Interior Ecology of Rural Houses in Çamlıhemşin

    No full text
Rural houses form a significant part of the rural architectural heritage, showing the region\u27s lifestyle in their spatial organisation, types of spaces, and interior furnishings. This study examines the spatial characteristics of rural houses in Çamlıhemşin from the perspective of ecosophy, Guattari\u27s (2005) approach of emphasising the reciprocity and intertwining of social, mental, and environmental ecologies. The impact of living culture on the spatial organisation and residential usage norms within the dwellings was evaluated and elucidated through an analysis of data gathered from on-site surveys, relevant literature, and archival scans. These data are interpreted according to the different characteristics and operational values between Turkish houses and the Çamlıhemşin houses in the Eastern Black Sea. These disparate points uniquely characterise the region from other regions, which are considered differentiation points. These interlocked ecologies define a dynamic structure that forms the formal and operational characteristics of the region. While the geographical characteristics of the region determine the environmental ecology, abstract values such as the social structure, collective beliefs, worldview, lifestyle, and perception of privacy are the elements that shape the social and mental ecology of the rural architecture of Çamlıhemşin

It is concluded that heat strain complaints among workers fall into the danger zone or red zone, there is a relationship between drinking water consumption (r=0.030), physical workload (r=0.039), indoor work climate (r=0.001), and outdoor work climate (r=0.018) with heat strain complaints, and there is no relationship between age (r=0.145) and length of work (r=0.539) with heat strain complaints. The company is advised to provide education on the importance of consuming drinking water to all workers, adjust the amount of work or workload according to the ability of workers, and carry out engineering controls by installing vents

CONVERGENCE IN ACTION: WHERE ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE MEETS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PRACTICE

    No full text
Since the introduction of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the pursuit of human well-being through development and planetary sustainability for a better future has become a global discourse (de Jong & Vijge, 2021; Naseer et al., 2025; Arora-Jonsson, 2023). The SDGs have catalyzed interdisciplinary dialogue and strengthened global commitment (Naseer et al., 2025) by emphasizing the balance and integration of economic, social, and environmental aspects (Sedovs et al., 2025). However, the assumption that all goals can be achieved simultaneously and harmoniously seems hasty and potentially ignores the inherent tensions between ecological and economic interests (Spaiser et al., 2016; Glinik et al., 2024). For example, land-use changes drivened by economic growth can lead to ecosystem degradation (Luo & He, 2023). Furthermore, biodiversity degradation and the climate crisis are often frame within the logic of global capitalism to encourage economic growth (Rosales, 2008; van Niekerk, 2020). Economic growth itself is ambivalent, on the one hand promoting development, but on the other driving environmental degradation. Today\u27s realities also show that the consistent rapid increase in industrial and service sector activity has placed enormous pressure on the environment and natural resources (Sadiq et al., 2022). In this context, the SDGs can be seen as a promising normative framework, but their implementation ultimately depends on the ability to interpret and manage the tensions between goals. Governance plays a critical role in the success of sustainable development initiatives (Filho et al., 2023; Adebayo et al., 2025; Naseer et al., 2025). Good governance ensures that policies are effectively enforced, resources are allocated efficiently, and stakeholders are adequately engaged (Handoyo, 2024). Environmental sustainability is driven by appropriate physical planning and land use, as well as ecological or biodiversity conservation (Paudel & States, 2023). The successful implementation of the SDGs will depend on untangling the complex interactions between their goals and targets (Breuer et al., 2019). An integrated approach requires both to sustainability requires simultaneously realizing the potential of its key dimensions, as well as managing the tensions, trade-offs, and synergies between them. This is where an interdisciplinary approach in environmental science becomes essential. Such an approach focuses not only on calculating environmental degradation but also on dominant narratives and reconstructing power relations. Understanding environmental risk, for example, cannot be separated from the historical, social, and political context surrounding it. Environmental risk is not simply a neutral, objective entity, but rather a construct shaped by power, knowledge, and access to decision-making. Therefore, all decisions must strive to promote positive growth and balance within natural systems (Mensah, 2019) Environmental science offers a platform that integrates scientific discussion, policy action, and community aspirations to reposition development as a reflective and participatory process. The challenge extends beyond simply collecting more data or refining indicators; it involves innovating an ethical system robust enough to manage conflicts between values, priorities, and visions of sustainability itself. Herein lies the urgency: making environmental science a space for critical reflection. The diversity of local conditions presents both challenges and opportunities in the application of global sustainability frameworks, as discussed through the diverse case studies in this issue, from soil microbial dynamics in Bangladesh (Begum et al., 2025), to the transformation of livelihoods among illegal gold miners in Indonesia (Ardikoesoema & Karuniasa, 2025). Both studies emphasize that science-based solutions can be integrated into sustainable development strategies at various scales. This geographic and methodological diversity enables a deeper understanding of how principles of sustainability practices can be contextualized locally while still contributing to global goals. The Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development has been indexed by Scopus [JESSD Scopus Link] and presents various studies that demonstrate the concrete contribution of environmental science in achieving the SDGs through a multi-scale and interdisciplinary approach. The current 14th issue of the Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development presents a series of studies that demonstrate the concrete contribution of environmental science at various scales in achieving the SDGs through a multi-scale and interdisciplinary approach. The articles in this issue not only support these claims empirically and rigorously but also demonstrate, in practical terms, how environmental research can be translated into effective strategies for sustainable development at the local, national, and global levels

Papillon–Lefèvre Syndrome: A Report of Four Cases in One Family

    No full text
Papillon–Lefèvre syndrome (PLS) is a rare genetic disorder caused by mutations in the cathepsin C gene and inherited in an autosomal recessive pattern. The risk of its occurrence is heightened by consanguineous marriages. PLS affects both genders and presents with hyperkeratotic patches on the hands and feet and precocious aggressive periodontitis. Although teeth initially erupt normally, rapid resorption in periodontal tissues leads to swift tooth loss, and prosthetic rehabilitation is complicated due to aggressive alveolar bone resorption. Case report: In 2021, a brother and sister sought dental treatment at Gazi University’s Faculty of Dentistry. After thorough examinations, the brother underwent total teeth extraction and subsequently received prosthetic treatment, while the sister opted for a removable prosthesis post-extraction. Two years later, the brother’s prosthesis showed no issues, justifying its continued use. However, the sister required a total prosthesis after total teeth extraction. Regular check-ups are essential for both patients, as they are candidates for dental implants after growth and development completion. Conclusion: It is important to note that PLS is a rare condition; therefore, vigilant dental diagnosis and effective management are crucial

Optimizing the Role of Notaries in Digital Property Inheritance: A Comparative Legal Analysis

    No full text
One of the provisions in inheritance laws regarding the transfer of digital property after someone\u27s death is a relatively new and evolving area of legal consideration. Inheritance laws were developed long before the widespread adoption of digital property, such as cryptocurrencies, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), online accounts, and other forms of digital property. As a result, existing inheritance laws often lack clear guidance on how to control the legal transfer of these digital assets upon the owner\u27s death. This article aims to analyze the legal concept of digital property to be inherited and to provide solutions for current digital property inheritance issues from a notarial perspective. This study conducts a thorough analysis of digital property under inheritance law and how notaries should play a role in digital inheritance matters. A method of doctrinal legal analysis of current national and international laws and regulations pertaining to digital property succession is also employed, as well as comparative legislative studies examining proposed policies across jurisdictions to garner real-world insights into the operational challenges, emerging practices, and pragmatic considerations surrounding notary participation in digital inheritance procedures. Updating inheritance laws to address the transfer of digital property is crucial to protect the rights and interests of individuals, promote legal certainty, and ensure that these valuable assets are properly accounted for and transferred to rightful heirs or beneficiaries. The law of property in the Indonesian Civil Code needs to be immediately adjusted to the development of the digitalization era. This article suggests optimizing the role of notaries to create authentic deeds on digital property inheritance. Keywords: Digital property, inheritance, notary, will

    No full text
In this digital era, technology has changed many aspects of life. Land purchase agreements in Indonesia, which were previously carried out conventionally, have begun to shift to digital platforms. Digitalization in land purchase agreements offers various opportunities, but this process also has a number of challenges that need to be overcome to ensure that land purchase transactions can be carried out efficiently and safely, providing legal protection to buyers. The formulation of the problem in this study is how the challenges and opportunities of land purchase agreement transactions in the digital era in Indonesia and how legal protection is provided for buyers in digital land purchase transactions in Indonesia. This type of research is library research. Library research is research conducted using references in the form of books, journals, newspapers, magazines or reports of previous research results. Data collection techniques use secondary data, either using primary materials, secondary materials or tertiary materials. Data analysis in this study uses interactive analysis. The results of the study show that the opportunities with the presence of digitalization in land purchase agreement transactions in Indonesia can provide acceleration in accessing information about land, such as location, price, and legal status by prospective sellers and buyers. Transactions can be carried out without having to meet in person. Another opportunity from digitalization in land sale and purchase agreement transactions is the ease of recording and archiving documents. This digitalization also opens up opportunities for the government to eradicate corruption and extortion practices that still often occur in conventional land sale and purchase processes. One of the main challenges faced by buyers is fraud. In digital transactions, fraud can occur through various modes of operation, such as the sale of land with unclear ownership, falsification of documents, or presentation of inaccurate information. Legal protection must be provided to buyers in digital land sale and purchase agreements. The application of digital technology in land sale and purchase agreements must use a blockchain system and e-signatures to verify land ownership. This is done to overcome the problems of duplication and forgery, as well as to increase security and transparency
