Teachers’ Attitudes about the Feasibility of Using ChatGPT in English Classes: The Case Study of EFL Teachers at Khenchela University
It is becoming prevalent nowadays to resort to artificial intelligence tools to find solutions to problems considered new or challenging. One example of these tools is Chat GPT. Even though practitioners in the educational arena consider the functions of Chat GPT as extraordinary, they have always complained about the manifested overdependence upon this tool. This work aims at gauging teachers’ attitudes about the feasibility of using Chat GPT in classes of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Conducting this research can help teachers and students ascertain the right way of using Chat GPT and the areas wherein this tool can be most productive. Accordingly, a semi-structured interview with seven teachers at the Department of English at Khenchela University was conducted. Findings maintained that EFL teachers at Khenchela University do not support the implementation of Chat GPT in their classes because learners’ performance would be devoid of all cultural, affective, and interactive attributes. Accordingly, choosing to use Chat GPT in language-based classes should be accompanied by some working knowledge about the way this tool can help students acquire the language and enhance their performance in the four language skills
L’Intelligence artificielle à l’université: Questions pratiques et enjeux éthiques
L’utilisation par les étudiants à l’université de l’intelligence artificielle générative est une réalité palpable. Cet article présente les résultats d’une enquête exploratoire réalisée auprès d’étudiants universitaires avec l’objectif de mettre en lumière l’usage et les pratiques qu’en font ces derniers lorsqu’ils réalisent des travaux. Loin d’être exhaustive, cette contribution montre que cet usage est déjà ancré dans les pratiques estudiantines : résolution de problèmes, génération de contenus, notamment du texte et des images... Alors que beaucoup d’étudiants ont déjà adoptée des outils intégrant l’intelligence artificielle générative à l’exemple de CHATGPT ou GIMINI, des inquiétudes sont exprimées par des chercheurs et des enseignants qui critiquent la négligence de la dimension éthique quant à l’usage de ces outils. Ils craignent que le plagiat et la fraude deviennent des pratiques répandues parmi les étudiants et que l’usage de cette technologie devienne incontrôlable au niveau de l’enseignement supérieur
ميول أساتذة التعليم العالي في الجزائر نحو استخدام تطبيقات الذكاء الاصطناعي لتحقيق معايير الجودة في العملية التعليمية –دراسة ميدانية بجامعة 08 ماي 1945 قالمة-
تهدف هذه الدراسة للكشف عن ميول أساتذة التعليم العالي في الجزائر لاستخدام تطبيقات الذكاء الاصطناعي والمساهمة في تحقيق معايير الجودة في العملية التعليمية، ورصد عوائق وصعوبات استخدام وتوظيف تطبيقات الذكاء الاصطناعي من وجهة نظر أساتذة التعليم العالي. واعتمدت الدراسة على المنهج الوصفي، وعينة متكونة من 140 مفردة من أساتذة جامعة 08 ماي 1945 بقالمة، وتم استخدام الاستبيان كأداة لجمع البيانات بعد التحقق من الصدق والثبات. وتوصلت الدراسة إلى وجود ميول إيجابية لدى الأساتذة نحو توظيف هذه التكنولوجيا لتحقيق معايير الجودة في العملية التعليمية. كما تتمثل أبرز العوائق والصعوبات المرتبطة باستخدام الذكاء الاصطناعي في العملية التعليمية من وجهة نظر أساتذة التعليم العالي في العوائق التقنية والتنظيمية والمادية، بالإضافة إلى نقص تأهيل وتدريب الطلبة والأساتذة ومشاكل تخص الأمن المعلوماتي والملكية الفكرية
‘Put Your Hands in the Air! And Keep Them There’: A Critical Discourse Analysis of Anti-racism in Black Standup Comedy: The Case of Trevor Noah
The present article investigates the use of anti-racist humor as a form of resistance. More specifically, it looks into the workings of anti-racism to challenge the held prejudice against black people. The focus is on the linguistic aspect of anti-racist resistance. The study analyses two shows of Trevor Noah, a black standup comedian, in light of the forty-five techniques comedians use. The successful incorporation of many humor techniques in tackling and reversing the sensitive issues of racism and prejudice explains why such a comedy genre is popular among audiences. According to the findings, Noah has indeed incorporated many of those techniques to give his jokes the intended impact on the audience. These techniques, giving prominence to the jokes, can help better understand the racial stereotypes within societies marked by racism thus, leading to more efficient approaches to addressing it
Ancient Wisdom on Combating Money Laundering & Terrorism Financing: A Solution from a 1400-Year Old BOOK
The modern AML and CTF regulations reflect ancient moral and ethical guidance from Islamic scripture. In our modern world, combating money laundering and terrorism financing has become a pressing global concern. Governments, financial institutions, and law enforcement agencies around the world are constantly striving to develop new strategies and technologies to combat these illicit activities. However, what if the solution to this age-old problem lies in ancient wisdom? Surprisingly, a 1400-year-old book offers valuable insights and guidance on how to tackle money laundering and terrorism financing effectively. Islamic teachings in the Quran strongly emphasize honesty, trustworthiness, fairness, justice, charity, and social responsibility. In Quran Surah Al Ahzab Verse 70 “O you who believe! Have Taqwa of Allah and speak (always) the truth”. Meaning, to speak straightforwardly, with no crookedness or distortion. Surah Al-Baqarah, 2-Verse 42 “And do not mix up the truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth deliberately.” In the modern age, financial crimes such as money laundering, and terrorist financing, pose significant threats to global economic stability and security. The Quran\u27s teachings on financial ethics emphasize transparency and accountability, which are crucial in combating modern financial crimes. The core theme of this paper centers on direct quotes from the Quran, where Allah (God) clearly commands His followers to uphold global security and social justice as fundamental purposes of Islam. These teachings highlight the responsibility of Muslims to ensure fairness in their dealings and to support structures that promote peace and justice across the world. The Quran\u27s teachings from 1,400 years ago are remarkably relevant to modern definitions of money laundering and terrorism financing. These timeless principles continue to provide valuable insights into creating ethical and secure financial systems that protect against corruption, fraud, and the funding of terrorism. This paper argues that modern anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing laws are not novel concepts but are rooted in teachings from the Holy Quran
Unveiling Emotional Landscape: A Sentiment Expedition into Instagram Play Store and App Store Reviews using TextBlob
Using natural language processing techniques applied to user evaluations from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, this article analyzes and predicts user sentiment toward Instagram. Understanding user sentiment trends, visualizing changes in user satisfaction, and forecasting future sentiment patterns are the main goals, providing app developers with insightful information. Our approach is divided into three phases: future sentiment predictions, periodic trend visualization, and sentiment extraction. We utilize TextBlob, a Python-based natural language processing package that can handle important tasks including sentiment analysis, tokenization, lemmatization, and part-of-speech tagging, for sentiment extraction. We provide an immediate overview of user viewpoints by using TextBlob to record and classify user input into positive, negative, and neutral attitudes. To see trends and spot notable shifts in user satisfaction, we then create a time-phase model that shows sentiment differences over a monthly period. We apply an Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average model from the statsmodel package to forecast sentiment trends over the next two months by analyzing historical sentiment data. According to experimental results, our model predicts user attitudes toward the Instagram program with high reliability, achieving an accuracy of 93.27% when comparing predicted sentiment with actual reviews. By providing a thorough method for sentiment analysis and prediction in social media app evaluations, this work implies that these models can be proactive tools for raising user satisfaction while improving app features in response to expected user input
Sociocultural and Identity Dynamics Reflected in the Choice of Names in School Textbooks
This research delves into the impact and significance of proper names in textbooks, with a particular focus on their ability to influence the cultural and social identity of students. By examining the selection and use of first names within these educational materials, the goal is to uncover how they reflect sociocultural interactions and contribute to education on diversity as well as the socialization of students. Situated in an educational context where issues of diversity and inclusion are becoming increasingly central, this study highlights the need to adopt teaching strategies that embrace and valorize the diversity of identities and cultural heritages. The study reveals that proper names in textbooks not only mirror societal norms and values but also serve as powerful tools for fostering inclusivity and promoting awareness of diverse cultural identities. Effective integration of diverse names can significantly enhance students\u27 understanding of cultural heritage and social identity dynamics, while poor representation may perpetuate stereotypes or exclusions
D’une collaboration interprofessionnelle à l’interdisciplinarité : Interdépendance dans la formation professionnalisante qatarienne
Bien qu’il soit indéniable que la formation contribue à la consolidation des acquis, elle semble, à bien des égards, s’imprégner d’une perspective pourvue de cloisonnement disciplinaire. Dès lors, les enseignants issus de disciplines analogues sont conviés à se concerter afin qu’en résulte une efficience pédagogique. Une injonction à la collaboration interprofessionnelle peu en adéquation avec la mouvance de la sphère pédagogique. Lors d’un stage de courte durée au Qatar, il nous a été possible de percevoir l’intérêt accru porté à la formation professionnalisante interdisciplinaire. Des actants pédagogiques tant des sciences formelles, sociales, naturelles que techniques se réunissent afin que le partage qui en résulte contribue à l’efficience de l’acte pédagogique. D’une injonction à la collaboration interprofessionnelle s’ensuit une collaboration interdisciplinaire. Ainsi, outillés de deux grilles d’observation, nous avons souhaité rendre compte de cette expérience de formation afin de mettre en relief, en premier lieu, les spécificités de cette approche tout en analysant le degré de dépendance. The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Algerian Learners\u27 Critical Thinking
This study seeks to investigate the perspectives of Algerian university teachers about the challenges that arise when learners use artificial intelligence tools in their academic endeavours, and the potential impact of these challenges on the quality of education and academic outcomes. Identifying the potential impact of these challenges allows for the development of strategies that can mitigate potential negative impacts, and ensures that artificial intelligence serves as a beneficial resource rather than a hindrance. This research used a mixed-methods case study design, using quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis methods to comprehensively investigate and analyse the identified challenges. The study included 60 teachers from three Algerian universities during the 2023 academic year. The identified issues include overreliance on technology, superficial learning, lack of creativity and innovation, academic dishonesty, and lack of collaborative learning. These results emphasize the need for further research to develop methods that enhance cognitive achievement and quality learning in Algeria.
