    Development of an Interactive Device Using Sensor Gloves

    application/pdfEven if the speech handicapped know human sign languages, it is impossible to communicate with a person who doesn’t know them. Therefore, to assist the speech handicapped, we have developed such a speech synthesis system as the texts can be provided by a pair of sensor gloves. The sensor gloves have ten binary outputs which indicate whether each finger is bending or not, and that digital code can be converted to the Roman alphabet. Our design strategy has been accomplished by the H3048F, one of the cheapest microprocessors available.     An Algorithm Visualization System for C Language Program

    application/pdfIt is important to understand the operation process of the algorithm when a program is studied and debugged. We can use a debugger for this purpose. However, it is not easy to understand the operation process of the algorithm intuitively, by getting numerical information obtained from the debugger. On the other hand, when we understand the algorithm from using diagram such as flowchart, it is difficult to grasp the states of variables. In this paper, we developed an all-purpose visualization system of algorithm to support the debugging and the study of beginner’s programming;we can easily visualize the operation process of the algorithm and grasp the states of variables. We proposed some devices to visualize easily the operation process of the algorithm:to display a tree-structure among functions,to indicate compactly the flowchart by a case, and to make a graph of the states of variables.departmental bulletin pape

    Earthquake-Resistance Improvement Using Strengthened Sub-Frame against Exterior Walls for a Conventional Wooden Framed House

    application/pdfThe improvement of earthquake-proof performance of wooden houses is one of the most important disaster prevention measures for urban area against earthquakes. The purpose of this research is to investigate the earthquake-proof performance of the inside sub-frame by using the polypropylene material processing as the strengthened exterior wall. The test results are as follows. (1) The wall area index of the proposed inside-frame shows about 0.5 at 1/120 rad of story-deformation angle. (2) The ultimate bearing force of the proposed inside-frame is over 2 or 3 times against the strength at 1/120 rad; therefore the sufficient safety ratio can be maintained. (3) The rupture of the proposed inside-frame occurred due to the breakage of the joint part fastened by screw nails between the inside-frame and the supporting stud.     二層構造非線形光ファイバアレイの光波結合ダイナミクス

    application/pdfWe investigate coupling dynamics between two optical fiber arrays by use of the discrete coupled wave equations. The calculations are performed with various optical excitation conditions, and by varying the number of coupled fibers between the two arrays and values of the nonlinear coefficients. The results show that when the one array is excited, an efficient power transfer between the two arrays is realized with appropriate coupling conditions. Furthermore, even when the two arrays are equally excited, the all optical power can be localized in one of the arrays by choosing the phase difference of the excited optical fields of the two arrays.     Restoring Force Characteristics of Steel Framed Structure Strengthened by Non-compression Brace

    application/pdfIn this paper, horizontal loading tests of rigid frames with braces attached by high-strength bolts were carried out in order to examine the applicability of the non-compression braces to rehabilitation of existing structures. The K-shaped braces as well as the X-shaped ones were employed to clarify the deformation behavior of strengthened frames and the cyclic characteristics of the frames showed spindle-shaped. The following conclusions were drawn from the experimental results. 1) No buckling phenomenon happens. 2) No slip phenomenon due to plastic deformation of the brace happens. 3) The restoring force characteristics show spindle-shaped curves.departmental bulletin pape

    Flow Boiling Heat Transfer of Tap Water in Micro-Channel

    application/pdfAn experiment was conducted to investigate heat transfer characteristics of tap water in micro-channels. The tested channels were rectangular channels with 12mm breadth. They were a straight channel and two curved channels having a curvature radius of 64mm and 32mm, and the channel height was changed from 1.0mmt to 3.0mm. The experimental results can be summarized as follows. 1) Heat transfer coefficient in a subcooled region increases rapidly with decreasing the degree of subcooling. 2) Heat transfer coefficient in a saturated region first decreases and then turns to increase. 3) Heat transfer coefficient in a saturated region increases with decreasing heat flux and increasing mass flux for all experimental conditions. 4) Heat transfer coefficient in a curved channel is smaller than that in a straight channel having the same channel height for narrower channels, but this tendency is reversed for higher channels. 5) Dryout occurs with smaller vapor quality with smaller channel height smaller curvature radius, smaller mass flux and larger heat flux.departmental bulletin pape

    Cyclic Loading Test on Angle Steel Brace with Bonding CFRP Plates

    application/pdfTo enhance the usage life of existing building a tensile force strengthening method with bonding carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) plate has been developed by the authors. To enhance the strength and deformation of steel structure member, a rehabilitation technique for cyclic force strengthening as well as tensile force strengthening. This paper reports the result of cyclic loading tests on an angle steel brace before and after rehabilitation using bonding CFRP plates.
