    A study on the Ceiling Composition in Relation to the Seating Positions of the Host and the Guests in a Tea Room.

    application/pdfIn a tea room, the locations of a toko (alcove), a temaeza (host's mat) and kyakuza(guests’ mats) have been defined by the seating positions of the host and the guests, required by the manners of the tea ceremony. In this paper, we examine the various relations between the ceiling composition and the seating positions of the participants at a tea ceremony, concerning the 38 extant tea rooms. In conclusion, the temaeza and the kyakuza have played an important part in the selection of ceiling composition indispensable to the articulation of the interior space; the concept or philosophy of tea ceremony of the host, a tea master as well as an artist-architect, can be expressed in many ways of ceiling composition, among which the composition with 3 types of ceiling and the temaeza under an ochitenjyou (dropped ceiling) is the most eloquent.departmental bulletin pape

    Basic Machining Characteristics of Super Heat Resistive Alloy lnconel 718

    application/pdfNi based heat resistive alloys such as Waspalloy, Nimonic or Inconel are very difficult-to-cut materials because of their low heat conductivity, highly adhesive characteristics or superior mechanical properties. Although great efforts have been made to improve their machining characteristics, they are yet remained as difficult-to-cut materials. In this report, basic machining characteristics of typical solution-treated-and-aged Inconel 718 are investigated for the reference of ordinal machine shop. Negative, positive and round cemented carbide K grade and some ceramic tools are tested and their tool wear and cutting forces are measured. Some of the obtained results prove clearly that they are very useful for the machining of heat resistive alloy.departmental bulletin pape

This paper reports one of the above systems,the Web-based examination system. There are many advantages in learning and examination using PC,compared to the conventional methods via books and paper texts. However,some problems such as authoring load and diversification of the test form and test security were pointed out.     Use of the Acoustic Grading Method as Nondestructive Inspection to Measure the Elastic Modulus of Timbers for Experimental Education in Engineering

    application/pdfThe quality assurance of architectural timbers becomes more important because the Building Standard Law was revised in 2000 and the House Quality Assurance Law was enforced. There are two indices to timber strength. One is “Young's modulus" as the index at an initial deformation,and the other is“ultimate strength" as the index of failure. Recently,the Young's modulus can be measured by the Acoustic Grading Method. This is one of the so-called nondestructive inspection methods,which is to measure the sound while beating the timber side,and detect predominant frequency using FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) analysis. The Young's modulus obtained by the Acoustic Grading Method is compared with the moduli detected by the axial compression and flexural failure tests of the timbers.departmental bulletin pape

    A Study of Trading Electricity in Microgrid

A microgrid is an energy system formed by the interconnection of small, modular generation (micro-turbines, fuel cells, PV, etc), with storage device (flywheels, energy capacitors and batteries) and controllable loads at low-voltage distribution systems. The aim of this study is to develop the method which gains the largest profit in trading electricity in the microgrid. Therefore, a practical application of the proposed trading electricity algorithm to a model system was tested on power system network.     On Rehabilitation of Steel Building Using Bonding Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic Plates

    application/pdfAging of existing steel buildings necessitate the development of simple and efficient rehabilitation technique. We have been developing a strengthening method with bonding Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic Plate (CFRP) to enhance the usage life of steel buildings. Coefficient of expansion of CFRP is one-tenth smaller than that of steel. The change of temperature during daytime and night amounts to 40℃ so that large thermal stress occurs in adhesive layer between CFRP and steel. Cyclic thermal stress causes degradation of the bonding strength. Further, CFRP and steel have electro-conductivity. Although the adhesive between CFRP and steel has non-electro-conductivity, intense rust (galvanic corrosion) may occur when CFRP partially touches steel member. The partial galvanic corrosion may deteriorate the bonding strength between CFRP and steel. In this study, Heat cycle tests on steel plate bonding CFRP are made to evaluate the durability of cyclic thermal stress. Also, galvanic corrosion tests under dry and wet cycle atmosphere using salt water are carried out. We show these basic data for infiuence of galvanic corrosion and cyclic thermal stress on bonding strength between CFRP and steel plate.departmental bulletin pape
