Hubungan Ruang Terbuka Hijau dengan Prevalensi Diabetes Melitus di Provinsi DKI Jakarta Tahun 2022
Background: Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by high blood sugar levels. According to Riskesdas (2018), Jakarta has the highest prevalence rate at 2.6%. Objective: To analyze the relationship between green open spaces, socio-economic factors, demographics, and physically active residents with the prevalence of diabetes mellitus. Method: An ecological study design with the unit of analysis is districts and the population consisting of 44 districts in DKI Jakarta Province in 2022. The dependent variable is the prevalence of diabetes mellitus, and the independent variables include education, employment status, population density, gender, age, physically active residents, the area of green open spaces and their types (urban parks, urban forests, green lanes, and cemeteries). All data were obtained from Jakarta City Government agencies, including the Health Office, Parks and Urban Forest Service, Population and Civil Registration Office, and Youth and Sports Office. Statistical analysis was conducted using statistical and spatial correlation tests. Results: The proportion of green open space area is 28.73m²/1000m² and the average prevalence of diabetes mellitus cases is 24.97 cases/1000 people. Significant factors correlate the prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus are productive age (p=0.032; r=0.324); non-productive age (p=0.032; r=-0.324), and the proportion of urban forest area (p=0.049; r=-0.298). Conclusion: The proportion of green open space area below the recommended standard of 20% public open space, with the most common type of green open space is urban parks and the least common is urban forests. Statistically, there is a relationship between the proportion of urban forest area and the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in DKI Jakarta Province in 2022
Hubungan Faktor Iklim, Faktor Polutan dan Faktor Sosioekonomi terhadap Proporsi Pneumonia Balita Provinsi DKI Jakarta Tahun 2013 – 2022
In 2022, the Province of DKI Jakarta ranked fourth with the highest coverage of pneumonia in toddlers (53.2%), exceeding Indonesia\u27s toddler pneumonia coverage (38.78%). Pneumonia is influenced by various risk factors, including environmental factors such as climate and weather conditions as well as air pollution, and social and behavioral factors such as toddler characteristics, parental socioeconomic status, and access to health care services. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between climate factors (air temperature, relative humidity, rainfall, and air pressure), pollutant factors (PM10, SO2, CO, O3, NO2), and parents\u27 socioeconomic factors (education and occupation) on the proportion of pneumonia in toddlers in DKI Jakarta from 2013 to 2022. The ecological study design used secondary data, analyzing the proportion of pneumonia per month in DKI Jakarta. Data were processed and analyzed using IBM SPSS version 25. The results showed a significant decrease in toddler pneumonia proportion in 2020–2021 due to COVID-19. Pollutants such as CO decreased at the end of the period, while SO2 levels increased. A significant relationship was found between rainfall, air pressure, PM10 CO, SO2, and parental occupation with low socioeconomic status on the proportion of toddler pneumonia in DKI Jakarta from 2013 to 2022
Korelasi Antara Intensitas Doomscrolling Konten Negatif Kehamilan di Media Sosial dengan Tingkat Stres dan Kecemasan Ibu Hamil
Background.The rapid development of social media has significantly influenced information-seeking behavior, including among pregnant women. One emerging phenomenon is doomscrolling, defined as the excessive consumption of negative information, which may trigger stress and anxiety.
Aim. This study aimed to analyze the correlation between the intensity of doomscrolling of negative pregnancy-related information on social media and levels of stress and anxiety among pregnant women in Pare-Pare City.
Method. This study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of all pregnant women attending antenatal care at public health centers in Pare-Pare City, with a sample of 40 respondents selected using the Slovin formula. Data were collected using a doomscrolling intensity questionnaire, the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder scale (GAD-7). Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Kendall’s tau-b test.
Result. Research shows that 42.5% of respondents have a moderate intensity of doomscrolling, 52.5% of res-pondents have a moderate level of stress, and 50% of respondents have a moderate level of anxiety. Statistical tests show a significant correlation between the intensity of doomscrolling and stress levels (p=0.004) and anxiety (p=0.002).
Conclusion. Doomscrolling is correlated with the mental well being of pregnant women therefore, improvements in digital literacy and psychological support provided by healthcare professionals are needed
An Analysis of Narratives Representing Women’s Agency and Role in the Public Space in Najd in the Nineteenth and Early Twentieth Centuries
This paper is a review and analysis of historical narratives and poems to propose a framework of the agency of women in one of the most conservative regions in Arabia in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Najd. These narratives include examples of recorded historical oral accounts and poems by women that exhibit women’s contribution to the public life and participation in the decision-making within their tribal communities. The narratives and literature discussed in the paper reflect these women’s involvement in the fields of education, politics, trade and military activity. Moreover, a reading of poetry that broadcasts their resistance to what they perceive as the bondage of marriage unravels stereotypical views of these women as being voiceless. The contextualized reading of these narratives suggests that women had agency and independence within the norms of their culture. It serves as a tool to envision the trajectory of women’s empowerment in Saudi Arabia through reading the past and understanding the cultural structures from which the narratives emerge
Urban Form Beyond Density: Shape Compactness Matters
Urban compactness has traditionally been measured through density, with population per area used as a core indicator of urban form. However, this method creates a limited view of what compactness means. Research shows that a compact city is not always a high-density city, and that increasing density does not automatically result in compact development. Compactness also involves the shape and structure of urban footprints, which influence how land is used and how a city functions. This paper presents a conceptual distinction between density and shape compactness, arguing that both are necessary to understand urban form. A qualitative literature review was conducted to examine how cities with similar density levels can show major differences in spatial structure and performance. The findings suggest that density and shape are separate components of urban form. This paper proposes a broader measurement framework that includes both factors, which can improve spatial planning, urban design, and policy decisions
ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: BEHAVIORAL TRANSFORMATION TO KNOWLEDGE SYSTEM INTEGRATION FOR SUSTAINABILITY ACTION
Sustainability issues are now a global concern. However, knowing the root causes of problems and the target is not the only factor that constantly motivates change for the better (Wamsle & Osberg, 2022) as such change also requires encouragement from actors, including individuals, organizations, and communities. Therefore, the human aspect is crucial for the successful achievement of sustainability (Hariram et al., 2023). In other words, questions on sustainability are not just about what should be done? and also on “how to get people to do it?” and “why are currently available interventions not yet fully utilized?” Such is required reflecting the findings of a body of previous research which accentuates that our main struggle in the global era we already in, is the discrepancy between awareness and action, between policy and practice, between scientific knowledge and behavior (Hariram et al., 2023; Kirchner-Krath et al., 2024).
Global sustainability efforts often promoted into green technologies and environmental policies. It has shown that even well-designed interventions, the result not always in meaningful change. In several countries, some initiatives have fallen short because they overlook the psychological and socio-cultural factors that shape individual behavior and collective decision-making (de Costa et al., 2025). It also requires a deep understanding of community perspectives as expressed through local social norms and everyday practices. As a result, the presence of infrastructure or the financial support mechanism alone is not enough to drive meaningful change (Kinzig et al., 2013). Local context is another critical factor that shape adoption behavior and the extent to which proposed solutions are accepted and supported (Carmen et al., 2024; Syamsiyah et al., 2025).
In this context, a more comprehensive understanding of environmental science is required. With the philosophy of environmental science, humans constitute is one of the three core dimensions, together with environmental and economic factors, and any effective approach that must balance to these elements. However, when modern environmental science, characterized by data analyses and methodologies is applied in practice, it often meets tensions with deeply rooted local and traditional knowledge systems that have shaped people’s perceptions and behaviors for generations (Ijatuyi et al., 2025). A clear example can be found in Bali, where the Subak irrigation system and the Danu Kerthi philosophy have guided water management for centuries. These practices represent living environmental systems rather than merely cultural heritage to be preserved. When traditional approaches are used into environmental science, conservation efforts are often more effective, as they are grounded in community acceptance and sustained through active local participation (Morse, 2025). This integration can serve as a recognition that centuries-old knowledge systems have legitimacy and effectiveness that must be combined with scientific monitoring and formal governance to achieve optimal conservation outcomes.
Beyond the local context, the organizational context, both in the public and private sectors, can also act as a transformative agent in driving individual practices (Borrás et al., 2024; Keil et al., 2025). Green human resource management (GHRM) integrates environmental and individual lifecycle goals within an organization. This approach demonstrates how integrating understandings of desires can influence individual behaviour and drive organizational innovation that contributes to sustainability (Ahmad et al., 2025; Borrás et al., 2024; Keil et al., 2025; Shoaib et al., 2025).
This 15th issue of the Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development focuses on an often overlooked yet fundamental dimension of sustainability: the ways in which human behavior, cultural and spiritual value systems, local institutional contexts, and the integration of traditional knowledge with modern science collectively shape sustainable landscapes. Unlike previous editions that highlight biophysical and techno-ecological aspects, this issue shifts attention into questions of agency, motivation, beliefs, norms, and meaningful systems that highlight environmental decisions and actions. This perspective shows the critical need for interdisciplinary approaches to explaining contemporary sustainability challenges. Environmental issues today extend beyond ecological degradation to include human behavior and the capacity of diverse knowledge systems, scientific, local, and policy-based, to interact and function cohesively. Consequently, behavioral transformation supported by the integration of multiple knowledge systems represents a fundamental pathway toward effective, adaptive, and long-term sustainability action.
The articles in this issue explore diverse geographic and sectoral contexts, ranging from the application of green transportation technologies, air management in urban-industrial versus traditional-tourism contexts, climate adaptation in agricultural communities, global natural resource management (GHRM) practices in the tourism sector, to indigenous wisdom-based lake conservation and sustainable food systems
Helical Coil Compression Spring Retrofit Design of Wheelbarrow for Optimal Load Carrying Effectiveness
Wheelbarrows are essential multipurpose and dual-function materials handling equipment for many industries and homes. They find exclusive use in the movement of finished goods and raw materials where no other form of transportation works. However, the traditional wheelbarrows require enormous human effort to accomplish the task of conveying a reasonable amount of load from one place to another. During the process, shock loads from road irregularities are transmitted directly to the Barrow pusher. Therefore, this study investigated a retrofitted helical coil, compression spring, wheelbarrow design for effective load transportation. A wheelbarrow with a trapezoidal bucket capacity of 50 l was fabricated and mounted on a hollow pipe galvanized steel chassis frame. The bucket was supported on the front end of the frame using two helical coil compression springs to cushion the shock loads transmitted to the Barrow pusher. For a 150-kg payload, three standard bags of cement equivalent, and a deadweight of 22kg, the spring retrofit design wheelbarrow effectively reduces the galloping shocks through bumps and other path surface irregularities better than conventional non-spring wheelbarrows. The new design can therefore provide succor to the regular wheelbarrow pushers who tend to develop unintended health issues, such as muscular build-up and cramps, as they use a wheelbarrow to move materials over a distance
Ethical Leadership, Psychological Contract, dan Work-Family Conflict: Determinan Loyalitas Perawat di Era Pandemi
Nurses are the frontline of healthcare services and have faced increasing work pressure during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this context, nurse loyalty becomes a crucial factor for the sustainability of healthcare organizations. This study aims to analyze the influence of ethical leadership on employee loyalty by examining the mediating roles of psychological contract and work-family conflict. A total of 145 nurses participated in this study. Data were analyzed using a quantitative approach through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the assistance of Lisrel 8.80. The findings reveal that ethical leadership has a positive effect on both employee loyalty and psychological contract. However, psychological contract and work-family conflict were not found to mediate the relationship between ethical leadership and employee loyalty. These results highlight the importance of ethical leadership in fostering nurse loyalty, although the tested mediating variables did not significantly contribute to the relationship
Polisitemia Sekunder pada Pasien Laki-Laki Muda dengan Sindrom Nefrotik
Polycythemia is a condition characterized by an abnormal increase in the total red blood cell mass and is classified into primary and secondary polycythemia. Secondary polycythemia occurs as a physiological response to tissue hypoxia or increased erythropoietin production, without intrinsic abnormalities in erythroid progenitor cells. This condition is rare, particularly when associated with nephrotic syndrome. This report aims to describe a case of secondary polycythemia associated with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). A 20-year-old man presented with generalized edema for five months prior to admission, accompanied by foamy urine. Physical examination revealed peripheral edema and minimal ascites. Laboratory investigations demonstrated massive proteinuria and elevated hemoglobin levels. Renal biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of FSGS, while bone marrow biopsy showed normocellular findings without evidence of malignancy or fibrosis. The patient was treated with methylprednisolone, ramipril, and simvastatin, and underwent four sessions of phlebotomy along with antiplatelet therapy. Following treatment, there was improvement in hemoglobin levels, proteinuria, and blood pressure control. Secondary polycythemia has been reported to be associated with various parenchymal kidney diseases, including FSGS. The proposed mechanisms include increased erythropoietin production due to renal ischemia or dysregulation of erythropoiesis feedback mechanisms. Phlebotomy is an important therapeutic intervention to prevent complications related to hyperviscosity and thromboembolism and has been shown to result in clinical improvement. This case illustrates a rare occurrence of secondary polycythemia in a patient with nephrotic syndrome due to FSGS. Accurate diagnosis and comprehensive management, including phlebotomy, can lead to meaningful clinical improvement. This report is expected to contribute to the literature on the diagnosis and management of secondary polycythemia in kidney disease
