Restoring Force Characteristics for H-Shaped Beam-to-Column Connection by Means of Non-Compression Knee-Braces

    Get PDF
application/pdfThis paper presents seismic strengthening performance of beam-to-column connections with non-compression knee-braces. H-columns used in either strong or weak axis and H beams were connected as either fixed or pinned joints. The following conclusions were obtained from loading tests: 1) Both stiffness and strength of the connections with the knee-braces become larger than without the knee-braces. 2) The restoring force characteristics of the connections with the knee-braces become spindle-shaped instead of slip-type. 3) The strength of pinned connections with the knee-braces increases over the maximum strength of the corresponding fixed connections, and so the non-compression knee-braces can be applicable as seismic strengthening members of damaged beam ends in an earthquake.departmental bulletin pape

The Relationship between Fill-Depths Based on GIS Estimation,Earthquake Damage and the Micro-Tremor Property of a Developed Hill Residential Area

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe 2001 Geiyo earthquake which measured 6.7 on the Richter Scale caused a lot of damage to the roof-tiles of wooden houses. This damage was more prevalent among houses in the fill part of the hillside than those of the cut part. The developed area is classified as either a fill part,or cut part, based on GIS Geographic information systems. The ratio of the horizontal spectrum to the vertical spectrum, known as H/V and based on the micro-tremor measurement of the ground, reaches a peak of approximately 2-4 Hz in the fill part. However,it has no predominant frequency on the cut part. It is probable that the damage done to houses with tiled roofs caused by the 2001 Geiyo earthquake is strongly linked to the predominant H/V frequencies found in the housing site.departmental bulletin pape

Dynamic Loading Effects on Restoring Force Characteristics of Steel Frames

    Get PDF
application/pdfDynamic and static loading tests of steel pure frames were carried out in order to investigate the restoring force characteristics of steel structures under earthquake loading. A model structure was composed of two columns,a rigid roof and a rigid base. Shaking table was used for the models for dynamic loading. The static loading test was conducted so that the specimen could trace history of relative story-displacement of the frame in the dynamic loading test. The load-carrying capacity of the frame under dynamic loading increased by 20% higher than that under static loading. In addition, the energy absorption under dynamic loading increased by 15% compared with that under static loading.departmental bulletin pape

A Study on the Service Level According to Public Transportation -A Case Study in Itsukaichi District-

    Get PDF
application/pdfPeople have to drive their own cars in the suburban area of a regional hub city, because the service level of the public transportation is lower than that of the central area of the city. However all people can not drive their private cars freely there. And the traffic service for private cars,is not satisfactory in transportation to children, students, senior citizens, handicapped persons and people who do not have their private cars or driver's license. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the service level of public transportation in Itsukaichi district of Hiroshima City, which is commuter town. We evaluated the service level of public transportation in Itsukaichi district the sight and quantitatively by using Arc View GIS and the model of an existing research,by the over all index that contains fare, time, frequency, transfer resistance and punctuality,in consideration of the performance of total as “Movement” including not only traffic performance but also on foot.departmental bulletin pape

Restoring Force Characteristics of Non-Slip-Type Exposed Column Base with Multi-Rows of Anchor Bolts

    Get PDF
application/pdfA non-slip-type exposed column base has been proposed by the authors, to improve slip phenomenon of an anchor-bolt-yield-type exposed column base by use of wedge device. Following advantages are obtained from usage of the wedge device. 1) No looseness at the column base occurs after anchor bolts yielding. 2) The column base can be designed as energy absorption damper in small earthquakes as well as huge ones. 3) The wedge device can be applicable for rehabilitation of conventional column bases because of easy installation in existing column bases. In this paper, the self-centering performance of the non-slip-type column base was examined by experiments on the column bases. The following conclusions were drawn. 1) The non-slip-type column base possesses the self-centering performance until the column base being in the elastic limitation of rotation. 2) The column base obtains the self-centering performance again, as the rotation returns the origin after increasing over the elastic limitation.departmental bulletin pape

Restoring Force Characteristics of Slip-Type Exposed Column Base with Multi-Rows of Anchor Bolts

    Get PDF
application/pdfAn anchor-bolt-yield-type exposed column base is generally used in steel buildings. The column base shows slip-type restoring force characteristics, that are of great advantage to residual deformation of the frames subjected to an earthquake. The cyclic behavior of the column base with multi-rows of anchor bolts has not been studied for reasons of complicated manipulations. In this paper, experiments on the column bases with multi-rows of anchor bolts were carried out and the experimental results were compared with analytical models. The following conclusions were drawn. 1) Whole types of the column bases show the slip-type restoring force characteristics. 2) The column bases with multi-rows of the anchor bolts show complicated behavior, especially, with the anchor bolts at a centroid of cross section of the column.departmental bulletin pape

Life Prolongation of Steel Building Using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic Plate (Part3) : Rehabilitation of Secondary Beam in Chemical Plany Frame

    Get PDF
application/pdfTo enhance the usable life of existing steel buildings,a strengthening method with bonding continuous fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) plates has been developed by authors. Deep corrosion was observed in a chemical plant frame bleached in chemical atmosphere for a long term. 40% lack of beam rhickness was confirmed in the frame. The frame is appointed inan explosionprotection area, and a constructer cannot use fire during rehabilitation and repair. Therefore a strengthening method with bonding Carbon FRP was adopted. In this paper the progress of rehabilitation by bonding carbon FRP plates are introduced. Also, this paper reports the results of bending tests conducted on secondary beams in chemical plant frame before and after rehabilitation using Carbon FRP plates.departmental bulletin pape

An Agent Based Distribution System Restoration Considering Distributed Generators

    Get PDF
application/pdfThis paper proposes a multi-agent approach to decentralized power system restoration for distribution system network considering distributed generators. The proposed method consists of several Feeder Agents (FAG) and Load Agents (LAG). LAG corresponds to the customer load, while FAG is developed to act as a manager for the decision process. From the simulation results, it can be seen that the proposed multi-agent system could reach the right solution by making use of only local information. This means that the proposed multi-agent restoration system is a promising approach to more large-scale distribution networks.departmental bulletin pape
