Mechanism on Rehabilitated RC Frame U sing Hysteretic Damper lnstalled in Beam Upper and Lower Space of Outer Steel Frame
application/pdfWe have proposed the rehabilitation system of RC frame using hysteretic damper installed in beam lower space. To make damper effective, it is desirerable to make the damper strong. The system has limitation of damper’s strength because shear strength of RC frame joint is very low in ordinary old building. To solve the difficulty, we propose the outer steel frame with the damper installed in beam lower and upper space. We performed the cyclic loading tests on scaled RC frame with the outer steel frame with dampers to show the availability of the present system. From these results, conclusions and remarks are drawn as follows. 1) Four hysteretic dampers yield within small story drift, so that the system absorbs the seismic energy effectively. 2) The system improves the shear strength of RC frame, so that we can install the stronger damper.departmental bulletin pape

A Study on Steel Structures with Self-Centering Performance
application/pdfA non-slip-type exposed column base has been proposed by the authors to improve slip phenomenon of an anchor-bolt-yield-type column base by use of wedge device. This column base has many advantages for earthquake resistant structures. Recently, self-centering function, that is, the mechanism of no end rotation of member in unloading after member yielding, has been proposed as seismic performance, reducing residual deformation of steel moment frames after an earthquake. In this paper, the self-centering performance of the non-slip-type column base is verified by consideration of restoring force characteristics. The function of non-slip-type column base can be applied to beam-to-column connections by consisting of end-plate beam, long bolts and the wedge devices. New structural system with such connections and non-slip-type column bases possesses the self-centering performance.departmental bulletin pape
Analysis Study on Bonding Characterstics between Continuous Fiber Reinforced Plastic Plate and Steel
application/pdfAging and deterioration of existing steel structures necessitates the development of simple and efficient rehabilitation techniques. Strengthening with bonded Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic plate has been rarely applied to steel structures, although it has often been applied to concrete structures. To enhance the usage life of existing steel buildings, a strengthening method with bonding Continuous fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) plates has been developed by authors. Bonding properties such as strength and stiffness are required to predict the fiexural rigidity and yield moment as well as the stresses induced in FRP plates of rehabilitated members. This paper reports the results of elastic-plastic analyses conducted on shear bond test specimen between FRP and steel. These results show bonding properties of adhesive and load carrying capacity of shear bond test specimen. An analytical method is also proposed that can predict bonding mechanism and strength of FRP plates.departmental bulletin pape
Convective Heat Transfer from Heat Transfer Surfaces in Reciprocating Motion
application/pdfAn experiment was conducted to investigate the heat transfer characteristics of surfaces in reciprocating motion. The test surfaces were flat plates having vertically brazed cylinders. Comparing the experimental data in reciprocating motion with those of forced convection, it was revealed that a bias Reynolds number exists, which may be due to the un-steady convection effect. The bias Reynolds number depends, within this experimental range, not on the moving speed but on the surface geometry. The heat transfer coefficients in reciprocating motion agreed well with those of forced convection using the equivalent Reynolds number, which consists of the ordinary Reynolds number and the bias Reynolds number.departmental bulletin pape
On the Approach of Experience Type Practice in the Department of Civil Engineering
application/pdfThe construction engineering practice starts a course at the first term of the second-year student. The purpose of this lecture is to arrange the lowest line of student's scholastic attainments,the reason is for the student to understand the mechanics system lecture the experiment practice since two annuals surely. We have three targets. First,the students are made to understand a rudimentary theory on the theory of structures. Secondly,the students experiment on the model of the soil and the beam so that the students may “touch" and understand physical properties. Thirdly,the students are made to acquire technological ideas and ability by understanding the thing and the mechanics that the report writes. We achieved the purpose and were able to arrange scholastic attainments because the student was able to study the mechanics system lecture and the experiment practice continuously roughly. Life Prolongation of Steel Building Using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic Plate (Part4) : Bending Force Rehabilitation of Secondary Beam with Slab

To enhance the usage life of existing steel buildings, a strengthening method with bonding continuous fiber reinforced plastic plates (FRP) and the analysis model who predicts flexural rigidity and a bending moment carrying capacity has been required. This paper reports the results of bending tests conducted on a Narrow H-shaped steel beam with slab before and after rehabilitation using CFRP plates. Some Trials on a Web-Based Education Support System

We have tried to develop Web-based systems which support educations for these several years. These systems are classified into two categories: one is“the lecture supporting systems" and the other is“the learning and examination systems". Mistakes of Bending Moment Diagram of Beams and the Measures for Understanding in Structural Mechanics

In the past three years,we have given the same test of structural mechanics to the third grade students,before an experiment of construction engineering is carried out. There are serious mistakes in the test solutions,although the students could solve the problems correctly in the first grade. We fear that they might learn the solutions for several types of problems in mechanics by heart.
