Novel Photo/Thermal-Electric and Fission-Electric Power Systems

    No full text
Current green energy programs are incomplete without the long-term solution to the nuclear waste problem. In particular, spent fuel and depleted uranium (DU) that could be a major source of nuclear energy and isotopes are now being managed as waste. To integrate electrical-in-nature nuclear energy into green grids, a thermo-electric gas cooled water moderated small modular reactor (SMR) with a fission-electric (FE) corecan be used. Also, only about half of the solar radiation makes it to the Earth surface; the rest is either absorbed or reflected by clouds, and the atmosphere. A hybrid blackbody-cavity photoelectric (PE), PVand thermal modules are proposed. In the PV, PE/thermalcells, spacing between the photovoltaic (PV) mirror anode, in-planegate and cathode allows to greatly improve theirefficiencies, while also taking advantage of low-cost thermal storage

Psychosociology of a Population Awaiting Industrial Development of the Mining Type

    No full text
A number of cognitive, structural and infrastructural subtleties provide ample information on the thinly veiled manifestation of the "mining town" stature. These include: formative options in the field of acquisition of bookish, technological and conceptual knowledge and the level of entrepreneurial culture of the players, the standard of living of the majority, the quality of infrastructures, among others. The clues paving the way for this consecration remain non-existent in NGAOUNDAL. Bauxite was discovered here in 1906, and will be mined on an industrial scale on part of the town's territory. In view of this exploitation, this town should stand out differently from the others. The mindset of the population needs to be rebuilt. Sociology in particular is capable of using an empirical approach to explain the above analogies. Documentary research, interviews and observation are mobilised for this work. The methodological individualism of Raymond Boudon and Max Weber will guide our exercise. Four results were obtained. - The damaging effects of psychosocial stagnation in a population. - The harmful impact of old routines in terms of hoping for a different outcome. - The psychosocial itinerary of people and its effects on industrial transformation. - The skills and initiatory paths that is essential in a mining context

Assessing the Use of Human Resource and Performance Management Development Portfolios in the Bureaucratic Organization in Botswana

    No full text
Background is that Human Resource Development Council Review (2024) highlights a skills mismatch in Botswana’s labor market. The review points out that graduates often possess more theoretical knowledge than practical skills, underscoring the need to profile skills and competency gaps (https://www.resaerchgate.net/profile/sue-askew/publication/27469567-potfolios for learning assessment and professional development in highereducation). Rationale for using Human Resource and Performance Management Development Portfolios in Botswana is that they enhance human resource performance to execute enabling outcomes (small skills)-performance criteria outcomes-learning outcomes-culminating outcomes (apply-analyze-synthesize-create-evaluate-solve) in real life and hypothetical situations. This study evaluates the useof Human Resource and Performance Management Development Portfolios in Botswana. It investigates whether the Principles of Human Resource and Performance Management Development Portfolios are applied in Botswana. Qualitative research approach specifically action research is applied in this study to solve existing challenges where‘graduates had acquired more theory than practical skills’. Purposive sampling was used to select respondents who could best provide answers to the research objectives. General Theory of Black Holes

    No full text
We discuss corrections to the mainstream theory of black holes in general relativity.  We discuss the Schwarzschild point-mass and extended-mass solutions of the Einstein Field Equations, concluding that many of the features traditionally associated with black hole theory are absurd and incorrect. The picture of a point singularity surrounded by a surface singularity at the Schwarzschild radius does not hold water. As an afterthought, we suggest how to solve the Kerr problem (rotating black hole): by numerical methods/machine computation.

    Trump’s Geopolitics for the Economy

    No full text
Trump's protectionist policies, such as tariffs, have had knock-on effects on the global economy, leading to a decline in economic expectations and a decline in the economy. The negative effects have been felt not only in financial markets, but also in people's daily lives, particularly for those who depend on cheap goods. Markets reacted early to the announcement of the tariffs, with a significant devaluation of the shares, highlighting the lack of confidence in the country's economic direction. However, it is emphasized that the real indicator of economic health is the purchasing power of households, not fluctuations in financial markets. the basic idea of the Trumpian is based on the hypothesis that tariffs could lead to a return of industries in the United States, but the possibility of such a return is doubtful, given that multinationals are attracted by lower production costs in other countries, such as China. The first law of thermodynamics also applies to the economy: capital and industries will always tend towards the places of lowest cost, as heat goes towards cold and not vice versa. Tension is growing between the United States and China, especially after the imposition of tariffs and Chinese responses. China, which has benefited enormously from globalization, is now showing signs of strong resistance to a return of American industries. China's response was swift and decisive, suggesting that China is unwilling to give in to U.S. pressure. In conclusion, current economic policies may not only not bring the desired results but also aggravate the economic situation both in the United States and globally. The separation between the real economy and financial activity continues to create imbalances, and the economic future remains uncertain. A profound reflection on the need to reconnect the real economy with the financial economy could rule out the speculative temptations that have characterized the last decades

Economic Freedom, Social Structure, and Dynamic Effects of Country-Level Employment and Labor Law Regulatory Institutions

    No full text
This study examined employment and labor law regulatory institutions in different countries, comparing neoclassical economics and neo-institutionalism. Analyses across 117 countries showed laws restricting alternative forms of employment were associated with increased standards of living, humanitarian development, innovation, voice, and accountability. Laws restricting working hours or dismissals had the opposite effects. Laws facilitating union membership or industrial action increased voice and accountability.  Managerial relevance is explained. Theoretical, practical, and policy implications are provided

The Influence of Organizational Capacity on Employee Performance in Local Authorities in Zambia: Case of Ndola City Council

    No full text
This study explored the influence of organizational capacity on employee performance in local authorities in Zambia, using Ndola City Council as a case study. The study used a mixed methods design. Ndola City Council (NCC) employees were the primary targets and they were selected by probability sampling, while a fraction of members of the Ndola community and other stakeholders were selected using non-probability sampling. Consequently, questionnaires were administered to Ndola City Council employees using a Survey questionnaire, key informant interviews were conducted with Management staff from Ndola City Council, Ndola community members and other stakeholders were also interviewed. Data obtained from the survey questionnaire was analysed quantitatively from the Survey Monkey Software and data obtained from interviews was analysed qualitatively through the thematic approach.   This study established that generally, the main organizational capacities at Ndola City Council are Managerial, Technical and Fiscal Capacity. These capacities have influence on the performance of employees as is evident in this study. When organizational capacity is adequate, there is good employee performance which positively affects service delivery. The study revealed that the local authority is well structured, planning is done in line with policies, NCC staff are adequate and qualified, NCC staff are paid on time and finances are used for their intended purpose. This leads to good employee performance. When organizational capacity is not effective, employee performance is compromised and this has a negative impact on service delivery. The findings have demonstrated that there is unequal treatment of departments at NCC, poor collaboration between NCC and the community, NCC has inadequate equipment (for example; waste management trucks, computers, etc), inadequate finances, NCC is facing increasing expenditure without additional revenues, and staff salaries are low at NCC. This leads to poor performance of employees. Further, the study concluded that, community members and other stakeholders do not comply as expected and this has contributed to the local authority not being able to deliver services accordingly. There are a number of implementable ways of enhancing NCC’s employee performance in the context of organizational capacity like; treating all departments of the council equally, increasing council workers’ wages, investing in equipment, need for more commercial ventures, and the need for more interactions between NCC, the community and other stakeholders. The research therefore, recommends that, the local authority finds ways of increasing the organizational capacity by increasing the revenue base, creating more revenue collection ventures and ensuring that the local authority and resources are well managed. In addition, the study recommends that, the government and NCC strengthen compliance of the community and other stakeholders to regulations. This will help improve organizational capacity, which will improve employee performance and consequently service delivery

Last year,2024, was the warmest on record, and the forecast for the future is unfavorable, with a new record likely to be set. Severe storms, torrential rains, and devastating fires tested all continents. The climate crisis is here and showing its worst face, with enormous economic devastation and human losses. The consequences of climate change are becoming more apparent and more adverse every year. For the past 45 years, the issue of climate change has been a concern to scientists and those involved in planning development policies. At the United Nations and European Union levels, efforts continue to contain the increase in average global temperatures. However, some underestimate the risk and insist on drilling for fossil fuels and using coal. Fortunately, a majority continues to work on alternative forms of energy that will reduce or balance the risk at some point. This article outlines the most significant policies to implement and the direction humanity should take to prevent Earth's living conditions from becoming unlivable
