymy z trądem, although the National Ossoliński Institute collection has only one issue, may be an important source for historians dealing with the subject of the social and medical activities of Polish missionaries in India. Bahuvachan is valuable for research on the translation of Indian literature into English and the popularization of Indian art.The aim of this article is to present and briefly describe the periodicals related to the Polish diaspora in India which are in the collection of the National Ossoliński Institute.
