A DESIGN FORMULA OF SHEAR PANEL DAMPER : Part 1 Equivalent Shear Buckling Limit Deformation Angle

    Get PDF
application/pdfA shear-panel-damper, consists of a panel, surrounding four flanges and stiffeners, is used as an aseismic hysteretic damper for buildings in Japan. A crack easily grows in the shear-panel-damper when the panel shows shear buckling during cyclic loading under severe earthquake. The shear buckling can be detected only by checking the maximum-deformation- angle. For relatively thin panel, when width-to-thickness ratio is large, plastic deformation capacity of the damper can be evaluated by using the maximum-deformation-angle. On the contrary, when width-to-thickness ratio is relatively small, very low cycle fatigue life is essential for relatively thick panel to predict the usage limit of the damper because failure pattern change where crack grows the tow of welding between panel and flanges. Estimate expression of plastic deformation capacity for shear-thick-panel-damper, which has parameters as normalized width-to-thickness-ratio and deformation-angel was presented. To show the validity of the estimation expression, cyclic loading tests of shear-panel-damper were performed to verify the expression. Also clumped panels subjected to cyclic in-plane shear deformation were analyzed using geometrical and material non-linear F. E. M. analysis to check shear buckling of the panel. These results showed the validity and effectiveness of the expression.departmental bulletin pape

Resistance Mechanism of Shear Panel Damper under Bi-axial Shear Loading

    Get PDF
application/pdfShear panel steel damper (S.P.D.) are used as a hysteretic damper for building. Bracing and post type structure has adopted with the shear panel damper in Japan. Although post column with shear panel damper are subjected to bi-axial loading under severe earthquake, the restoring force characteristics of shear panel damper under biaxial loading are not clarified so far. Hence, we investigated the resistance mechanism of the damper under bi-axial shear loading. First, we introduced the shear stress distribution of panel and flange in S.P.D. to show resistance mechanism of S.P.D. under bi-axial shear loading. Secondary, elastic bi-axial loading tests were performed. to check the distribution Stiffness evaluation formula will be derived from the shear stress distribution.departmental bulletin pape

Non-parametric Modeling and Its Application on Real-life Data

    Get PDF
application/pdfSome non-parametric models (kernel, loess and spline) have been compared with different parametric models in order to judge their precision by measuring the proximity between the observed and the predicted values based on the data-sets on the pest incidence (measured in terms of the number of pests) in respect of two important crops, namely, brinjal and chilli, with a view to describing the pattern of the incidence of pests over the year based on weekly incidence data (28 weeks). The importance of such studies stems from the fact that the farmers need the specialized scientific information in the form of advisory services in respect of the pattern of pest incidence over the year in advance and creation of pest-models helps us to obtain such important information. This paper is devoted to generate pest incidence models in cases of brinjal and chilli crops. Such pieces of generated information assist the farmers in their planning and execution of the cultivation of the said crops over the year. It is revealed that the precision levels (as are obtained by calculating the actual values of the well-known R2 criterion) are much higher when the non-parametric models are applied on the data-sets considered under the purview of the paper, in comparison to other methods exploited to obtaining the above-said information.departmental bulletin pape

DEA cone ratio model based on a paired comparison

    Get PDF
application/pdfIn order to analyze the DEA results continuously, this paper proposed the DEA framework. A proposed framework consists of two following steps: (1) extracting subjectivity information based on a paired comparison, (2) extending the traditional DEA model. Since the proposed model is correcting the search direction, an analyst's intention is incorporated without taking out an execution impossible solution.conference pape

Patterns Depending on Students’ Achievement Degree on Programming Education

    Get PDF
application/pdfA web based programming learning support system is now planned to be developed aiming for the holistic improvement of programming technique. This software is for students with insufficient understanding, and aims to improve their technique by after class hour learning. Before the authors develop the software, this paper addresses to give the part of specification of the software. Especially as the first step, this paper examines what kind of students are no good at programming, and what needs to improve the understanding of the students. The authors consider that the trends and characteristics of students with low programming skill need to be shown for supporting their learning. The short exams were conducted in several times in lectures related with programming for the first and second grade students currently being held, and the results were examined depending on the achievement degree of students. From the analysis, the valuable speculation about students who are no good at programming was obtained.conference pape

    Get PDF
application/pdfA series of textbooks on basic physics has been published in our Institute. The staffs responsible for the physics education of freshmen have edited and revised these textbooks and used them for the respective lectures, exercises and experiments in basic physics. In order to notify the characters of the textbooks, our concepts for editing them are to be described in series. In the first report, the textbook used for the physics exercise entitled “Mechanics Workbook” is introduced. The aim of the textbook is to attain the linking education from high schools to our Institute.departmental bulletin pape

A Study concerning Special Needs Education or Exceptional Pupils and College Students Education in Japanese Schools and Colleges (No.2) : Theory and practice in Special Needs Education

    Get PDF
application/pdfIn the present day, special needs education has become more and more significant not also for children (school pupils) but also for young people (college students). Therefore in this paper, we reported about our daily teaching activities, especially, on pupils and college students having developmental disorders. Then we also some proposals in order to improve the special needs education. We would like to contribute to future special needs education in Japan by way of reporting our case study about it.departmental bulletin pape

Atomic structures of semiconducting and metallic glasses studied using anomalous x-ray scattering

    Get PDF
application/pdfIn order to explore local- and intermediate-range atomic structures on some semiconducting and metallic glasses, anomalous x-ray scattering (AXS) experiments were performed using an improved detecting system suitable for a third-generation synchrotron radiation facility, ESRF, Grenoble, France, and the obtained data were analyzed using reverse Monte Carlo (RMC) modeling to obtain partial structure factors and to construct three-dimensional atomic configurations of these glasses. Some examples of semiconducting and metallic glasses are demonstrated to show the feasibility of the combination of the AXS and RMC techniques.departmental bulletin pape

Large-scale Hardware Verification by Using Formal Method and Random Simulation Together

    Get PDF
application/pdfFormal verification is one of automated techniques to guarantee the correctness of hardware designs. The computational cost of formal verification, however, grows larger for a large-scale design, so that we cannot get the solution. In this paper, we propose a method to utilize intermediate data, which formal verification has generated, for a random simulation. Our method aims to avoid spoiling the computational cost for formal verification even if it does not terminate.conference pape

Prototype of Micro-Blog Based Interaction Support System and Its Improvement with E-Mail

    Get PDF
application/pdfThe Micro-blog based interaction support system the authors have developed is a Twitter clonal Web application, and it works as information transmission platform enhancing interactions and collaborative activity. All participants can post their comments and questions by the form of short message through the web browser on each own cell/smart phone or PC under unique handle name. The situation of discussion also keeps displaying in projector screen or lecturer’s own PC, so the lecturer can get to know the looks of students such as the depth of understanding and the difficulty level of the contents, and besides, students can easily cooperate with each other. The features of the proposal system are designed by reference to the advantages of some previous works on discussion mining and collaborative learning. In the previous works, the authors conducted some experiments to confirm whether the proposal system can generate opportunity for questions and comments to the speaker, and as the results, improvement of audience-to-audience communications was confirmed. However the experiments revealed some deficits of the proposal system, so this paper deals with the problems by using e-mail technology, and shows the detail of the system architecture.conference pape
