The grass-roots activism of people with cerebral palsy in Japan : Early protest confronting the inaccessible bus system
Get PDFJapan has one of the highest proportions of people over 65 of any country in the world, and recently the Japanese government has made an effort to improve accessibility on public transportation for older citizens. This effort is rooted in demonstrations almost 30 years ago by people with cerebral palsy who objected to their exclusion from public transportation. This paper describes how Japanese cerebral palsied citizens who challenged inaccessible public bus systems and analyzes the significance of these challenges for the entire country. In time, the country became alert and sensitive to the challenges faced by the severely disabled and one group in particular-- The Japanese Cerebral Palsied Association" Green Grass" (JCP), a group devoted to promote independence and equality for those living with the most severe disabilities. Initially, a manual describing how to handle wheelchair users was made without consulting people. The manual had serious problems, one of which was that if wheelchair users could not transfer to the regular bus seats due to their limited mobility, bus drivers would refuse to grant them access. Because the JCP wanted the society to accept all people regardless of disability, they launched the protest. On the afternoon of April 12 1977, over 100 cerebral palsied wheelchair users from all around the nation gathered at Kawasaki station next to Yokohama city, and held up a total of 28 buses which resulted in chaos in the terminal that lasted throughout the evening. After this historical protest, little progress was made, and negotiations between protesters, bus companies and the government lasted 20 years until an acceptable agreement was reached. As a result of the negotiations however, the Yokohama bus system has become the most accessible in Japan today (43.3% of all buses equipped wheelchair ramp with lowered floor). Use of public transportation is one of the basic necessity and rights for any member of our society. Revisions made to the public transportation system, improving access to persons with disabilities was an example of an important first step towards inclusion and integration of our society.Original Articledepartmental bulletin pape
A safety-network of prevention for child-abuse: suggestions for intervention by public agencies
Get PDF1933年(昭和8年)に制定され、1947年(昭和22年)児童福祉法が制定されたことにより発展的解消の道をたどった児童虐待防止法であるが、1990年代に児童虐待の相談件数が増加の傾向を見せることにより、2000年に再び立法される運びとなる。また、この法律には附則事項がついており、施行後3年を目途として施行状況等を勘案し、検討が加えられ、その結果に基づいて必要な措置が講ぜられると規程されている。したがって、2004年には改正され、「児童虐待の防止等に関する法律の一部を改正する法律」となった。本論に於いては、2004年に改正された事項に着目するとともに、改正された「児童福祉法」にも着目し、その間の児童虐待に関するデータを使い児童相談所の役割について考察し、立ち入り調査のあり方を提言する。児童虐待に対する対応は主として福祉分野で行われている。児童相談所がその任を負うべき機関である。児童虐待防止に関して児童相談所の責務は重く、かつその仕事の領域はあまりにも広い。立ち入り調査の執行および親子分離という措置と家族の再統合へ向けての支援という、相反する業務を同じ機関で行えるのであろうか。虐待防止を「虐待の確定・対処」と「相談・支援」の2つに分けて考え、前者を家庭裁判所が主担し立ち入り調査を実施、後者を児童相談所が受け持ち被虐待児および家庭への支援にあたるべきであると考える。Original Articledepartmental bulletin pape

Get PDF当大学カリキュラムの特徴の一つに園芸療法という科目がある。理学療法士、作業療法士、言語聴覚士の国家資格に加えて園芸療法士の認定資格が得られるという魅力もあってか、初年度にもかかわらず定員枠の50名を大幅に越す人気講座となっている。超人気のこの園芸療法、歴史的にみれば1900年の初頭より精神科領域において永年にわたり作業療法の一種目(農耕・園芸)として活用されてきた。都市化が進むにつれ、一定の土地確保が困難となり、実施する施設は減ったものの、今なお多くの病院・施設で利用されている作業種目である。近年の急激な高齢社会は、深刻な認知症問題を抱える事となり、増え続ける認知症に対しいかに歯止めをかけるかが急務となってきている。この課題の切り札として園芸療法が脚光を浴びるようになり、老人保健施設など福祉領域において、作業療法士に加えて園芸療法士の指導による活用の広まりが見られてきている。園芸療法の目的は、土を耕し、種を蒔き、花や植物を育て収穫するまでの一連の園芸活動や役割から生み出される"癒し効果"を心や身体のリハビリテーションに役立てることにある。特に作業療法学専攻においては基礎作業学として重要な位置づけと捉えている。この度、開学初年度にもかかわらず、この園芸療法を主眼とした海外研修プログラムが実現したのでその研修概要について報告する。今後は、継続的行事として定着させ、園芸療法の学問的発展と、建学の精神である「豊かな人間性」育成に寄与していきたい。Reportdepartmental bulletin pape
Vitamin D receptor gene and exercise: influence on bone mineral density
Get PDFThe population with osteoporosis is estimated at over ten million people in Japan. The consecutive increase of the case is therefore a serious problem in our aging society. Reducing the risk of bone fractures from osteoporosis involves preventing or delaying the loss of bone mineral density (BMD). BMD has been reported to be strongly determined genetically. The vitamin D receptor (VDR) is a good candidate gene for a prime regulator of BMD and bone metabolism. Many allelic variants in the VDR gene have been associated with BMD. In addition to the genetic background, exercise is also related to BMD. Recently, there is a growing realization that the physical response to a particular exercise stimulus may be mediated by individual genetic variability. Emotional Response and the Limbic System : Utilizing Emotion Diaries
Get PDFThe purpose of this study is to examine the ups and downs on emotion and it's solving procedures. I performed questionnaire investigation about four kinds of emotion; joy, anger, sorrow, and pleasure to 114 students (16 male and 98 female students) in two nurse course schools. They spend actively in weekend time. Feelings occurrence about joy is shopping, trip, and party, and trouble with another person about anger, the natural phenomenon about sorrow, and friends, owns hobby about pleasure. Emotional occurrence does not have correlation with day-time but physiologic desires, and natural phenomenon. Solution procedures about emotion ups and downs are a feeling change by appreciation such as music or the DVD, endured own feelings and took with a friend. In addition, a tendency to reflect on immaturity of self was seen, and it became clear to take an action to be able to consider as the sprouting of awareness as a medical care person.Original Articledepartmental bulletin pape
