Vládní rozhodnutí uzavřít všechny vzdělávací instituce v České republice kvůli pandemii COVID-19 a přesunout proces výuky a učení do online prostředí mělo dopad i na vysokoškolské přípravné vzdělávání budoucích učitelů angličtiny. Kontext byl tedy silně ovlivněn okolnostmi globální From Virtual to Physical: Insights into Student English Language Teachers’ Perceptions of Preparedness for Face-to-Face Placement Practice Teaching pandemie. Since the beginning of the third decade of the 21st century, teachers of all levels of education have been experiencing turbulent times. Beginner teachers as well as experienced ones have been forced to rethink their skillset to reflect the changes not only in opportunities provided by the development of technology and globalisation but also the sudden, unexpected consequences of the global pandemic. The governmental decision to close all educational institutions in the Czech Republic because of the COVID-19 pandemic and to move the teaching and learning process into an online environment had an impact on university initial teacher education for future teachers of English, among others. Everyone had to cope with the challenges the situation brought about; educators had to re-evaluate their approach to initial teacher education so that their students would feel better prepared for the challenges of the crisis. Teacher educators, among others, have embraced the changing environment and have been actively searching for ways to best support students in their preparation for the teaching profession. The aim of this paper is to present and discuss the results of research conducted at the Department of English and American Studies at a regional Czech university in response to the consequences of the pandemic. The aim of the small-scale study was to explore student teachers’ perceptions of whether and how their microteaching sessions, conducted online because of the pandemic restrictions, prepared them for their face-to-face placement practice teaching the following semester. The context, therefore, was heavily influenced by the circumstances of the global pandemic. The theoretical framework of the initial English language teacher education programme, and of this paper, is based on the models of teacher professionalism (Spilková, 2019), the reflective practitioner (Černá, Píšová, & Vlčková, 2017), and the realistic approach (Korthagen et al., 2001). In the study, the data from reflection sessions, two focus group discussions, and a questionnaire were collected, analysed, and evaluated. The participants in the study were second-year bachelor students of the English for Education programme. The results of the research indicate that the students did not see the aims and content of the selected study programme as being affected by changes of external conditions; however, the processes of their professional learning were perceived as having been affected. These outcomes are in alignment with the research of Yochanna and Levy (2022) into the effective implementation of microteaching practice in teacher preparation. The implications of this study, in terms of both education and research, suggest that initial teacher education for future teachers of English needs to address the challenge of enabling the students to get ready for their profession regardless of whether they are teaching online or face-to-face classes. Initial teacher education should aim to prepare future teachers to expect the unexpected, which is a theme to be explored in further research

Current Perspectives on the Category of Well-being

Mnozí čeští autoři tento pojem nepřekládají a pracují s celosvětově používaným anglickým termínem well-being. This review study focuses on a concept that has attracted increased interest among experts of various disciplines in recent decades, although its foundations were laid by philosophers as early as ancient Greece (see the two basic approaches – hedonism and eudaimonism). Moreover, it is a concept for which it is difficult to find a Czech equivalent. Many Czech authors do not translate this term and work with the globally used English term well-being. Another group of Czech authors works with the term “pohoda” or “osobní pohoda”. The interpretation of the whole issue is divided into eight parts. The first part presents the long history of the term well-being and its transformations from antiquity to the present day. The second part summarises current efforts to define well-being and points out that experts have not yet reached a consensus. The third part offers an overview of the whole spectrum of theories of well-being and seeks to explain what they are based on, what they emphasize and how they can be used. The fourth part is interesting in that it shows how the different disciplines differ from each other in their understanding of and work with well-being. The following disciplines have been chosen to illustrate this: medicine, education, psychology, sociology and the latest trend – a multidisciplinary approach. The fifth part of the review study presents different types of well-being that appear in the international literature. Our analysis identified a total of 30 different types of well-being. The sixth part of the interpretation focuses on diagnosing well-being. It offers a set of 21 questionnaires measuring well-being in children, adolescents and adults. The seventh part chooses a topic of interest to the general public as it considers current knowledge about well-being and discomfort in the school setting. The final, eighth, part of the review offers a look at interventions that seek to improve well-being levels in children and adolescents

Studie zdůrazňuje důležitost uznání dějinnosti materiálních objektů v historických vyprávěních a nabízí nuancované porozumění odbojovým aktivitám žen a širší podněty pro posthumanistické přemýšlení o identitě a subjektivitě.This study investigates the role of women\u27s coats as active participants in various resistance movements across Central Europe from 1935 to 1953, employing a posthumanist framework to reexamine issues of subjectivity. By integrating theories of material culture and new materialism, the research moves beyond traditional anthropocentric views to highlight the dynamic inter-actions between women and their coats within a resistance context. This approach demonstrates that the garments were not merely passive symbols of defiance but multifaceted tools that provided physical protection, facilitated the covert transmission of messages and materials and reinforced the wearers\u27 resolve and solidarity. Through historical analyses, personal testimonies and cultural artifacts, this study demonstrates how coats functioned as co-agents in resistance activities, both shaping and being shaped by the social, cultural, and political landscapes of the time. The study underscores the importance of recognizing the agency of material objects in historical narratives, offering a nuanced understanding of women\u27s resistance activities and the broader implications for posthumanist thinking on identity and subjectivity

What is the Anthropologization of History Good for? A Few Comments on the Counterproductive Polarization of Cognitive Interests in Humanities

This contribution aims to review the axiomatic premises of neurophysiology, psychoanalysis and deconstructionism (in their most extreme forms), and to discuss correspondences and differences in the concepts of humanness on which they are based. This discussion will reveal the high degree of similarity in these underlying concepts. Both sociobiology and psychoanalysis in effect negate human free will to a great extent with their explanations of behaviour as the result of a limited repertoire of basic drives or biochemically regulated patterns. Deconstructionism, on the other hand, while seeming to reject this approach, is in fact ultimatey also grounded in psychoanalytical axioms. On this basis, the value of further pursuing these epistemological paths appears questionable. If work is oriented around recognising the limits of the explainable, in the sense of a classic hermeneutic circle, then it would seem more useful to return to more modest goals, which can only be realised within the context of comprehensive historical and cultural contextualisation. The processes in which human patterns of interpretation and action emerge and are transformed can be reduced neither to "unconscious" drives nor to the autonomous perception of the body by a subject, and nor can they be interpreted as mere de-materialised language. This contribution aims to review the axiomatic premises of neurophysiology, psychoanalysis and deconstructionism (in their most extreme forms), and to discuss correspondences and differences in the concepts of humanness on which they are based.
