The phenomenon of single candidates in regional elections in Indonesia has created a dilemma in applying democratic principles, especially regarding ballot design that often confuses voters. The Constitutional Court’s Decision Number 100/PUU-XIII/2015 mandated a plebiscite design with “agree” or “disagree” options for single candidates. However, in practice, this design has been distorted with the presence of a blank box without adequate explanation. This study aims to evaluate the extent to which the discrepancy between the Constitutional Court\u27s decision and actual ballot design practices affects voter understanding and the quality of democracy. This study employs a normative juridical method with a qualitative-descriptive approach, relying on literature reviews and secondary data analysis from legal documents and news reports. The theoretical framework uses the ambiguity effect and picture superiority effect, explaining how visual ballot design can influence voter preferences cognitively. The study analyzes variables of compliance with the Constitutional Court\u27s decision and voter understanding as parameters. Data collection procedures are conducted through a literature review. The results indicate that the inconsistency of ballot design with the Court’s decision leads to voter confusion, where the ambiguity of the blank box often directs voters toward choices that may not reflect their true preferences. This highlights the need for policy revisions to better align with democratic principles and support voter decision-making quality in regional elections in Indonesia. Get PDF
This study aims to identify the level of career orientation of junior high school students as a first step in providing career interventions. The subjects in this study were junior high school students from class IX in Samarinda City, comprising three schools with 69 students. The sample selection was obtained using a stratified random sampling technique. Researchers use the career orientation scale as the research instrument, whereas the data analysis technique uses descriptive analysis and an independent t-test. The descriptive analysis results show that the career orientation level of junior high school students in Samarinda City tends to be low. The independent t-test analysis results between the three schools show no difference in the level of student career orientation (F = 0.13 and p = 0.875). Therefore, low levels of student career orientation tend to be experienced by all schools (group A, group B, and group C). Thus, the schools should socialize on the importance of career planning from the junior high school level so students can choose school majors in high school according to their potential

    Get PDF
Second-hand smoke (SHS) exposure in the home environment has become a public health emergency, especially in countries with very high smoking rates, such as Indonesia. SHS exposure has already presented evidence of symptoms of the respiratory category, like a cough and shortness of breath. This study aimed to assess the association between exposure to SHS at home and the presence of respiratory symptoms among non-smoking adults in Depok, Indonesia. Convenience sampling was adopted for enrolling 108 non-smoking adults aged 18-30 who were jointly exposed to SHS in their homes for a cross-sectional study. Data aggregations of gatherings were performed using a standardized, interviewer-structured questionnaire of symptoms of the respiratory category, which is cough and shortness of breath. Descriptive statistics were used to sum up participant characteristics, and the correlation of SHS frequency and location with occurrences of the duration of the respiratory symptoms was tested using the Chi-square test. The study findings indicated a statistically significant correlation between SHS exposure in particular locations of residence (bedroom, kitchen, and living room) and self-reported frequency of shortness of breath (χ² = 59.02, p = 0.00001) and coughing (χ² = 53.94, p = 0.000168). Our study, therefore, suggests that household SHS exposure has a strong correlation with shortness of breath and coughing in non-smoking adults. The study calls for smoke-free home policies and greater public health awareness of the risk of SHS exposure

Sundanese Kecap Anteuran from the perspective of Japanese onomatopoeia

    Get PDF
One of the distinctive features of the Sundanese language is the use of Kecap Anteuran (KA), or verb intensifiers. This linguistic feature often poses challenges when translating Sundanese into foreign languages, particularly European languages. However, we argue that Sundanese KA demonstrates a higher degree of translatability into Japanese, a language that also uses verb intensifiers similar to those found in Sundanese. In Japanese, words analogous to Sundanese KA are categorized as giongo-gitaigo, although the term onomatope is more commonly used. This study aims to identify Sundanese KA based on Tamori’s classification of Japanese onomatopoeia. Using a descriptive-qualitative approach, we examine (Sound [S] and Mentality [M]) onomatopoeia. The findings reveal that Sundanese onomatopoeic and non-onomatopoeic KA align with their respective Japanese counterparts as classified by Tamori, based on their associations with sensations, perceptions, emotional states, and the descriptions of activities

This research analyzes the implementation of nominees in the field of land tenure in Indonesia, as well as how an authentic deed made before a notary has a nominee element in it and also the consequences for the beneficiary of cancelling the authentic deed because the authentic deeds contained nominee practices. The research was compiled using doctrinal research methods. The implementation of nominee practices in an authentic deed is made by making a series of agreements whose contents indirectly transfer ownership from the nominee whose name is listed on the certificate of ownership, to the beneficiary, which in this case is a foreign citizen. It can be concluded that the nominee deeds made have basically violated the objective requirements of the agreement. The content of the agreement as outlined in the authentic deed has violated the applicable provisions of the Agrarian Law and its implementing regulations. As a result, the deeds in this situation must be declared null and void. Thus, the foreigner who is the beneficial owner or beneficiary of the disputed land, cannot be given any legal protection, including to get a refund for the land that was actually purchased using their own money

As land plays an important role in everyday life, it is necessary to pay attention to rights and protection regarding its implementation. The Basic Agrarian Law itself has derivatives, one of which discusses Land Redistribution as regulated in Presidential Regulation Number 88 of 2017 concerning Settlement of Land Tenure in Forest Areas. However, after the ratification of Presidential Regulation Number 62 of 2023 concerning the Acceleration of Implementation of Agrarian Reform, Presidential Regulation Number 88 of 2017 and Presidential Regulation Number 86 of 2018 concerning Agrarian Reform are revoked and replaced with Presidential Regulation Number 62 of 2023 concerning Accelerating the Implementation of Agrarian Reform. In its understanding, land redistribution is to overcome inequality in control and ownership of land for farmers who depend on agricultural land for their livelihood. Implementing Landreform can be a means of realizing the welfare of rural communities, the majority of whom live from agricultural businesses. Land reform can also mean an overhaul of the land structure which includes an overhaul of human relationships with land, human relationships with humans related to land in order to increase farmers\u27 income. This can be realized in the land redistribution program for Landreform objects. This research uses a statutory research approach and a conceptual approach. This research uses secondary data in the form of primary legal materials, namely statutory regulations and secondary legal materials in the form of books and scientific journals. The results of this research reveal (a) Redistribution as the acquisition of Land Rights (b ) Responsibilities in Implementing Redistribution (c) Legal protection for Rights Holders of Redistribution (d) Compensation for losses (e) Realization of justice for Redistribution of Land Objects of Landreform

Phytoremediation of Lead Heavy Metals in the Mangrove Ecosystem of the Lembar Harbor Area, West Lombok Regency, Indonesia

    No full text
Mangroves play a vital role as bioindicator plants in port areas with the potential for non-essential heavy metal contamination. This study aimed to determine the potential for phytoremediation of lead heavy metal in mangrove vegetation resulting from port operations. The research was conducted in the mangrove ecosystem of Lembar Harbor, West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Substrate, leaf, and root samples were collected using a purposive random sampling technique and analysis for testing the lead heavy metal content using atomic absorption spectrophotometry. The results showed that the average heavy metal content of lead accumulated in the substrate in each mangrove stand (14.35 ± 2.711 ppm) was higher than the average heavy metal content in the roots (5.48 ± 2.300 ppm) and leaves (3.55 ± 1.623 ppm). Further analysis showed that nine out of 10 mangrove species act as a phytostabilizer against the lead heavy metal with an average translocation factor of no more than one (0.59 ± 0.176). Only Rhizophora stylosa showed the ability for phytoextraction with a translocation factor more than one (1.488). All types of mangroves in the Lembar Harbor area had a bioconcentration factor lower than one, with an average leaf bioconcentration factor of 0.25 ± 0.115 ppm and a root bioconcentration factor of 0.39 ± 0.161 ppm. The ecological function of the mangroves in Lembar Harbor is more specifically an excluder plant for lead heavy metal bioaccumulation with a biological concentration factor (BCF) \u3c 1 and phytoremediation (FTD) \u3c 1, which can be affected by the low accumulated BCF of leaves and roots

Pharmaceutical Innovation Through Computational Drug Design: A Comprehensive Exploration

    No full text
Chemical biology and computer-aided drug design (CADD) are crucial for identifying and optimizing lead molecules in drug development. Chemical biology is employed to determine the biological function of the target and the mode of action of a chemical modulator. At the same time, in CADD, promising candidate medications are identified based on the structure of the target or known bioactive ligands. Structure-based and ligand-based drug designs should be used in tandem, and their integration with experimental methods can considerably accelerate drug design. Furthermore, the use of CADD along with conventional experimental approaches increases the efficiency and accuracy of the discovery and optimization of possible drug candidates. CADD provides information on the interactions between pharmaceuticals and their target molecules, with recent advances in CADD methodologies—such as artificial intelligence and machine learning—revolutionizing the field. Thus, CADD is expected to notably accelerate the development of novel, efficient treatments for a range of illnesses
