The Self Narrating the Other: Between Colonial Literature and Algerian Literature Written in French
The colonial past continues to affect Algeria\u27s cultural present, and many issues related to memory remain unresolved. Algeria’s colonial history unfolded in multiple phases, some of which have received considerable scholarly attention, while others remain relatively neglected. This article focuses on one such underexplored period, described by Abdelkader Jaghloul as sous-étudiée (“insufficiently studied”), despite its significance for understanding both contemporary Algerian literature and the current cultural and social realities of Algeria. The period in question—roughly spanning from 1900 to 1935—has been identified by Jean Déjeux as “Algérianism” in the context of French literature, and as “assimilationism” from the perspective of Algerian literature written in French. This study poses the following question: How were the coloniser and the colonised represented in the literature of this period? It seeks to answer this by presenting and comparing literary works by French authors such as Louis Bertrand, Robert Randau, and Albert Truphémus, alongside Algerian writers such as Mohamed Ould Cheikh, Abdelkader Hadj Hammou, and Shukri Khoudja
A Neurocognitive Study to the Relationship between Brain Processing of Musical Rhythm and Executive-Linguistic Activation
This paper investigates the structural and functional relationships linking musical rhythm processing with executive functions and language. Focusing on a neurocognitive perspective, it examines how specific cortical structures are activated and how this activation, influenced by the brain\u27s processing of musical rhythm, impacts executive and linguistic functions. Using a descriptive-analytical approach to functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) topography results, we synthesized findings from relevant studies. These studies consistently indicate a synchronized and hierarchical relationship between brain rhythm changes, revealing that these oscillatory patterns are susceptible to external stimulatory interventions. To clarify the role of musical rhythm, we focus on the core determinants of neuropsychological processing: time and rhythm itself. A significant number of cortical and subcortical structures are implicated in musical rhythm processing, including the frontal lobes, superior temporal lobes, hypothalamus, basal nuclei, cerebellum, and suprachiasmatic nucleus, operating within primary and secondary networks. Language function plays an intermediary role in this complex processing and is intrinsically linked to the cognitive processes activated during rhythmic processing of musical tones. This paper addresses a research gap by exploring the combined influence of executive functioning and language on musical rhythm processing. The study demonstrates a functional integration between executive and linguistic functions, enhanced by rhythmic musical processing. Furthermore, the overlap between rhythmic processing and executive function activities highlights the potential for designing novel rehabilitation strategies for language deficits or cognitive decline associated with aging
Self-Regulated Learning and its Relation to Achievement Motivation among University Students in the Context of Online Learning After the COVID-19
This study aims to understand the nature of the relationship between self-regulated learning and academic achievement motivation in the context of distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic among university students. The contemporary approach to the learning process is based on self-organization and the extent to which university students can stimulate their motivation to increase their knowledge, control the educational tasks they face, and deal with them in creative ways and ideas. We adopted a descriptive-analytical approach to conduct this study on a sample of (205) male and female second-year bachelor\u27s students from the Social Sciences Department with all its specializations. They were selected using a systematic random sampling method, where they were administered the Self-Regulated Learning Scale (2020) and the Academic Achievement Motivation Scale by Al-Musharrafieh (2012). After using the necessary statistical methods to process the data, the results revealed a statistically significant relationship between self-regulated learning and academic achievement motivation among the sample individuals, with significant statistical differences in the average ranks of self-regulated learning among the specializations of the Social Sciences Department, and no significant differences in terms of academic achievement motivation scores
Teachers\u27 Perceptions towards Using Artificial Intelligence Applications in Algerian Higher Education
This study aimed to reveal the perceptions of teachers towards the uses of artificial intelligence applications in Algerian universities, based on the ongoing controversy over the integration of these applications into university education. In contrast to the gains achieved in raising the level of higher education, there are many challenges and material, technical, financial and human requirements that may not be available at the level of infrastructure in Algerian universities, which created an incentive to identify different solutions and proposals for the optimal exploitation of this field in university education as it is the latest result of digital development in various fields. The study used the descriptive survey method for a sample of teachers in Algerian universities, through an electronic questionnaire. The study reached a set of results, the most important of which is the emphasis on the necessity of using artificial intelligence applications in the educational process by university teachers, and in return providing the necessary capabilities to activate their use by opening formative training courses, including academic courses in this field, and following a governmental approach that includes supporting artificial intelligence policies across Algerian university institutions
Teachers’ Emotional Engagement with Artificial Intelligence: The Case of Algerian EFL University Teachers
In today\u27s world, technological advancements serve to simplify learning and teaching,. That said, the abundance of tools and information can overwhelm both teachers and learners, sometimes causing technology-related anxiety. The present research aims to identify EFL university teachers’ emotional engagement with Artificial Intelligence. Unveiling teachers’ sources of fear and anxiety towards Artificial Intelligence and understanding their emotional responses can have practical implications for their effective implementation of these new technological tools, To achieve the aim of the present study, an Artificial Intelligence emotional survey was designed and administered to 21 Algerian EFL teachers at Mouloud MAMMERI University, in the Department of English, to assess their emotional engagement with various Artificial Intelligence tools. The survey comprises three sections. The questions were designed based on Y.Y. Wang and Y.S. Wang\u27s (2022) artificial intelligence anxiety scale. The findings indicate that most teachers do not display negative emotions towards learning Artificial Intelligence technology. However, they view it as a significant contributor to dependency and laziness
Artificial Intelligence and Human Cognition: A Systematic Review of Thought Provocation through AI ChatGPT Prompts
This paper aims to provide a conceptual investigation over exploring the emergent processes and explanations formulated by a capacity to think, especially when extending reasoning abilities over an AI prompt, such as ChatGPT. These emergencies conceptualize special pathways, forcing human-like frameworks and processes of thought to be instanced, often covering personal qualifiers, in addition to motivations and other personal and emotional idiosyncrasies. Investigating and calling such processes thought whilst pulling for this instance human-like cognitive and behavioral articulation can provide us not only with an interesting standpoint counter to standard platonic maneuvers in cognitive science and AI but can also be utilised and reappraising to more useful and socio-culturally molar notions of optimization, embeddedness, intelligence, soft consciousness, and learning processes
Environmental and Colonial Dynamics: Turkey\u27s Invasion of Kurdistan of Iraq in 21st-Century Postcolonial Literature
This study examines the intersection of climate change and colonialism through the lens of Turkey\u27s military intervention in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. It explores how environmental degradation, historical injustices, and geopolitical conflicts intertwine in shaping socio-ecological dynamics in the region. The analysis focuses on Turkey\u27s colonial narratives, environmental impacts of military actions, and literary representations from Kurdish authors documenting displacement and ecological vulnerabilities. Drawing on postcolonial literature and environmental justice frameworks, the study highlights Kurdish resilience, community-led adaptation strategies, and calls for global solidarity in addressing environmental injustices. By synthesizing empirical data with theoretical insights, this research contributes to broader discussions on climate justice, sustainable development, and the implications of colonial interventions on local environments and communities
The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Algerian Learners\u27 Critical Thinking
This study seeks to investigate the perspectives of Algerian university teachers about the challenges that arise when learners use artificial intelligence tools in their academic endeavours, and the potential impact of these challenges on the quality of education and academic outcomes. Identifying the potential impact of these challenges allows for the development of strategies that can mitigate potential negative impacts, and ensures that artificial intelligence serves as a beneficial resource rather than a hindrance. This research used a mixed-methods case study design, using quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis methods to comprehensively investigate and analyse the identified challenges. The study included 60 teachers from three Algerian universities during the 2023 academic year. The identified issues include overreliance on technology, superficial learning, lack of creativity and innovation, academic dishonesty, and lack of collaborative learning. These results emphasize the need for further research to develop methods that enhance cognitive achievement and quality learning in Algeria.

Drifting from the Earth towards Death: A Study of Stephen Kekeghe’s Rumbling Sky
Ecological and sociological studies are generally intertwined, especially in literary surveys. The neglect of the earth ultimately leads to the death of society which supplies the ingredients of corruption which also impacts negatively on the polity. This is a trajectory in today’s poetics and the concern of this study. Environmental literature, which gives ecological issues a prime place, focuses on the elevation of awareness about environmental justice, the preservation of the earth and the espousal of nature in both literary discourse and physical realism. The need for this direction was generated to save the environment including humanity. This is the thrust of engagement in this paper, which takes Stephen Kekeghe’s Rumbling Sky as its primary text. The paper found that the environment is not being treated justly, rather it has been grievously abused. Intermingling with this injustice to the environment is the corrupt engagement of the people, especially those in power. The consequence of this is the death of the waters and forests, the land and air and the inhabitants of these, especially within the Niger Delta. In the face of the discovery, the paper concludes that there is a general drift from the earth which ought to breed life towards death due to humanity’s attitudes and actions. The significance of this study will be the raising of awareness about environmental justice and the preservation of nature to promote the relationships among humans and the flora and fauna and as such keep all alive
