The Wake of HCE in Shaun the Postman: Duality, Sameness and Universality in James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake
James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake constitutes one of the highest artistic expressions of modernist literature in the English language. The novel’s departure from realist conventions and its intricate language invite challenging interpretations, fostering an exploration of the narrative in terms of an imitation or reimagination of reality. The distinctive nature of the protagonist’s family, embodying real and metaphorical elements, suggests a potential fusion among the different members. In this regard, this paper focuses on the interpretation of the main male characters – father and sons – as both diverse entities and a unified presence simultaneously, and on the potential rebirth of HCE into Shaun, revealing this fatherly-filial connection especially in the concluding chapters. Central to this exploration is the examination of the concept of “duality”, shedding light on the amalgamation and reimagining of characters into these separate and unified identities. The interplay of characters, particularly the twins, is interpreted as facets of a singular entity, portraying HCE embodying both and affiliating with various characters representing Shaun. Ultimately, the paper aims to unravel the complexities of HCE’s transformation into his son by dissecting the intricacies of duality, sameness and universality throughout the novel
Let us learn to look and sing. The art and music conference at the Faculty of education of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen
The interdisciplinary art and music conference, held on November 1, 2024, at the Faculty of Education, University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, in collaboration with the Faculty of Education, Charles University, addressed the revision of the Framework Education Programme for Basic Education (RVP ZV) in the field of Arts and Culture. Experts and educators expressed concerns regarding the integration of Visual Art Education with Film and Audiovisual Education and Music Education with Drama and Dance Education. The conference facilitated discussions on maintaining the integrity of visual art and music education while integrating other artistic disciplines. Key topics included curriculum development, interdisciplinary art comparatistics, and digital and audiovisual literacy. The debate highlighted the necessity of preserving core arts education disciplines, ensuring equal access to quality education, and fostering critical and creative thinking. The conference proceedings will be published in a professional monograph, structured around three thematic areas: Curriculum and Educational Content of Arts Education, Artistic Comparison, and Digital and Audiovisual Literacy. Creativity in music education or some notes on creative music activities
The publication Chapters in Creative Music Activities (2024) presents an interdisciplinary perspective on creativity in music education, exploring both theoretical and practical foundations. The authors integrate insights from neuroscience, music psychology, and technological innovations with specific pedagogical approaches. The book offers a theoretical reflection on creativity in music education, an overview of current research, and practical model situations that support students\u27 musical creativity. A key aspect of the publication is the emphasis on the teacher’s role, including the prevention of vocal fatigue, and the integration of creative musical activities within a holistic educational approach. The text responds to contemporary challenges in music pedagogy and provides inspiration for innovative practices in both Czech and international contexts. The publication Chapters in Creative Music Activities (2024) presents an interdisciplinary perspective on creativity in music education, exploring both theoretical and practical foundations. EDITOR’S NOTES
This special issue delves into the complexities of decolonization efforts within museums across Central, Eastern, and Southern Europe. These regions, frequently overlooked in global conversations on provenance research and restitution politics, present unique historical and cultural challenges. The focus of this issue is on how museums in these areas engage with their collections – collectionsshaped by imperialism, internal colonialism, and ideological legacies.Through a series of case studies and theoretical explorations, this issue aims to shed light on how these museums are confronting their pasts and reevaluating their roles in contemporary cultural and political landscapes

The presented study has mapped the media representation of selected geological terms related to the educational topic of "Evolution of Organisms on Earth" and has analyzed their educational potential for lower and higher secondary school levels. The content analysis of 114 online articles from the top fifteen most-read media websites, derived from the Anopress database, has focused on the context of usage, the level of explanation of geological terms, and the usability of online articles for teaching. The results have shown that 69 % of the analyzed articles have not explained the selected geological terms according to their definitions, and 71 % of the articles cannot be used to teach the studied subject. They also indicate that commonly available online media content often provides pupils with a superficial understanding of geological terms and topics and cannot be used to form their preconceptions, rather it tends to generate misconceptions. The style and presentation of information in the media do not correspond to the needs of classroom practice
Manhattanská a maximová metrika v úlohách školské geometrie
Příspěvek propojuje geometrické vlastnosti hvězdicových mnohoúhelníků s aritmetikou celých čísel a s relacemi kongruence.
