Collaborative Seismic Performance Evaluation of Steel Structure with Shear Panel Damper
application/pdfIn the previous paper, we improved a substructure online system for investigating the restoring force characteristics of exposed column-base. This substructure online system and interface of CSA ( Collaborative structural analysis ) forms a collaborative seismic performance evaluation system. This system enables collaboration among researchers by linking their programs and experimental systems through the Internet. As participants can shear data such as interactions between structural members, distribution of seismic loading and overall failure mode of building structures, it makes it very easy to investigate the seismic performance evaluation using the sophisticated knowledge of participants. Hence, we call it a collaborative seismic performance evaluation ( CSPE ). Also, the hysteretic damper is used to use the building frame in seismic area. In this paper, we evaluate the seismic performance of building frame with a shear panel dampers using this CSPE system. Investigation of Nondestructive Measuring Accuracy of the Elastic Modulus of Timbers Using the Tapping-Tone Method
application/pdfIn this study, the estimation accuracy of the elastic modulus of timbers by a tapping-tone method used as a nondestructive test was examined against the real elastic modulus by the destructive test, changing section size, specimen length and kind of the timbers named Douglas fir, Chamaecyparis obtusa and Cryptomeria japonica. The elastic modulus were measured by two different types of tapping-tone method: the longitudinal vibration method and the transverse vibration method. The conclusions are as follows: it is found that the transverse vibration method predicts remarkably well the elastic modulus by the destructive test, regardless of the section size and the length of the specimen. On the other hand, the longitudinal vibration method to the small-size specimen (specimen with 480 mm length) shows, in certain cases, wrong estimation against the elastic modulus of the destructive test.departmental bulletin pape
Warp Deformation Behavior in Chemical Curing Process ofViscoelastic Laminated Beam Composed of Epoxy Resin and Steel
application/pdfEpoxy resin is usually used as a encapsulation of IC chips for electronic parts. It is transformed
from liquid to solid by the chemical curing reaction,and then residual stresses and warp deformation
are generated in the electronic parts. In this report,the warp deformation behavior of laminated beam
caused by the chemical curing process of epoxy resin was examined from both sides of the experiment
and theory, which are the thermo-viscoelastic numerical analysis based on the linear viscoelasticity
theory and the Finite Element Analysis about the laminated beam consisting of epoxy resin and steel.
As a result, it was clarified that the result of thermo-viscoelastic numerical analysis of warp
deformation well accorded with the experimental values,and the warp deformation behavior could be
predicted by the thermo-viscoelastic numerical analysis with precision which is effedive in practical

3-Dimensional Analysis Model for Exposed Column-Base Considering Bi-Axial Bending Effect
application/pdfThis paper presents a three-dimensional structural model of an exposed column-base,which takes
account of bi-axial bending. The applicability of this model is confirmed by finite element analysis on
a canti-lever with exposed column-base subjected to bi-directional horizontal forces. The following
observations were made:
1) The model takes account of variation of rotational rigidity due to initial anchor bolt tensioning
and axial force of column-base.
2) The model adjusts the maximum bending moment capacity and rotational rigidity by changing the
line of action of the compressive force line and rigidity modification coefficient.

A Shared Dataspace Communication Framework for Data Acquisition System
application/pdfA shared dataspace communication framework for data acquisition system has been developed. The
framework helps us to develop the data acquisition system easily and efficiently. It has been developed
on the concept of shared dataspace using a repository. The repository has data and their index keys,
and it can be accessed with easy communication commands, PUT, GET, DELETE, NOTIFY and
LINK,by the component. The data are managed by the index key in the repository. The component
can access the data in the repository by specifying the key related to the data. The new communication
commands,NOTIFY and LINK,were also introduced in this framework for a management of the data
in the repository. The data acquisition system developer can develop the system easily and efficiently

Earthquake-Resistance Design Method for Non-Compression Brace on Energy Balance
application/pdfThe authors have proposed a non-compression brace converting a conventional brace by means of
a wedge device. The advantages of the braces are the following: 1) No buckling phenomenon
happens. 2) No slip phenomenon due to plastic deformation of the brace happens. 3) The restoring
force characteristics show spindle-shaped curves.
The non-compression braces are examined on the basis of the energy method.
The following conclusions are obtained from viewpoint of the energy method:
1) The non-compression brace is applicable as an energy absorption damper.
2) The energy absorption capacity of the brace is estimated easily.

Folk Rituals around the triangle region along the midstream of Chang Jiang River
application/pdfUp to now we have thought that ‘Kagura’is a religious ritual that relates to the soothing of gods.
But the author, through investigation of ‘Kagura’performances in the Chugoku region and close
observation of folk rituals along the Chang Jiang River in China,came to a different conclusion than
any preceding studies. He concludes that ‘Kagura’is actually a religious ritual which is not related
to the soothing of gods, but in fact dead souls or evil spirits.departmental bulletin pape
Impressive Colors as an Urban Image in Kyoto
application/pdfIn the course of “Theory of Urban Development”at Kyoto Seika University (second semester,
2007), the first lecture was given on the history of Kyoto and its changes. On this basis I then
assigned the students to sample a color item typical of Kyoto and make the report on it. To
accomplish their tasks, they required both fieldwork and the use of reference materials. Even for
students without any experience of writing reports,the topic was interesting,and I provided a model
for them and explained how they should make investigations.
After giving similar assignments for the past some years, I published three papers in the KSU
Journal based on statistical analyses of the reports submitted:“The Image of Kyoto Seika University:
Utilizing the Techniques of Kevin Lynch’s The Image of the City”(No.25), “Kitsch Design in
Kyoto: The Establishment of Architectural Kitsch”(No.27), “Stories in Which Kyoto Plays a
Leading Role: Looking for Kyoto in Literature”(No.29), and “A Taste of Kyoto: Experiencing
Kyoto’s Culture through Its Food”(No.32). Before the fifth group carried out their assignment I
showed them the published papers,which included the names of students from whose reports I cited,
and nearly all the students voluntarily submitted their own reports.
In choosing the present topic, I aimed to have the students sample Kyoto’s color culture for
themselves, become aware of the long history behind its flavors, and come in contact with traditions
unique to Kyoto. Of the 154 reports received,almost half discussed a landscape(the natural greens,
the stores and houses,the historical architectures),but most of the topics have something to do with
Kimono, lacquered Japanese ware, Kyoto ceramics, etc. The study confirmed the continuity of
cultural traditions unique to Kyoto with the presence of many unique local colors. Because it is
extracted it from the passage of time,Kyoto’s cuisine is closely attuned to the changing seasons,and
Kyoto has made a lot of period flavor colors which rise beyond the times. In conclusion, I suggest
that, as residents of Kyoto, by making it part of our everyday life to follow the custom of enjoying
a particular treat at a particular time while appreciating the changing of the seasons, we can help
preserve the heritage of these unique colors for the future.

An Experimenntal Study on the Exposed Column-Base with the Multi-Rows of Anchor Bolts under Constant Column Axial-Force
application/pdfAn anchor-bolt-yield-type column base shows slip-type restoring force characteristics. The column
base subjected to constant axial and cyclic horizontal forces shows more complicated characteristics.
An experimental study on the column bases under constant axial force and cyclic bending was carried
out. The following conclusions were obtained from the loading tests:
1) Three types of resistant mechanisms of the column base under constant axial force were classified
to evaluate the strength and the elastic rotational stiffness of the specimens.
2) In case of axial tension N=0.2Ny, the restoring force characteristics are the same curves as
non-axial force ones.
3) In case of axial tension N=0.5Ny, the restoring force characteristics of the column base were
obtained by combining all types of the resistant mechanisms.
4) In case of axial tension N=0.7Ny, the restoring force characteristics perfectly became elastoplastic

Theoretical and Experimental Examination of Warp Deformation Behavior of Viscoelastic-Two-Layer Laminated Body Caused by Thermal Load
application/pdfThe transient and residual warp deformation of viscoelastic two-layer-laminated body caused by
thermal load was examined by the experiment,the finite element analysis and the thermo-viscoelastic
analysis. The finite element analysis was analyzed in consideration of temperature dependency, and
the thermo-viscoelastic analysis was analyzed based on the linear viscoelasticity theory referring to
time and temperature dependency.
As a result, it was clarified that the residual warp deformation is influenced by the ratio of the
thickness of epoxy resin and steel material, and that the time and temperature dependency shuld be
considered in the analysis when the compotision material contains the polymeric one,and that the warp
deformation behavior could be predicted with precision in practical use by thermo-viscoelastic
