Local Heat Transfer of Tube Embedded Horizontally in a Liquid-fluidized Bed
conference pape
Development of a web-based system for VLSI design education
application/pdfIn general, the number of VLSI CAD workstations should be more than the number of students in VLSI design education. In Experiments II of Department of Electrical and Digital Systems Engineering, a server and six PCs are used for a small number of students in a group. This system can not be used for a large number of students in a class of other lectures related to VLSI design. In this paper, a web-based system for VLSI design education has been developed in order to support a large number of students in the classes. The web servers are connected to the CAD applications by CGI written in Perl. By using this system, students can use the VLSI CAD applications from the PCs anywhere in the campus. If the designed files are downloaded to the PCs in the N10-108PC room (in Department of Electrical and Digital Systems Engineering), CPLD boards can be used to verify the designed circuits.departmental bulletin pape

A Study of the Role of Knowledge and a Technical Holder in a Community Planning
application/pdfIn citizen participation type community planning activities, the importance of the specialist concerned as a support subject is increasing. However, it is difficult for an operating-specialist to support to all that are called for. Moreover, it is difficult to request a consultant also from the financial problem of community planning activities. Therefore, practical use of the talented people in support of a function group or an NPO organization, a volunteer specialist, and a general participant is required. By this research, while grasping a specialist's role, the possibility of actualization of new talented people is examined.departmental bulletin pape
Saussure and Chomsky
application/pdfFerdinand de Saussure and Noam Chomsky have had much influence not only on linguistic theories but also on other fields of science. Saussure contends that the language itself is a form, not a substance. While Chomsky claims that linguistics is conceived as the study of I-language and I-language is an aspect of the physical world. It is thought that there are some similarities between Saussure’s “form” and Chomsky’s “I-language.” But these two linguists’ theories are not fundamentally compatible with each other in that “form” is not material and “I-language” is physical.departmental bulletin pape
Numerical Study for Two Dimensional Channel Flow by Lattice Boltzmann Method
application/pdfIt has been verified by many researchers that the lattice Boltzmann method has the ability to simulate the viscous fluid flow as precisely as the finite difference method. The incompressible viscous fluid flow in the inlet section of two-dimensional channel are computed by the lattice Boltzmann method. In this paper, the computed results by the lattice Boltzmann method are compared with the results using finite difference method, and are discussed for the concave velocity profiles at the initial stage of development channel flow.departmental bulletin pape
Modeling and H∞ Control for an Inverted-Double Pendulum System Consisting of Elastic Links Connected in Series
application/pdfThe stabilizing control techniques for an inverted-double pendulum system consisting of elastic links connected in series are investigated by employing a distributed-parameter modeling method taking the 2nd and 3rd vibration modes of the elastic beam as the residual modes, and designing the H∞ controller with both frequency characteristics and integral ones based on the loop-shaped H∞ control scheme. It is found that the present design method is very convenient for such a flexible structure system having the jω poles as a double pendulum system discussed here, and that the frequency-shaped H∞ controller has not only the simultaneous suppression effect against the chattering and the spillover components, but also the precise cart positioning control effect without static error. Furthermore, It is found that although the coupling effect of the different natural frequencies between two flexible beams makes the stabilization problem more difficult, even such a simple feedback controller using only the output signal based on the strain vibration on the upper elastic beam is possible in stabilizing the most unstable system.departmental bulletin pape
Roof-Tile Damage of Wooden Houses on Improved Hills Caused by the 2001 Geiyo Earthquake and Micro-Tremor Properties of the Ground
application/pdfThis paper presents the relation between roof-tile damage of wooden houses and ground shaking intensity by the 2001 Geiyo earthquake. The roof-tile damage of wooden houses caused by the Geiyo earthquake was surveyed at residential districts in and near the western part of Hiroshima City, Koi-ue, Nishi-Ward, and Ajinadai, Hatsukaichi City. Also questionnaire investigation for housing damage and ground shaking intensity was developed in Kure City and Ajinadai. Furthermore,a micro-tremor measurement technique was employed to investigate ground vibration property. The results are as follows: (1)Extensive damage of roof-tiles occurred on fill ground than cut ground. (2)The questionnaire seismic intensity is high on alluvium ground near hills and on ridges in Kure City, and on fill ground on improved hills in Ajinadai. The threshold intensity above which the roof-tile damage starts to appear can be between 5.5 and 6.0. (3)A ratio of horizontal spectrum to vertical one based on the micro-tremor measurement is found to have clearly different characteristics between fill and cut ground. This ground vibration property corresponds to larger roof-tile damage of wooden houses in fill ground on improved hills.departmental bulletin pape
Spatiotemporal dynamics of circular flow modes in a ring array of Bose-Einstein condensates
application/pdfWe numerically investigate the spatiotemporal dynamics of a circular flow mode in a ring array of Bose-
Einstein condensates, which consists of M identical Bose-Einstein condensates that couple to the nearestneighbor
sites by tunneling. Introducing a rotational potential in the Gross-Pitaevskii equation, a series of
circular flow modes is resonantly excited. For the initial conditions with uniform density and one-round phase
difference of 2p, sl=0,1, . . . ,M−1d, two circular flow modes are excited for each circulation-quantized
number l. It is shown that these circular flow modes periodically appear in time in the presence of the rotational
field and persistently survive with a constant shape even after the external potential is removed, the transitions
between the circular flow modes with different quantized number l can be realized by applying the phaseimprinting
optical pulses, and the rotational velocity of the circular flow mode can be continuously modulated
by adiabatically tuning the scattering length in a magnetic field, i.e., by use of the Feshbach resonance.journal articl
A Proposal of an Independent Source System Utilizing Wind Turbine Generator
application/pdfRecently, the introduction of wind turbine generator is made active in the world, in order to tackle the warming of the earth and the exhaustion of fossil fuels. In this paper, a new independent source system by consisting of wind turbine generator, diesel engine generator, electric water heater, and alternating power control device is proposed. The characteristics of this system are as follows: The brushless three-phase synchronous induction generator with two stators developed by authors is used as a wind turbine generator of this system, and then it is possible to make increase the generated energy. Moreover, the surplus power can be supplied to an electric water heater and the hot water can be utilized to hot-water supply system and air conditioning system. In this paper, the composition and operation of the proposed independent source system are described, and the experimental results by a proto-type system are shown. The possibility whether this system operates well or not is examined.departmental bulletin pape
