    KULINER SEBAGAI REPRESENTASI IDENTITAS DIASPORA KOREA DI AMERIKA SERIKAT: STUDI KASUS JURU MASAK EDWARD LEE

    In recent years, the popularity of Korean cuisine has experienced a significant increase, in parallel with the growing influence of the Korean Wave (hallyu) across various countries. Beyond this cultural phenomenon, Korean diaspora communities have also played a crucial role in promoting Korean cuisine on a global scale. This study aims to analyze the representation of Korean-American diaspora identity through a case study of culinary presentation innovations by chef Edward Lee in the reality show Culinary Class Wars. The research adopts a descriptive qualitative method. The findings indicate that Edward Lee’s diasporic identity is represented through the fusion cuisine he presents, as reflected in his choice of ingredients, presentation style, and the personal narratives that accompany his dishes. Lee embraces both cultural backgrounds and incorporates them as integral components of his identity. This representation also serves as part of the broader strategy of Korean cultural globalization, utilizing global media platforms such as Netflix to convey Korean culture to a worldwide audience through the figure of the diaspora

    Sustaining Digital Health Interventions for Long-Term Cardiovascular Disease Prevention in the Energy Industry

    Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major health concern for energy industry workers due to occupational risks. Digital health interventions (DHIs) offer innovative strategies for CVD prevention in this high-risk group. This study aimed to explore the effectiveness and sustainability of DHI by incorporating behavior change theories, behavior change techniques, and principles of persuasive system design. A literature review was performed using PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and CINAHL databases to collect relevant information on interventions for CVD prevention among energy sector workers. The results indicated that while DHI could improve physical activity, dietary habits, and medication adherence in the short term, sustaining these changes remained challenging due to intervention fatigue, lack of ongoing support, and changing user engagement. To maintain long-term effectiveness, strategies including adaptive interventions, gamification, social support, and iterative refinement based on user feedback are essential. Furthermore, employing a user-centered design approach and integrating DHIs with existing health programs can further enhance sustained behavior change. In conclusion, DHI holds significant potential for CVD prevention in the energy industry. However, its long-term success requires structured approaches, personalized strategies, and ongoing evaluation tailored to this unique occupational setting

    From Concept to Community: Phased Modularity in a Participatory Public Space Design

    This paper examines the idea of modularity as an extensive framework within the participatory design approach. Modularity is explored not only as a design and construction method but also as a collaboration framework that allows architecture to evolve through collaboration. In exploring the idea, this paper elaborates modularity through a community service design project at Alun-Alun Cemara Miagan, an open space in Miagan Mojoagung, Indonesia, emphasizing a participatory approach that involved local stakeholders and architects in developing a multifunctional public space. Due to the phased funding from the government, the project adopted modular strategies to enable flexible, incremental development aligned with community input. Three modular prototypes were developed: a gate responding to budget and fabrication constraints; a canopy providing adaptable shaded areas; and a building offering spatial flexibility for public functions. Through collaborative ideation in the participatory process, the hands-on engagement and iterative refinement from the community directly informed these design outcomes. This study demonstrates that modularity also supported local industries and addressed funding rhythms, demonstrating its value in both technical and social dimensions. The study also concludes that modular design can foster resilient, adaptable, and resource-efficient public spaces. It contributes to the discourse on community-based architecture and suggests future exploration of digital tools to enhance participatory modular development

    Feeling at Home Outdoors: The Courtyard of the Rozes House

    Although the courtyard was not a central element in the early stages of the Modernist movement, it later became a key transitional space between the interior and the exterior. This concept was reinterpreted in Spain through a balance between modernity and tradition, particularly in holiday homes along the Costa Brava. This research explores the role of the outdoor room in modern Mediterranean architecture and its relationship with the environment, using José Antonio Coderch\u27s Rozes House as a case study. Through redrawing, the text aims to analyse how the \u27outdoor room\u27 in Rozes House enhances spatial continuity and strengthens the relationship between architecture, inhabitants, and the landscape. It helps to restore the identity and memory of the place through spatial solutions that respect both the landscape and tradition, reaffirming its power as a catalyst for a fulfilling way of life. As an essential design tool, the outdoor room transforms the domestic space by integrating nature and enriching the inhabitant\u27s experience

    The Collapse of Negara Hukum: How Indonesia’s Rule of Law has been Shaped by Embedded Oligarch Politics?

    This article argues recent performance of the rule of law in the 25-years period after Soeharto’s authoritarian regime. Why has there been a weakening of civil liberties, while on the other hand the oligarchic power and authoritarianism strengthens the current Indonesia’s politics. This article examines the prevalence of arbitrary practices, not only in the fair procedural process of law enforcement, but also why it is so easy to pass anti-democratic laws that contradict the principles of the rule of law. By referring to three specific case studies: free expression, academic freedom and press freedom, this article found that politics in Indonesia have become increasingly cartelized, while at the same time, systemically featured embedded oligarch politics. This starts from cartelized party by designing oligarch-based election trapped into constitutional system. In current politics, Jokowi’s administration represents the re-consolidation and strengthening of ‘new model’ of authoritarianism, which has seriously affected the rule of law, human rights and constitutional democracy, including the fundamental right to freedom of expression. Therefore, unsurprisingly, his political legacies during the Prabowo era and Jokowi\u27s son, Gibran, will work with the same pattern and strategy of exploiting oligarchic power relations in the legal system

    Work stress symptoms are a condition where there is a mismatch between a person\u27s condition and work demands, resulting in mental (psychological), physical, and behavioral disorders. Government employees are among those who are vulnerable to experiencing work stress symptoms. Based on preliminary study results, the Probolinggo Regency Health Office is one of the type A offices with a high workload, and several employees have been found to experience symptoms of work stress. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of applying instrumental music-based progressive muscle relaxation techniques on work stress symptoms in employees at the Probolinggo Regency Health Office. The method used in this study was a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent control group design. A total of 50 samples were selected using the proportionate stratified random sampling technique. This study used the Short Version of the New Brief Job Stress Questionnaire (SV-NBJSQ) to measure work stress symptoms in employees.     Health insurance is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Indonesian government. However, coverage among female workers aged 25–29 remains low with significant disparities across regions. This cross-sectional study aims to analyze access to health insurance among female workers aged 25–29 in Indonesia and identify factors contributing to these gaps. The study used secondary data from the 2017 Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (SDKI), involving 8,394 women who met the inclusion criteria, focusing on health insurance ownership status. Descriptive analysis was conducted to assess the distribution of coverage proportions across regions, with bias control performed through data selection and multi-layered validation of the 2017 IDHS data. The main variables included health insurance ownership and respondents\u27 age. Among all respondents, only 30.50% had health insurance, while 69.50% lacked coverage. Higher coverage rates were observed in Aceh, West Java, and West Sulawesi. This study highlights the urgent need for more equitable health insurance distribution particularly in areas with limited access to healthcare coverage. Strengthening healthcare infrastructure, reinforcing health insurance policies, increasing public awareness, and optimizing the National Health Insurance Program (JKN) are essential steps to achieving comprehensive coverage

    EFFECTIVE AND ECO-FRIENDLY STRATEGIES TO CONTROL BIRDS IN INDUSTRIAL ESTATE

    Bird infestations in industrial areas can cause infrastructure damage, contamination, and health risks. Despite these impacts, they are rarely addressed in environmental management strategies. At the Kaltim Industrial Estate (KIE) in Bontang, East Kalimantan, synanthropic bird species that thrive in human-altered environments have become persistent nuisances, particularly because of structural opportunities for roosting and altered ecological conditions. To address this issue, this study applied Integrated Pest Bird Management (IPBM), a non-lethal and environmentally friendly approach that combines species identification, behavior analysis, and targeted deterrents. IPBM was selected for its adaptability to industrial settings and its alignment with sustainable development goals. This study conducted from January to July 2024 at KIE, Riksa Gatra Prima, in collaboration with Institute Pertanian Bogor (IPB). Veterinary and Medical Entomology Laboratory. The Birds were identified based on their morphological features and vocalizations. Three nonlethal control methods: predator sound playback, laser pointers, and net installations, which were selected for their previous use in wildlife control and low ecological impacts. The data were descriptively analyzed and supported by visual documentation. The Asian glossy starling (Aplonis panayensis) was identified as the sole pest species with a density of 13 individuals per meter. Its success is attributed to its territoriality, adaptability, and social roosting. Predator sounds and lasers were ineffective (0%), whereas net installations achieved complete bird exclusion (100%) over 14-day period. Although limited to one species and site, the findings demonstrate the effectiveness of netting as a scalable, eco-friendly deterrent. This method can be integrated into environmental frameworks, such as the Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan (EMMP) and ISO 14001, to support sustainable operations and biodiversity protection in industrial zones

    COAL MINING RECLAMATION: LESSONS LEARNED FROM TROPICAL AND SUBTROPICAL COUNTRIES

    This study addresses the persistent environmental challenges associated with coal mining in tropical and subtropical regions, where complex microclimates and ecological variability hinder effective reclamation. Despite the increasing global coal demand, comparative cross-country insights remain limited. This research fills the gap by evaluating the best practices. This study employs a qualitative methodology with a comparative case study design, uses systematic literature review to evaluate ecology based reclamation policies and implementation practices. Data were sourced from peer-reviewed journals from Scopus and the Web of Science database and institutional reports, and analyzed using McHarg’s landscape ecology theory to evaluate reclamation policies, ecological challenges, and implementation practices. The results reveal that while all four tropical coal-producing countries possess clear regulatory frameworks for reclamation, their effectiveness varies due to ecological, climatic, and enforcement disparities. Australia demonstrates the most successful model, integrating strict policies with advanced technology and sustainable financing. Conversely, Colombia, Indonesia, and South Africa face challenges in enforcement and consistency. Thematic analysis from Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), shows that research is dominated by ecological and biodiversity aspects (44 articles), followed by reclamation technologies (22), economic-social factors (8), and regulatory studies (3). Aligning with McHarg’s landscape ecology theory, the study finds that successful reclamation hinges on site-specific ecological strategies, that are responsive to microclimates and landscape typologies. Technologies such as overburden non-acid forming (OB-NAF) encapsulation and electrodialysis reflect the ecosystem-based approach. However, future research must include empirical validation and community participation to strengthen long-term reclamation success and ecological resilience

    In Vitro α-Glucosidase Enzyme Inhibition Activity Test of Water Extract From Sintok (Cinnamomum sintoc Blume) Bark

    Diabetes mellitus is a condition characterized by elevated blood glucose levels beyond the normal limits. One therapeutic approach for managing diabetes mellitus involves inhibiting the α-glucosidase enzyme, which plays a role in glucose absorption in the body. However, the use of oral antidiabetic drugs from the α-glucosidase inhibitor class often causes gastrointestinal side effects. Therefore, exploring natural materials as alternative treatments is a promising option. In Indonesia, one plant with potential as an alternative treatment is sintok (Cinnamomum sintoc Blume), a member of the Cinnamomum genus, which is widely utilized in traditional medicine for chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus. This study aimed to evaluate the α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of a water extract of sintok bark. Preliminary tests were conducted to determine the optimal conditions for measuring α-glucosidase enzyme inhibition activity in vitro using a UV- vis spectrophotometer. The results showed optimal enzyme activity at a wavelength of 405 nm, an incubation time of 40 minutes, and a substrate concentration of 12.5 mM. The water extract of sintok bark exhibited the highest inhibitory activity at a concentration of 5 ppm, with an inhibition value of 28.66%, while acarbose, used as a positive control, achieved the highest inhibition value of 96.36% at a concentration of 4.5 ppm. In conclusion, the aqueous extract of sintok bark demonstrates inhibitory activity against the α-glucosidase enzyme, indicating its potential as a natural antidiabetic agent
