Distributed Loading System for Collaborative Seismic Performance Evaluation on Overall Buildings (Part1)Outline of Test System
application/pdfTada and Kuwahara proposed a scheme for Internet-based structural analysis in which many researchers worldwide can collaborate and unify their different programs and structural models. This paper first introduces the structural loading system of an exposed column-base. This loading system enables us to simulate the variation of rotational stiffness and bending moment carrying capacity under varying axial force. Hence, the technique of Internet-based structural analysis is used to perform the collaborated pseudo dynamic test on a building frame with an exposed column-base subjected to vertical and horizontal forces. The results show the simplicity of the collaboration producers, the stable transfer of information between programs and loading system, and the overall complicated resisting behavior of a canti-lever with semi-rigidly-connected column-bases.departmental bulletin pape
Intranet Based Energy Saving System
application/pdfElectrical power is a base resource that supports social economic activity, and its stable and efficient supply is indispensable for continued economic development. Our engineering-related university has about 4,500 students. The maximum-electric-power-consumption value in July 2004 was 1,895 kW, and the amount of electricity used was 759,000 kWh. By comparison with domestic use, this is equivalent to the amount which about 2,500 houses consume. In order to check the actual conditions of electrical power consumption in view of the matters discussed above, an “intramural electric power energy monitoring system” was developed. In this paper, we propose a prototype system of intranet-based power saving system.departmental bulletin pape
A study on the Distribution of Employees and Access to the Tram Stop.
application/pdfThe trams are operated in Hiroshima City. In addition, there is a plan to introduce another public traffic into Hiroshima City. The new kinds of traffic are an improvement of the existing tram, new establishment of the subway and the new traffic system. The evaluation elements that migut be valued when the existing public transportation was introduced must be the costs of transportation power and construction, management expense and speed. In that case, excellent ability of public transportation might not necessarily become convenient for the users. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the public traffic from the user's point of view. Not only the performance of public traffic but also it is shown here, and the performance is verified about the total as “Movement” including on foot. As for the result,if the transportation to the center of a city like Hiroshima City which will not be crossed in a short time and a lot of employment exist is assumed to be the first purpose, the condition of the current stops are supposed thought to be effective in the project plan that increases the rating speed of the train as it is.departmental bulletin pape
Shaking Table Experiment on Vibration Characteristics of Non-Compression Braced Frame
application/pdfThe authors proposed the brace with which strength, remained plastic deformation capacity and energy absorption capacity can be easily evaluated under seismic loading. Proposed brace consists of slender rod and tensile connected the end with tapered washer and wedg. The wedge slides between the washer and the stand so as to prevent the looseness of brace caused by to axial plastic deformation under repeated lateral loading. To improve the plastic deformation capacity of the brace, new tensile connected the end with the tapered washer and wedge are proposed. We made an experiment with the shaking table to confirm that mechanism of non-compression brace do function well in dynamic load. We produced one story one span frames to show performance of a brace and carried out an elasticity sine wave examination, a bullet plasticity sine wave examination and an earthquake wave examination. The results and conclusion obtained from the shaking table experiment are summarized as follows: 1)Even the comparatively big displacement amplitude resists effectively horizontal load without compression power to a brace. 2) When a wedge enters, story shear hardness of a brace rises. 3) While tension acts on a brace for sinusoidal of high frequency of 12Hz, the wedge is not pushed back and grinds crackle in an original course. And mechanism of non-compression brace functions normally.departmental bulletin pape
Information Organizing and Retrieval Interface using Geographical Map
application/pdfAccording to the progress of network technologies and the increase of the distributed information on the Internet, the knowledge management strategy has been required to be a primal performance on the wide-ranging business task field. Proper knowledge management system is required to be collected the knowledge and information according to the business task and, as the results, it should be used to create, manage, and make the right knowledge available to the right member people at the right time. So, a proper selection and gathering of the information enables us to create new knowledge. For the purpose of the proper and effective information retrieval, it is also needed to realize the navigational interface, which enables visual information retrieval using the image or drawing expression in addition to the related keyword assignment. Furthermore, visual interface use is expected to support that the user who has not some concrete retrieval key words, gets the objective information with ambiguous reference knowledge. This paper presents the information organizing and retrieval interface using geographical map, which enables us to share the knowledge among engineers in the cooperative work.departmental bulletin pape

Dynamics of liquid Hg measured by inelastic X-ray scattering
application/pdfRecent development of the inelastic X-ray scattering (IXS) technique using third-generation synchrotron facilities delivers us a wide opportunity for investigations of dynamic properties of materials. In this article, several advantages of the IXS method are explained by comparing to the corresponding neutron inelastic scattering. Intelligent techniques of IXS spectrometers at ESRF, APS, and SPring-8 are reviewed. Then our recent results on the phonon dynamics of a typical liquid metal, liquid Hg, are reported with several interesting anomalies of phonon dispersion relation and diffusion. Finally the future of this technique and its application are discussed.departmental bulletin pape
A study on the plan to utilize the public housing stock
application/pdfPublic housing has been established to provide decent and safe rental housing for the eligible low income families and the elderly. Presently, there are approximately 2.18 million houses managed by municipalities in Japan, public housing reproduction projects have been stagnant. The reasons are as follows: there are numerous houses that require rebuilding or renewal, economy is in recession etc. In consideration of the situation, the plan to utilize the public housing stock has been introduced and has been adopted by municipalities. And when making this plan, municipalities must create the flowchart how to utilize each public housing conforming themselves to conditions. This research surveyed the opinions of municipalities, and analyzed each municipality’s flowchart. As a result, this paper will contribute to better reproduction projects of public housing.departmental bulletin pape

Assessment for classification of ground between fill and cut using 3-D GIS for earthquake damage analysis
application/pdfThe damage to wooden houses caused by the 2001 Geiyo earthquake was surveyed at residential districts arround the western part of Hiroshima City; Koi-ue in Nishi-Ward,and Ajinadai in Hatukaichi City. Extensive damage of roof-tiles of wooden houses occurred on the fill ground more than the cut ground in an improved land. In this study, the assessment method is developed for classification of ground between fill and cut using 3-Dimensional Geographic Information Systems (3-D GIS) technique. TIN (Triangulated Irregular Network) and Overlay tools are employed against old and new 3-D geographical surfaces of residential districts in order to make classification of ground between fill and cut. Subsequently, the depth of fill or cut is calculated from cross-sectional information for 3-D surfaces. It is found that the depth of fill, where the damage of roof-tiles of wooden houses occurred, ranges between 5 to 15 meters.departmental bulletin pape
