Max Weber vs Émile Durkheim: Pertarungan Paradigma dalam Sosiologi Hukum di Indonesia
This study compares the thoughts of Max Weber and Emile Durkheim in the field of sociology of law and their relevance to the development of law in Indonesia. Weber emphasizes formal rational law through a positivistic approach, highlighting individual rationality in shaping social structures. In contrast, Durkheim views law as a tool of social solidarity rooted in morality and collective norms. This study employs a normative method integrated with hermeneutic philosophy, delving into the meaning of legal concepts through an in-depth interpretation of doctrines, theories, and legal literature. A descriptive-narrative analysis is conducted to understand the historical, social, and philosophical contexts of these two perspectives, enriched with visualizations for deeper comprehension. The findings indicate that Weber\u27s approach is relevant for supporting legal and economic development, whereas Durkheim\u27s perspective is more applicable for accommodating the plurality of customary law or living law. This article recommends integrating both approaches to establish a legal system in Indonesia that is responsive to social diversity and adaptive to the demands of national development
Self-Medication Behavior of Dental Students with Oral Ulceration Lesions: A Cross-Sectional Study in Yogyakarta, Indonesia
Objective: Self-medication refers to medication behavior for self-diagnosed symptoms. Oral ulcers are self-medicated lesions in the oral cavity. Dental students have different knowledge about oral cavity lesions and may self-medicate using drugs. This study aimed to determine the self-medication behavior of dental students for oral ulcers. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on dental students in the Faculty of Dentistry from different batch years. Purposive sampling was used to select students with oral ulcer lesions in the last six months. A validated and reliable questionnaire was used to assess self-medication behavior. Data collection using the online form. Student behavior data were presented descriptively and analyzed using a one-way ANOVA test. Results: The mean of self-medication behavior for oral ulcers was observed to be higher for the earliest intake group (2015–2016) of students than for the middle (2017–2018) or most recent (2019–2020) year groups. The results of the one-way ANOVA test showed that the p-value was not significant between the groups of dental students. Conclusion: No difference was observed in the self-medication behavior for oral ulcers among dental students based on their study year
Dampak Jumlah Kredit yang Dimiliki Rumah Tangga terhadap Kekerasan dalam Rumah Tangga (KDRT) pada Anak di Indonesia
This study examines the impact of intensity of household debt on domestic violence (DV) towards children in Indonesia. There is a positive relationship between the amount of household debt and the likelihood of domestic violence towards children based on literature review. This research uses a quantitative method with multinomial logistic regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that households with more than one household debt are correlated with an increased likelihood of both psychological and physical domestic violence towards children compared to the likelihood of no domestic violence, both before and after controlling variables added
African Swine Fever in Indonesia: Insights from Southeast Asia’s Policy Response through The One Health Approach
African Swine Fever (ASF) seriously threatens pig production systems, food security, and rural livelihoods across Southeast Asia. This study employs an analysis of secondary national data from Indonesia using a quantitative descriptive analysis approach, complemented by regional policy responses to ASF from 2019 to 2024. To contextualize regional findings, this study also integrates official statistics from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) covering provincial pork production trends (2021–2023), the number of ASF-affected pigs per province (2020–2024), and per capita pork consumption by district. Quantitative data show that ASF outbreaks have been disproportionately concentrated in specific provinces such as East Nusa Tenggara and North Sumatra, significantly impacting national pork production and local consumption trends. The average provincial ASF case numbers trend reveals a sharp decline after 2021, with notable fluctuations across subsequent years. These findings highlight the urgent need for harmonized surveillance, stronger biosecurity practices, and the development of context-specific policies that address ASF\u27s epidemiological and socio-economic dimensions. The study underscores the importance of integrating scientific research, government data, and regional coordination to improve Southeast Asian ASF preparedness and response strategies
The Jokowi Effect on the Victory of Prabowo: Do People Vote for Continuity?
The 2024 Indonesian presidential election marked a striking realignment as Prabowo Subianto—a former opposition leader—secured victory with the tacit endorsement of outgoing President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). This study investigates how the enduring popularity and policy achievements of Jokowi shaped voter preferences in favor of Prabowo, effectively positioning the election as a referendum on political continuity. Building on theories of economic voting and retrospective performance evaluation, the analysis explores the impact of district-level economic indicators, social media penetration, ideological orientation, social assistance distribution, and sociocultural characteristics on electoral outcomes. Employing Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression on data from 481 administrative regions, the study uncovers a robust positive relationship between the 2019 vote share for Jokowi and the 2024 performance of Prabowo. These findings highlight the potency of pocketbook voting—voter assessments of their economic welfare—in sustaining incumbent influence and advancing the theory of economic voting by demonstrating how the legacy of a sitting president can persist through perceptions of economic stewardship
Catatan Managing Editor Memandang diri lewat pandangan orang lain: Catatan editorial tentang meta-prasangka
In October 2023, when I was still living in Chicago, United States, Idhamsyah Eka Putra, one of the leading social psychology researchers, contacted me with a rather long text message. Although it was sent via a short message, the content was as complete as a proposal; it consisted of an introduction, urgency, and a forward-looking plan. He began by explaining that the concept of meta-prejudice, which he first introduced in 2014, would soon be 10 years old. To strengthen the presence of this concept, he proposed that the Journal of Social Psychology publish a Special Issue on meta-prejudice and asked me to be part of the editorial team. Without much hesitation, I agreed to the offer. Although many social psychology researchers in Indonesia have recently published scholarly articles, those who seriously formulate, test, and publish new conceptual ideas in international journals are very rare. I felt that this proposal deserved a warm welcome and strong support
From p-Values to Practical Relevance: An Introduction to Effect Sizes Through a Legal Psychological Example
Null-hypothesis significance testing and p-values are frequently criticized for their focus on detecting non-zero differences and their inability to provide evidence for the null hypothesis. In this article, we highlight how effect sizes, when meaningfully interpreted, can address these issues. Specifically, we argue that researchers should consider the smallest effect size of interest (SESOI) - the smallest effect size that yields practical or theoretical relevance. We propose several methods for estimating the SESOI and present a consensus study among Indonesian professionals which can be used to estimate the SESOI for child eyewitness testimony research. Results suggest that most Indonesian professionals consider one to two memory errors sufficient to take action, such as deeming testimony unreliable. We then showed how the SESOI, combined with confidence intervals, can be used data and power analyses (e.g., minimum-effect testing, equivalence testing). Finally, we emphasize that the practical relevance of an effect size should be carefully evaluated before making policy recommendations
Problem Videogame Playing Scale: A Preliminary Study of Measurement Invariance between English and Malay
Purpose: Distinguishing between problematic and non-problematic gamers is a priority concern. Although the Problem Videogame Playing (PVP) Scale might be useful as a screening tool of IGD, there is little evidence to support the measurement invariance of the PVP scale. This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the English and Malay versions of the PVP scale. Methods: A total of 646 secondary school students aged between 12 and 18 years were recruited to participate in this study. Results: The unidimensional structure of the PVP scale was confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis. The PVP scale correlates well with other game-related constructs, supporting its construct validity. The internal consistency of the PVP scale is high. The configural, metric, scalar, and residual invariance models supported the English and Malay versions of the PVP scale’s measurement invariance. Conclusion: Psychometrically, the PVP scale is a reliable and valid screening tool among English-speaking and Malay-speaking samples. Extensive psychometric properties allow its use as a screening tool for IGD

Side-hustle dalam Dinamika Kemiskinan Pekerja: Tinjauan Empiris di Indonesia
Working poverty remains a persistent issue in Indonesia. The high prevalence of working poor underscores the urgent need for effective poverty alleviation efforts. This study analyzes the relationship between side hustles, excessive working hours, and working poverty in Indonesia. Utilizing microdata from the March 2023 Susenas and applying binary logistic regression, the study assesses the effect of side hustle status and excessive working hours on the likelihood of being categorized as working poor, based on the international working poverty line. The results indicate that engaging in a side hustle without excessive hours actually increases the risk of working poverty, while side hustles with excessive working hours reduce that risk. These findings suggest that side hustles are only effective in alleviating poverty when performed with excessive hours, a condition that may further exacerbate worker vulnerability. This study implies the need for policies focused on improving job quality, regulating working hours, and providing social protection for individuals engaged in side hustles
