Agricultural Extension in An Urban Informal Settlement During COVID-19: The Effectiveness of the “Tanimang Bayan” Initiative in Sitio San Roque, North Triangle, Quezon City

    No full text
The COVID-19 pandemic exposed deep inequalities in food access, particularly in urban informal settlements. This study examines the effectiveness of the “Tanimang Bayan” initiative, an urban agriculture project implemented in Sitio San Roque, Quezon City, as a form of agricultural extension during the pandemic. The research adopts a qualitative approach, drawing on data from key informant interviews, participant observation, and secondary sources. Findings indicate that the initiative provided a localized response to food insecurity by enhancing access to fresh produce and promoting community-led production. It also supported collective action and self-organization among residents, strengthening their autonomy in navigating structural limitations. These outcomes suggest that community-based agricultural interventions can contribute meaningfully to resilience-building and local food systems in marginalized urban contexts

Pola Sebaran Spasial pada Kejadian Stunting di Provinsi Lampung Tahun 2019 -2023

    No full text

An Alternative to the Liberal World Order: China, BRICS, and Middle East Diplomacy

    No full text
This paper explores how China and BRICS are emerging as strategic alternatives to the liberal international order, particularly in the realm of diplomacy and mediation for periphery states in the Middle East. Drawing on a realist theoretical framework, the study argues that these platforms offer pragmatic, interest-based avenues for engagement that contrast sharply with the conditionalities and normative expectations of Western-led institutions. Through case studies such as China’s mediation in the Iran–Saudi Arabia normalization and the expansion of BRICS+ to include Middle Eastern actors, the paper demonstrates how sovereignty, non-interference, and multipolarity have become central organizing principles for a new diplomatic architecture. For periphery states traditionally excluded or constrained by the liberal order, BRICS and China provide critical tools to bargain, hedge, and enhance agency in an increasingly fragmented world

Effects of Political Predispositions, Media Use, and Media Evaluation on Policy Malaise among Indonesian and German People

    No full text
This study explores a comparative analysis of Germany and Indonesia in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, emphasizing the importance of addressing cross-cultural dimensions in global health crises—a field that remains underexplored. By enhancing preparedness for future emergencies, the research critically examines whether theoretical assumptions developed in Global North contexts can be meaningfully extended to Global South settings. Specifically, this study hypothesizes that political predispositions, media use, and media evaluation are associated with policy malaise, and investigates these associations in light of cross-cultural differences. Using data from Germany (n = 1,458) and Indonesia (n = 1,043), the findings reveal significant differences between the two nations in the prevalence of political predispositions, media consumption habits, media evaluations, and levels of policy malaise. Further analysis demonstrates that while assumptions developed and tested within Global North contexts are partially applicable to Global South settings, the observed effect sizes vary. Finally, the study situates its results within the distinct cultural and political contexts of each nation, offering a nuanced critique of how social constructs shape policy perceptions in non-Western societies

THE ABSENCE OF FEMALE REPRESENTATION IN FILM BAMBANG (2022): THE MALE GAZE AND LACANIAN OBJET PETIT A

    No full text
The discourse of the male gaze in popular culture constructs ideal standards of femininity deemed attractive based on traits and physical appearances that are desired by men. The film Bambang (2022) is an example of media that employs the male gaze as an exclusive tool to present female characters. By applying the mise-en-scène analysis method in film studies, this article explores the problem of female characters representation that is reduced to be desired objects through the concepts of Laura Mulvey\u27s male gaze and Lacanian objet petit a. This article finds that Bambang (2022) utilizes objectifying dialogue by the two main male characters to present and represent the female characters, while intended to create a humorous effect. The female characters are evaluated based on their appearances, regarded as “leftovers” to be contested, and depicted as objects of sexual desire for men. Although the female characters hold crucial roles in the story, their identities can only be imagined based on what the male characters describe. Despite their absence, they remain as desired objects for the male characters

LIFE-COURSE AND BIOGRAPHY OF THINGS: MINANGKABAU WOMEN\u27S HEADGEAR

    No full text
Like men, objects also have a biography or life-course. Both biographies are intertwined, so when someone experiences a new life phase transition in their life-course, it will cause changes in the objects attached to them. This is also supported by the statement that the identity is performative. The headgear as one of the elements used by Minangkabau women also represents the identity of the wearer. This research was conducted in three stages: (1) data collection in the form of old photos and literature of Minangkabau women with headgear in Batipuh, Fort de Kock, and Payakumbuh, (2) data processing by analysis of the data in context space, time, and concepts, then (3) interpretation. The approach used is the Life-Course by Roberta Gilchrist and Biography of Things by Igor Kopytoff, which focuses on age and cultural markers. The research results show that the identity of Minangkabau women is reflected in their headgear, so major life transitions also lead to changes in these headgears, both in terms of form and material. This article also discusses the concept of age in Minangkabau women. It can be a reference for marking the age of Minangkabau women\u27s headgear, examining its relationship to rites passages, like marriage

SCOPING REVIEW: FAKTOR – FAKTOR YANG MEMPENGARUHI KEPUTUSAN LANSIA MEMILIH SENIOR LIVING

    No full text
Abstract Senior living has emerged as an alternative solution to public health and social policy challenges amid the global acceleration of aging. Traditionally perceived as a last resort, life in senior living facilities is shaped by evolving dynamics in health, family, and society. This scoping review explores the key factors influencing older adults\u27 decisions to reside in senior living communities during their later years. Utilizing Andersen’s Behavioral Model of Health Service Use as a theoretical framework, the review was conducted following PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Articles published between 2019 and 2024 were identified through searches in PubMed, Scopus, ProQuest, and Taylor & Francis, yielding 42 articles encompassing various geographical contexts. Predisposing factors included declining independence with age, female gender, and higher educational attainment. Enabling factors involved the absence of caregivers, financial readiness, and urban residence. Need-related factors consistently reported chronic illnesses and multimorbidity as primary reasons for choosing senior living. These findings provide valuable insights to inform decision-makers concerned with the well-being of the elderly

REPRESENTASI STRATIFIKASI SOSIAL DALAM FILM\u3ci\u3e ZOETE DROMEN\u3c/i\u3e (2023) KARYA ENA SENDIJAREVIC

    No full text
Film is a form of visual art that can shape public perceptions of various aspects of life, including social and cultural issues. One of the recurring themes in film is colonialism, which often represents issues such as racism and social stratification. These themes are reflected in the film Zoete Dromen (2023), directed by Ena Sendijarević, with a runtime of 1 hour and 42 minutes. The film narrates a conflict over inheritance within a sugar plantation-owning family, in which the entire estate is left to a child born from a relationship with a concubine. The research problem addressed in this study is: how is the representation of social stratification constructed in the film Zoete Dromen (2023) by Ena Sendijarević? The aim of this study is to describe the general depiction of social stratification in Zoete Dromen (2023) by analyzing the dialogue and visual elements among the characters. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method. It is grounded in Max Weber’s concept of social stratification, particularly his definitions of social class, social honor, and power. The concept of social stratification is further supported by Stuart Hall’s theory of cultural representation through the constructionist approach. The findings of this study indicate that the film portrays power as the central element of social relations, representing indigenous identity through language, symbols, and power dynamics. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of indigenous identity within the broader framework of social stratification as depicted in the film Zoete Dromen (2023)
