    Role of lattice defects on superconducting phase in PdDx system

    application/pdfThe interactions of hydrogen with the lattice defects in palladium have attracted much attention because macroscopic properties such as hydrogen storage and metal embrittlement are markedly affected by H (D)-defect interactions. In this paper we report the inhomogeneous superconducting state in PdDx and the hydrogen absorption/desorption processes on annealed and unannealed Pd wires. Deuterium was loaded simultaneously with unannealed Pd wire in the “as received” condition and annealed Pd wire by electrolysis in 0.1M LiOD in D2O at room temperature. A superconducting (SC) state, however, is induced only for the unannealed Pd wire and is robust against time. Since the easier insertion and stronger trapping of D atoms is realized at the vacancies and dislocation cores, an SC region (relatively D-rich region) may be formed around the lattice defects and a nonSC region may be formed around the regions away from the dislocation cores and vacancies. In addition, we find that the reduction of x estimated from Tc is much smaller than reduction of x estimated from Ta, indicating the slower escape of D atoms in the SC region than in the nonSC region. This result suggests occurrence of the SC state is associated with the formation of a dense Cottrell cloud of D atoms at around lattice defects.departmental bulletin pape

    application/pdf広島県廿日市市の中山間地域に位置する農村集落である浅原(高齢化率50.5%)は、生活サポート拠点や公共交通網を整備することによって、持続可能な地域コミュニティの形成を目指している。地域内に商店がなく、移動販売車が毎週木曜日に訪問することとなり、地域中央への移動ニーズが高まった。しかし、依然として買回品の購入や病院は地域外に出かけるしかない。本研究では、地域中央の生活拠点を利用する高齢者の生活行動調査を行った。その結果、集落ごとの地理的特性(生活拠点までの距離、標高差など)に大きな差はなく、日常の生活行動と移動は、「年齢」及び「日常の交通手段」が大きな影響を与えていることが分かった。departmental bulletin pape

    Preliminary environmental measurement by high school-university cooperation using IoT

    application/pdfUsing the Sigfox network and the Internet, we created an IoT device equipped with temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure sensors that are related to the environment. We acquired environment-related data from IoT devices and displayed it on the Web using ThinSpeak. Furthermore, the data was processed using Matlab / Simulink, and the data such as discomfort coefficient and heat coefficient could be redisplayed using ThingSpeak. In this research, the IoT device was installed in a high school as part of a high school-university collaboration research, and data was successfully acquired without going through the network in the high school. Furthermore, we were able to display the results on the PCs and smartphones of all concerned parties. In the future, I would like to aim to build an education system that uses a large amount of data obtained from sensors.departmental bulletin pape

    On the motifs that express Group Form in Fumihiko Maki’s architectural works

    application/pdfThe architect Fumihiko Maki is one of the proponents of Metabolism, and has been pursuing the concept of group formation through his architectural works and discourses. In his works, we can find abstract motifs such as “volume” and “cross”, as well as cones, staircases, Maki’s idea of “OKU”, and many other elements of expression. In this study, I will focus on the YKK Guest House and the Spiral to demonstrate how the motifs found in Maki’s architectural works function as expressions in the works in which they exist. YKK Guest House, like the Iwasaki Art Museum and Annex, has clearer elements that develop independently and parallelly while maintaining their form. In contrast, Spiral, while transforming its form, is interrelated with each other, and its flatness and multilayeredness are linked to the expression of “OKU”.departmental bulletin pape

    Mechanisms underlying stress tolerance during oogenesis in Japanese eel.

    application/pdfThe presence of the antioxidant enzyme Cu/Zn-superoxide dismutase (SOD)and zinc in spermatogonia of Japanese eel has been shown to play an important role in the antioxidant system of germ cells. The purpose of this study was to clarify the mechanisms involved in the stress tolerance during oogenesis. The total SOD activity and the zinc levels, measured by a competitive inhibition assay with a tetrazolium salt, and zinc fluorescent probe, respectively, were found to decrease as the oocyte developed into more advanced stage. By employing an organ culture system, zinc deficiency induced by an intracellular zinc chelating agent (TPEN) was observed to cause atresia of follicle cells. Addition of zinc ions attenuates TPEN-induced atresia. These results imply a relationship between SOD and zinc, and suggests an involvement of zinc in stress tolerance of follicle cells.departmental bulletin pape

    application/pdfFour textbooks of basic physics have been published in series in our Institute. Their titles are Basic Mechanics for Science and Technology(2nd ed.),Basic Physics Workbook(2nd ed.),Basic Mechanics Workbook(3rd ed.),and Basic Experimental Physics for Science and Technology(4th ed.).The teaching staffs responsible for the basic physics education have edited and revised these textbooks which are used for lectures, exercises and experiments, of physics linking to engineering subjects. The present report describes the background on the publication, the editorial policy, the contents and the educational effects, of Basic Physics Workbook. This Workbook covers a wide field of basic physics introduced with the electromagnetic, thermal and quantum properties of condensed matter. The Workbook has been actively used as the textbooks for six subjects and the study-aid books for three subjects. Some plans including the future revision are proposed to make the engineering education reliable both inside and outside the Institute.departmental bulletin pape

    application/pdfフランスでは大学入学資格試験であるバカロレア試験が2021年度より大幅な変更となるが、これに向けた教育課程では、普通科の高校2年、3年での週2時間の必修教科として、理系教科を統合したような教科「科学の教育ES」が設置された。この教科についてその概要と特徴を以下のように報告した。 この度のバカロレア試験から導入される内申点・継続評価対象の教科であること、いわゆる理系と文系の分断に伴う社会の歪に対する課題意識から誕生した教科であること、フランスの教科名でいうところの物理・化学、生命と地球の科学、数学、情報科学系教科の4教科の学際的な教科であること、新たな知識の獲得ではなく既習内容を使いこなすという視点から作りこまれていること、科学を物語という視点で捉えて作り込まれてきたこと、哲学の教師など文系教科担当教師の協力も必要であること、異質性・学力幅のあるクラスで教える困難さ、担当や教員配置の課題もあることを踏まえた上で、実施に踏み切っていること。departmental bulletin pape

    A Study on Dynamic Behavior of Glass Screen System of Low-Rise Steel Frame Building Based on Microtremor Observation and Vibration Experiments and Earthquake Response Observations

    application/pdfDynamic behavior of glass screen of low-rise steel frame building has been examined by microtremor observation, free vibration test and earthquake response observations. Natural frequencies and damping ratios for lower modes are also estimated by microtremor tests, free vibration tests and strong-motion earthquake measurements. Natural frequencies estimated by the large earthquake response are approximately 15?25% smaller than those estimated by microtremor observation and free vibration test. Amplitude dependent characteristics are slightly observed in estimated natural frequencies. Vibration characteristics during several lowlevel earthquake responses are estimated.departmental bulletin pape
