    Enhancing Health and Safety Practices in Construction Site in Developing Nations Through Technology Advancement in South Western Nigeria

    The construction sector plays a critical role in urban development and economic growth, yet it continues to face major challenges that threaten worker health and safety. Traditional safety measures are not always sufficient for the complex conditions found on construction sites, which creates a need for technology‑based solutions. This study investigates the relationship between technology adoption and health and safety practices in the construction industry in Lagos, Nigeria. The study identifies the major causes of site accidents, examines the level of technology use on construction sites, and reviews existing literature through both primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected from registered construction professionals, while secondary data were obtained from journals and conference papers. Questionnaires were distributed through email and social media platforms, and 141 valid responses were received. Findings show that the leading causes of construction hazards were lack of training (mean = 3.79) and non‑compliance with safety procedures (mean = 3.70). The overall level of technology adoption for site safety was low (mean = 2.75), although some tools were more widely used than others. The most significant barrier to adoption was the high cost of acquiring new technologies (mean = 4.52). Statistical analysis showed a strong positive correlation between technology adoption and accident reduction (r = 0.62, p = 0.001). Technology‑based safety training was significantly associated with improved compliance (χ² = 12.45, p = 0.002). Wearable technology also had a significant effect on incident reporting (F = 4.76, p = 0.012), and access to mobile safety applications showed a positive correlation with risk reporting (r = 0.45, p = 0.045). Overall, the study concludes that technology contributes positively to construction health and safety in southwestern Nigeria. The study recommends increased investment in training, awareness programs, and financial support to encourage wider adoption of safety technologies

    Electronic medical records (EMRs) are essential to modern healthcare systems, yet their implementation continues to face challenges such as disruption of doctor–patient communication, administrative burden, and documentation structures misaligned with clinicians’ clinical reasoning processes. This narrative review aims to assess the limitations of conventional EMRs and examine the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve documentation efficiency, accuracy, and overall clinical performance. The literature indicates that AI technologies, including machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing, can automate documentation, streamline workflows, enhance decision support, and reduce physician burnout, thereby allowing clinicians to devote more attention to patient care. Nevertheless, the integration of AI into EMRs must address ethical concerns such as algorithmic bias, data privacy, and accountability for AI-assisted decisions. In conclusion, AI-driven EMR optimization has the potential to create a more human-centered, efficient, and data-driven documentation ecosystem when supported by strong regulatory and ethical frameworks

    Difficulties in diagnosing primary cutaneous mucormycosis: Excluding mycobacterium other than tuberculosis

    Background: Mucormycosis is a rare fungal infection caused by a group of opportunistic fungi from the class Zygomycetes. Primary cutaneous mucormycosis is the most common type of mucormycosis in immunocompetent patients. This study reported a case of primary cutaneous mucormycosis with nonspecific clinical characteristics and various supporting examinations. The patient was successfully treated with in toto excision and oral ketoconazole. Case Illustration: A 40-year-old female presented with purplish-red spots and painless lumps on the second finger of her right hand, which had been present for a year. She had a history of frequent fish tank cleaning and gardening but denied any known injury. Physical examination revealed multiple well-circumscribed and confluent erythematous-violaceous plaques and nodules. An in toto excisional biopsy was performed for histopathological examination, culture, and a rapid molecular test (RMT) using the Xpert MTB/RIF® test (Cepheid, USA). Histopathological examination revealed granulomatous suppurative inflammation, and fungal culture revealed growth of Mucor species. Discussion: Clinical findings in cutaneous mucormycosis are nonspecific. The diagnosis is confirmed by identifying the organism through biopsy and histopathological examination, as well as culture. Histopathology will reveal granulomas in the dermis and subcutis containing numerous macrophages and Langhans giant cells, often with phagocytosed fungal elements. Fungal culture yields positive results in 72–89% of cases of skin mucormycosis conducted on Sabouraud and potato dextrose agar media. Conclusion: This case emphasizes the need for broad differential consideration and thorough diagnostic workup in nonspecific cutaneous mucormycosis and supports surgical excision with systemic antifungal therapy for chronic, localized primary disease

    Development of Shigella flexneri Detection Method by Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction Targeting the sfmD Gene

    Shigella flexneri can cause shigellosis, which results in high fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or death. This study developed a detection method based on real-time polymerase chain reaction that targets the sfmD gene of S. flexneri given that the virulence factor encoded by this gene is thought to facilitate adhesion to a host surface. The proposed method involves primer design, DNA isolation, the optimization of primer annealing temperature, and confirmation, specificity, and sensitivity tests. A sfmD primer with an amplicon length of 155 bp was annealed to the target DNA at an optimized temperature of 60 ℃ (range 54 °C–62 °C). This primer pair amplified the target sequences at a cycle threshold (Ct) of 15.11 ± 0.38 and a melting temperature of 82.41 ± 0.01 ℃. The primer specificity test showed that the primer distinguished S. flexneri from nontarget bacteria. The findings also revealed that the primer detected S. flexneri down to a limit of 16 pg/μL at a Ct of 26.68, equivalent to 2.79×102 CFU. Overall, the sfmD primer can effectively amplify S. flexneri DNA. Future research can be directed toward the detection of S. flexneri in artificially contaminated food samples to validate the real-food applicability and strengthen its potential use in food safety monitoring and clinical diagnostics

    Energy Efficiency Analysis and Innovation in Mulia Gading Kencana Housing

    Background: The development of sustainable housing has become an important issue amid global climate change challenges. Although the concept of green housing has begun to be implemented in Indonesia, evaluations of its application in subsidized housing remain limited, particularly those examining design readiness and neighborhood system integration. Aim: This study aims to analyze the implementation of energy efficiency and neighborhood innovation variables within the green housing concept at the Mulia Gading Kencana (MGK) Housing Estate in Serang, Banten. Methods: This research employed a descriptive–quantitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through field observations, brief interviews with the developer, and a review of Greenship Neighborhood (GBCI) standards and international green building frameworks (LEED, BREEAM, WELL, and EDGE). The assessment applied a Likert-scale, presence-based approach, with a weighting scheme of 60% for energy efficiency and 40% for neighborhood innovation, complemented by a sensitivity check using an alternative 50:50 weighting scheme. Results: The assessment results indicate that MGK achieved a final score of 4.8 under both the 60:40 and 50:50 weighting schemes, demonstrating consistency across different weighting assumptions. The implementation of energy efficiency is reflected in the use of LED lighting across all housing units, the utilization of solar energy for neighborhood lighting, and the application of passive design strategies such as building orientation, cross-ventilation, and shading devices. Neighborhood innovation includes water and waste management systems such as bio-septic tanks, biopores, and artificial lakes, as well as the use of environmentally friendly materials with more than 40% domestic content. Conclusion: Of the 2 variables that have been applied, the maximum score is obtained on the criteria for renewable energy types, passive design strategies, along with innovation in residential areas. This research shows that the concept of green housing can be applied contextually and realistically to subsidized housing through an emphasis on energy efficiency and adaptive regional innovation.     Analisis Implementasi Prosedur Keselamatan Distribusi BBM: Studi Kasus PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Fuel Terminal Jambi

    Distribution of fuel oil (FO) using tanker trucks is highly risky. Although PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has adopted the Tanker Truck Safety Management System, accidents still occur. This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of FO distribution safety procedures at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Fuel Terminal Jambi. This study used a cross-sectional approach. Primary data were collected through direct observation of 50 tanker trucks, including the physical condition, completeness of documents, and driver behavior. Secondary data, such as accident and inspection reports, were also analyzed. Fishbone analysis was used to identify the root cause, and scoring was done to determine the solution. The evaluation showed that although the company had made efforts to implement safety procedures properly, 79 potential hazards were found in 38 of the 50 tanker trucks observed. The most common findings were related to damage to the emergency cut-off, fire extinguishers, and tires. Fishbone analysis identified human factors (awareness and understanding), materials (equipment quality), methods (inspection procedures), and the environment (road conditions) as the causes. The fuel distribution safety procedure at PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Fuel Terminal Jambi is quite effective, but it needs improvement in supervision, training, and technology utilization.     This study analyzes the representation of multiculturalism within the Moroccan diaspora in the Netherlands based on the film Meskina (2021) by Daria Bukvic. The research question in this study is how multiculturalism is represented through the lives of the Moroccan diaspora in the Netherlands in the film Meskina (2021). This study using a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the representation of multiculturalism in the film. Meskina, a romantic comedy film, portrays the dynamics of the Moroccan diaspora community in the Netherlands, particularly focusing on millennial women or the second generation living amid Dutch multiculturalism, as seen from the perspective of the main character. Using Stuart Hall’s theory of representation and Aart van Zoest’s semiotics, this study reveals the shift in cultural values between the first and second generations of the Moroccan diaspora, especially in aspects of marriage, career, language use, and clothing style. The first generation is portrayed as holding firmly to their traditional values or cultural roots, while the second generation is more integrated into their surroundings but faces challenges in balancing Dutch culture with their original cultural identity. The purpose of this study is to describe the authentic representation of multiculturalism within the Moroccan diaspora in the Netherlands as depicted in the film Meskina. The findings conclude that Meskina successfully represents the life and cultural dynamics of the Moroccan diaspora in the Netherlands in accordance with today’s reality

    CULTURAL DISCOUNT: BREAKTHROUGH POINT OF CHINA\u27S TV DRAMA EXPORTS TO SOUTHEAST ASIA

    Driven by China\u27s Going Global strategy, the international influence of Chinese TV series continues to grow. As a key vehicle of China\u27s cultural soft power, these TV series have significantly bolstered China\u27s global cultural presence, particularly in Southeast Asia, by showcasing China\u27s rich history and contemporary societal changes. Despite certain geographical and cultural similarities between China and Southeast Asia, cultural differences still present challenges to the dissemination of Chinese TV dramas, particularly in areas such as language, values, and religious beliefs. This paper not only analyzes effective strategies for mitigating cultural discounts but also challenges the traditional one-dimensional view of cultural discount theory by examining the success of Chinese films and TV dramas currently popular in Southeast Asia. In fact, the influence of cultural discounts in this region is relatively minor, demonstrating that Chinese culture can achieve broader recognition and resonance in the Southeast Asian market through targeted adaptation and localization strategies

    POST BREXIT: FRENCH MEDIA’S VIEWS ON THE BRITISH MONARCHY

    The Brexit referendum has stimulated European media to highlight the impact for Britain and other European Union countries. As a country established with two different political ideologies, French media has the ability to cover the latest global issues from the point of view of their political ideology. This research aims to see whether the French media shows a negative framing towards Britain and maintains the media ideology, right (Le Figaro) and center-left (Le Monde), in publicizing the news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the cancer diagnosis of King Charles III. This qualitative research uses the Creswell (2014) method, syntactic theory by Le Querler (1994), and media framing by Pan & Kosicki (1993). The research found that there is no negative sentiment from French media towards Britain. However, Le Figaro’s coverage reflects a negative framing towards the news of Charles III\u27s current health. This is evidenced through the usage of simple sentences (les phrases simples) with a direct approach in Le Figaro’s headlines to give the impression of its focus to the continuation of the monarchy. By contrast, Le Monde’s coverage tends to use compound sentences (les phrases complexes) in the headlines with a descriptive content that focuses on the reader’s emotions. The dismantling script and rhetorical structure of news media framing by Pan & Kosicki (1993) are the essential elements of this research to identify how the French media frames news regarding two leaders of the British monarchy

    Vehicle emissions including traffic and transportation emissions have become the largest source of particulates in many cities in various countries. Health problems due to particulates from motor vehicles can not only occur around the highway, but can also occur in industries that are in contact with motor vehicles. Under these conditions, researchers wanted to conduct a study at UP PKB Pulo Gadung to see the relationship between PM2.5 concentrations and complaints of respiratory problems. The study sample totaled 38 people, consisting of mechanical testers and FKM UI community members as a comparison sample. The average result of measurements taken in the mechanical test track was 100.53 μg/m3. While the measurement results in the FKM UI environment as a comparison averaged 56.72 μg/m3. A total of 33 out of 38 samples experienced respiratory symptoms, with the most experienced symptom being sneezing (76.31%). From the results of the chi-square test between PM2.5 concentrations and respiratory complaints, the p-value = 0.05 was obtained, which means that there is a significant relationship between PM2.5 concentrations and respiratory complaints.
