    Transient Characteristics of an Independent Source System Utilizing Wind Turbine Generator

    application/pdfThe authors have been making a study of an independent source system utilizing wind turbine generator in recent years. This system is composed of four main installations, that is, a wind turbine generator, a diesel engine generator, an electric water heater (or an electric power storage flywheel), and an alternating power control device. The strong points of this system is that it is possible to increase generating electric power, because the brushless three-phase synchronous induction generator with two stators and without exciter developed by authors is used as the wind turbine generator of this system. We have reported about the experimental results of electric power characteristics in steady state by using the simulated device of the proposed system up to now. In this experiment, the terminal voltage and the current of the proposed independent source system did not change and the quality of electric power was good when the wind turbine generator operates as a synchronous generator and also as an induction generator. In this paper, the experimental results of electric power characteristics in transient state of the simulated device are reported. In this experiment, the change of the terminal voltage and the current are extremely small and the electric power characteristics are very good while the operation of the wind turbine generator changes from synchronous generator driving to induction generator one and also in the opposite operation. The electric power characteristics of this simulated device in both steady and transient states are good; therefore this proposed system would be put to practical use.departmental bulletin pape

    ‘Kagura' in Hiroshima prefecture

    application/pdfThere are lots of and various types of ‘kagura’ in Hiroshima prefecture. The author,through observations of kagura in Hiroshima prefecture,divides it into 5 types:‘Geihoku-kagura’,‘Aki-Junijingi’,‘Kagura in Geiyo-islands’,‘Hiba-kojin-kagura’,and ‘Bingo-kagura’,and he explains each of 5 types of kagura in Hiroshima prefecture briefly. The author,through close observations of ecstatic movements of kagura,shows kagura is closely related to‘driving-out the evil spirits’. He concludes that kagura in Hiroshima prefecture relates not to dealing with ‘the soothing of gods’ but to dealing with ‘the dead souls’.departmental bulletin pape

    Life Prolongation of Steel Building Using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic Plate Part 1 Bending force rehabilitation of secondary beam

    application/pdfAging and deterioration of existing steel structures necessitates the development of simple and efficient rehabilitation techniques. Strengthening with bonded Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic plate has been rarely applied to steel structures, although it has often been applied to concrete structures. To enhance the usage life of existing steel buildings, a strengthening method with bonding Continuous fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) plates has been developed by authors. An analytical model is required that can predict the flexural rigidity and yield moment as well as the stresses induced in FRP plates of rehabilitated members. This paper reports the results of bending tests conducted on a Narrow H -shaped steel beam before and after rehabilitation using FRP plates. These results show enhanced flexural rigidity and the moment carrying capacity of the beam due to bonding FRP plate. An analytical model is also proposed that can predict the flexural rigidity of rehabilitated steel beam.departmental bulletin pape

    On the Siheyuan and Tulou as a traditional residence : a study on the facade of residence in China

    application/pdfIn China, since it is usual that the facade of housing is regarded as function to protect a place where people live, the design of the facade is not paid too much attention. However, with development in economy and society as well as an increase of people with an aesthetic sense, recent years have seen the demand of well-designed facade. This research was conducted by analyzing the facade of two traditional residences in China: Tulou in Fujian Province and SiheiYuan in Beijing. The purpose of this paper is to examine the facade of each residence in terms of its formation and development and to consider a correlation between characteristics of those traditional residences and regional features where those houses are located. This study reveals that the traditional residences in China share many characteristics, but on the other hand each traditional residence is greatly influenced by regional feature. It is possible that those characteristics could have a great influence on the facade of modern apartment in China.departmental bulletin pape

    Earthquake resistance evaluation by a diagnosis program using spread-sheet software for reinforced concrete buildings

    application/pdfThis study is aimed at comparing earthquake resistance capacity evaluated by using diagnosis program with actual earthquake damage for existing reinforced concrete buildings, which were constructed before developing “New Earthquake Resistance Design Method” in 1981. An earthquake resistance diagnosis program was made using spreadsheet software (MS-Excel). The program has visually checking worksheets in order to explore input errors. The 3-story library building of Hiroshima Institute of Technology,which was damaged in the second-floor columns due to the 2001 Geiyo earthquake,was tried to check results of the first diagnosis and the second diagnosis. A commercial diagnosis program (Super Build) was also used to compare accuracy of both programs. The actual damage was suffered at the second-floor columns, however values of the seismic index of structure,Is,from the diagnosis program show that the first is the most severe floor. Torsion effects should be checked for more realistic earthquake resistance capacity of structures.departmental bulletin pape

    Improvement of Fluidity of Plastic Material in Injection Molding Assisted by Diode Laser

    application/pdfThe excessive cooling in the filling stage of injection molding stops flow of polymer melt and gives insufficient filling of material in to the mold. In order to enhance the fluidity of the material,it is desirable to prevent the decrease in the temperature of molten polymer. One solution is radiative heating of molten polymer by lasers passing through the mold wall. The authors adopted ad iode laser,which allows comprehensively inexpensive equipments of light source. In this study,an experimental test of molding of disk with laser irradiation was performed and a numerical simulation for analyzing the temperature profiles within the flow of polymer melt was also investigated. The results show that the fluidity of polymer melt by laser heating is improved and it is especially effective at high injection rate.departmental bulletin pape
