Music Education in the 21st Century: Approaches and Challenge

The Social Production of the Library Space
Get PDFThe article is based on my bachelor’s thesis, in which I used the ethnographic method to investigate the various aspects that influence the character and activities of a specific library branch. The research aim was to investigate the ongoing social production of library space, examining how different actors, perceptions, relationships, and practices contribute to this process. First, I discuss the physical division of space and its mutual reproduction with organizational structure, whereby highlighting how the librarians’ experience of space can differ from that of readers. Next, I describe the processes of acquiring, placing, organizing, and labelling books, describing how librarians fulfil their roles based on their perceptions of the library and their place within it. After that, I analyze the space in terms of the functions that are embedded in it, linking these conceptions to the roles that books and librarians play within the library. Oba myslitelé sdíleli mnohé společné výzvy a úkoly. Oba žili v emigraci v době komunistické totality. Jeho autobiografie a biografie o jeho životě jsou velmi oblíbené, a proto jsou vhodným zdrojem pro výzkum teorií biografie a studií paměti. Tento text porovnává jeho autobiografii, Karel Gott: Má cesta za štěstím (2021), a biografii Gott: Československý příběh (2021), kterou napsal Pavel Klusák, a zaměřuje se především na jejich recepci (recenze v masmédiích a na webových platformách pro čtenáře). Zamýšlíme se nad tím, jak rozdíly v žánrech autobiografie a biografie ovlivňují recepci určitých knih a jak se tyto biografie zapojují do aktuálních debat v oblasti studií paměti. Odpovědí na tyto otázky se tento text snaží prozkoumat roli biografického psaní v současné kultuře vzpomínání.Karel Gott (1939–2019) was one of the most popular singers and popstars in Czechoslovakia during 20th and 21st century. His autobiography and biographies on his life are very popular and thus they are suitable sources for research on the theories of biography and memory studies. This text compares his autobiography, Karel Gott: Má cesta za štěstím (2021) and the biography Gott: Československý příběh (2021), written by Pavel Klusák, and focuses primarily on their reception (reviews in mass media and on web platforms for readers). We consider how do differences in the genres of autobiography and biography influence the reception of certain books? How do these biographies get involved into current debates in memory studies? Through answering these questions, this text aims to examine the role of biographical writing in contemporary cultures of remembrance

Get PDFTato esej se zabývá oblastí současné biografie, tj. biografickým výzkumem živých osob prováděným v oblasti historických věd. Zvláštní důraz je kladen na orální historii a její využití ve vybraných biografiích, starších i novějších, které slouží jako příklady několika specifik tohoto přístupu. Autorka dále nachází dvě ideálnětypické role, které může hlavní protagonista v tomto typu biografického psaní hrát, obě participativní, přičemž první je relativně „tichá“ a druhá „hlasitější“. Esej se dotýká problémů, jako je vyjednávání rolí výzkumníků a výzkumného subjektu, autorizace, etika výzkumu, současná legislativa a klady a zápory tohoto přístupu. V širším smyslu si tento článek klade za cíl rozšířit spektrum teoretické a metodologické diskuse v oblasti biografických studií. Ilustruje také, že současné biografie založené na ústní historii mají dlouhou tradici, z níž můžeme čerpat pro naše budoucí projekty.This essay explores the area of contemporary biography, i.e., biographical research about living people conducted in the field of historical sciences. A special emphasis is put on oral history and its use in selected biographies, older and recent, which serve as examples of several specificities of this approach. Furthermore, the author finds two ideal-typical roles that the main protagonist may play in this type of biographical writing, both participative, with the first being relatively “silent” and the second more “vocal.” The essay touches on problems such as negotiating the roles of the researchers and the research subject, authorization, research ethics, current legislation, and the pros and cons of this approach. More broadly, this article aims to widen the range of theoretical and methodological discussion in the field of biography studies. It also illustrates that contemporary oral history-based biographies have a long tradition from which we may draw on for our future projects

Multiplatform Applications as a Means of Understanding Musical Expression
No full textPorozumění hudbě přináší podobné problémy jako porozumění cizímu jazyku. Přitom právě toto je nutné nejen k recepci, ale také k vlastnímu vyjadřování. To bývá v praxi omezeno tím, že jedinec neovládá notopis, hru na nástroj apod. Multiplatformní aplikace, která bude představena v tomto příspěvku, je nástroj k překonávání těchto překážek, když supluje jinak dlouhodobě osvojované dovednosti, a umožňuje tak pohyb v hudebním prostoru – rozpoznávání hudebně výrazových prostředků, hodnocení jejich vlastností a operace s nimi. Článek seznamuje čtenáře multiplatformní aplikací ověřovanou ve výuce hudební výchovy ve čtvrtých třídách ZŠ, s podpůrnou metodickou příručkou a s vývojem didaktického hudebního testu, který tvoří nedílnou součást aplikace.Understanding music presents challenges comparable to those of understanding a foreign language. Yet such understanding is essential not only for reception but also for personal expression. In practice, this expression is often limited by the individual’s lack of skills such as music notation literacy, instrumental performance, and related competencies. The multi-platform application introduced in this article serves as a tool for overcoming thesebarriers by simulating skills that would otherwise require long-term acquisition. In doing so, it enables users to engage with the musical domain—identifying expressive devices, assessing their qualities, and performing operations with them. The article presents a multi-platformapplication tested in the context of music education in fourth-grade primary school classes. It is accompanied by a methodological guide and includes the development of a didactic music test, which forms an integral part of the application
